5 out of 5 stars Good product from good company.......2007-09-06

Printer received in excellent condition. Well packaged. Unit performed as advertised. No problems. Well satisfied.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Printer Ever!!.......2007-08-16

I absolutely detest this printer. The idea is nice, but the machine is horrible. The first one broke after 2 weeks and we got a warranty replacement. The warranty replacement has issues with the ink catridges sometimes not being read by the machine. It is very difficult to use, so confusing. And the online help is worthless. I will NEVER buy another Canon product. They used to be a good company, but no longer.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-08-12

Unreasonable ink consumption, regular messages of ink needs which prevent use until changes are made, and 3 minutes of settings required to make a copy of an 8 1/2 x 11 original onto plain paper make this an unacceptable product in my opinion. It produces an excellent photo, interestingly better from computer hard drive than directly from chip using extra cost XD to CF adapter. Will not function if one of the 2 black cartridges are low. I use another printer for routine printing from computer, and regret getting rid of my old printer which had copying capability when I purchased the MP500. Cannot recommend for anything except photos. Would not purchase again.

5 out of 5 stars good quality inkjet printer.......2007-07-26

I bought a refurbish MP500 that came surprisingly like new. The printer uses five ink cartridges which costed me the price of the refurb printer itself, which boggled my mind. But the generic inks are very cheap and that's why I bought it, but you have to recycle the computer chip from the original cartridges. I also bought a Cd Tray and followed the instruction to enable disc printing.

The first impression was that it is quite big, you will need some space for this one. I tried some to print some colorful pictures and it was pretty good, at least way better than my previous Canon MP360. Especially the quality on the printable discs, I'm quite thrilled with the disc coming out looking colorful and detailed.

So far all the functions work without problem. The scanning were alright, the software is smart enough to auto cut the left over parts. I thought the card readers were placed in an odd position and hard to access to. There is an extra cassette tray in the bottom, you can have paper in it and not have them in the usual back location, but useful photo papers or small cards as well. Since the printer has a lot of features, there are a lot of buttons and settings it may not be the most intuitive, probably preferred for personal use, rather than office use, no fax anyway.

Pro:
-Quite good inkjet print quality and works well overall.
-Can print photo.
-With some additional works, can print directly on discs.
-If you have flash cards, you can skip the computer since there is the card reader and lcd screen.
-Since it's big, provides a good stable surface for scanning.

Con:
-Big and bulky for some people.
-If you plan to use original inks they will be quite expensive.
-Some settings and buttons need to be figure out to perform more advance functions.
-Cards reader could be in a more accessible location.

2 out of 5 stars Lasted about 18 months for us........2007-05-27

I rather like this multifunction, and it prints, scans, and copies well. It does however chew up ink cartridges very quickly relative to our previous HP printer, and you cannot recycle/refill them. Ink costs will likely surprise you.

Another problem is poor software design. For example, when a color cartridge is low, you have to click a warning dialog even when printing a black and white document. Also, the default setting was to print documents in *reverse* order for some reason. It also won't let you print a document when one of the five ink tanks is deemed empty.

After about 16-18 months of average home use, it developed a problem where under the #5 cartridge a thick vertical black line came out, on the *reverse* side of the paper, bleeding through to the front. We tried replacing cartridges several times, then spent a couple of weeks fruitlessly interacting with their email support line (who seemed quite unable to perform support). We talked to a guy at Fry's Electronics about it, another Canon owner, who was fairly convinced it was a defective print head. We ordered one for $48.00, and of course it was not the problem. We've now got a gorgeous piece of junk on our hands, plus two print heads and, perhaps $200 of spare ink cartridges, too many of which were opened to try and solve the problem.

So in summary, I loved the mechanical design and functionality, tolerated the software quirks, and finally became disgusted with the reliability and customer support.

Advanced All-In-One Performance with 2.5" Color LCD Viewer. A one stop Print-Copy-Scan center. This amazing machine delivers an impressive resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi, for remarkable detail and clarity. How does it do it? Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 1,856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 1 picoliter. More nozzles + smaller droplets = smoother, virtually grain-free images. Further, our ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system - four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. You won't have to wait long to see your results; a beautiful photo lab quality 4"x 6" borderless photo takes approximately 51 seconds. Advanced performance doesn't stop there. 1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-08-10

I have had this printer for almost a year. It worked very well until it ran out of ink. For some reason trying to replace the second black cartridge will not accept it. That means the printer will not work. I paid a repairman close to $100 and he could not get the ink cartridge to go in either. Even though Cannon is his favorite printer he suggested to get rid of this printer and try a different brand.

    5 out of 5 stars Buy It!.......2007-02-04

I have owned many printers and scanners over the years and this one (for the price) beats all the others, hands down!

Some features to consider about this all-in-one:
    - Four color printing with individual color ink cartriges (black, magenta, cyan, yellow)

    - Two separate paper feed sources, so you can keep letter & legal in the printer at the same time and switch between them just by pressing a button

    - Two-page printing automatically prints on both sides of paper

    - VERY EASY to replace ink cartriges

    - Scans to image or Acrobat file format

    - Prints to paper edge for borderless photo printing

    - Outstanding photo quality. This was one of the 'top picks' by several reviewing organizations for an all-in-one printer, regardless of price

This is the first printer that I have been absolutely happy with. You will not regret buying this printer.

    5 out of 5 stars wow!.......2006-08-21

I had decided to replace my Dell printer since it seemed to have more issues than not, as well as the fact that I went through ink (which wasn't cheap) like there was no tomorrow. I researched the web seeking a decent printer for a decent price that would be more economical in terms of ink.

Alas, this printer popped up time and again.

I'm happy it did! This printer has all the bells and whistles, is easy to use, affordable, does a great job whether printing documents or photos, and is much more efficient at its use of ink!

5 out of 5 stars The best printer I have ever owned.......2006-08-03

I bought this printer from a local retail store. Due to the cheap price, I assumed that it would have average print quality, etc. You get what you pay for, right?

    Wrong!

*The quality of printed photos is amazing, assuming that you are using good quality paper.

*It is easy to setup and operate

*It has a cool little lcd screen that allows you to navigate through the printer settings and even preview pics that you want to print.

*You can plug your camera's memory card directly into the printer for easy access.

*It comes with some cool editing software, etc.

*It just looks so sleek and stylish.

...the list goes on and on. It's a great buy, especially if you get a good price on it. I told my dad about this printer and he wanted to try one out for size. He bought one for himself and uses it at his office. He has not had any problems either.

The other user, who posted a comment, must have gotten a lemon. Either that, or it was some type of user error (no offense intended)

1 out of 5 stars Made by the second little pig.......2006-08-02

I bought this printer in April after reading many positive reviews. It was easy to set up--even for a "technophobe" like me. I managed to get it to execute all its functions (text printing, photo printing, scanning and copying) without calling one of my children for help. Like any inkjet printer, it seems like I had to replenish the ink supply all too soon--but that goes with the territory.

Then, the other day, I tried to print something off the web and up comes this message on my computer screen, "Service error 6B10" I turned off the unit and disconnected the power cord as suggested by the manual but I kept getting that message. Then I called tech support (also suggested by the manual). After a mercifully short hold time of a minute or two, a pleasant technician had me verify that there was no paper jam and then told me that my unit would need servicing.

Since it was still under warranty, I could have Cannon ship me a refurbished model and I could ship them back my printer or I could take it to a computer repair shop and have them fix it at Cannon's expense. I chose the second option.

These printers have been out for less than a year and already Canon has a supply that have had to be "refurbished." This makes me think that this model has some real design flaws or, as I said to the tech support person, it's junk.

Finding the perfection of HDTV is an undeniable pleasure. The discovery of home theater is a revelation. Anchored around Onkyo's build quality and proprietary technologies - Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry - the groundwork is laid for powerful audio reproduction without the noise and distortion that limits other receivers. The TX-SR503 7.1-channel home theater receiver incorporates 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters for all 7.1 channels to preserve the quality of your audio, and it also offers HDTV-capable (50 MHz) component video switching to give you connectivity and versatility with the latest displays (with still enough options for those who haven't made the change). With superb functionality and ease of use, the TX-SR503 is perfectly suited for those looking to explore quality home theater in the HDTV environment, now and in the future.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Bad Experience Also.......2006-12-09

After getting this receiver hooked up and using it for about five hours, it suddenly caught a case of the dreaded 'automatic shutoff' disease. When your receiver does this--shuts off for no apparent reason everytime you turn it on, you're pretty much screwed. It is, apparently, a labor and tech intensive fix. In the process of discovering this I experienced the same customer service hell the other two customers below did. The most you might get out of this outfit is the address of a certified repairshop. Other than that, they are rude and completely useless. Onkyo receivers are great sounding, but on the downside--their north american customer service is non-existant. It's customer dis-service. The sound quality/price difference between Yamaha, Pioneer, and Onkyo isn't large enough to justify Onkyo's existance in the US market given their poor customer service. Buy a Pioner VSX 516 or 816 (or a Yamaha HTR 5930/5940) rather than this, or any other model of Onkyo.

1 out of 5 stars Customer service completely drops the ball.......2006-02-05

I have spent collectively 3 hours, perhaps more, trying to reach customer service and I can't get anyone. This is the WORST customer experience I have experienced at any point in the last ten years. I won't be buying an Onkyo product again. What is the point of making a decent product if no one from the company will bother dealing with the inevitable problems that arise? Onkyo needs to rethink how it does business.

4 out of 5 stars Great bargain for home theatre!.......2005-12-24

I have owned an NAD receiver for 2 years but because it had center channel problems I purchased the Onkyo sr503, which was actually cheaper than the NAD repair. The machine is a breeze to set up and user friendly. Be patient, put on a dvd you like and make fine adjustments for the speakers. There are more sound settings than you will ever need so just use the ones that sound best to your ears. You can slightly raise or lower the volume on all speakers independently until the sound is just right. While this receiver can never compare to the rich sound of an audiophile's high end stereo receiver, it does an excellent job for its price range. I enjoy the "ALL STEREO" and "ALL MONO" features, which will use all four (or six) of your speakers as main speakers. This is excellent for parties when you want the music spread evenly throughout a crowd of people. I've found it especially pleasant this Christmas to have holiday music playing quietly throughout the living room. By the way, I use Polk speakers which, like the Onkyo, deliver good sound at an affordable price.

My bottom line: this is an excellent home theatre receiver at an excellent price. I only omit one star because no product is perfect and you will surely find little things about the receiver you wish were different. But you could do a lot worse than the SR503 and spend a lot more money.

    3 out of 5 stars Nonexistent Support.......2005-12-12

Sure, my father has the TX-SR502 and 503, and it appears to hook up the rooms wall speakers, HDTV, DVD, CD, Tape, Satellite very well. But this feat is marred by their horrendous, and let me use CRAPPY support. Email support is "too busy to accept", so the "Submit" button is disabled. I called their non-800 number, was on hold for 2 hours, and never got through. Voice kept saying my call would be answered in 30 minutes for an hour. But that countdown only comes on after you've already waited an hour. Yes, I was able to hook up the wires fairly simply; it's easy to follow. The "listening mode" button enables the various speakers around the room, and is not too intuitive. "Stereo" means only half the speakers are on-air. You have to toggle through the non-intuitive listening modes to send audio through all the channels. But everything is connected. A VCR clock-challenged guy like me was able to hook it all up. But if you have a problem or question, good luck trying to get in contact with someone. You probably have to call your local service center, and have someone come out to look at it and pay them a fee, while it's under warranty. Because of their EXTREMELY POOR service, I personally will NEVER conisder an Onkyo product. You try waiting 2 hours to no avail, and go buy that product again. I'm no masochist.

    5 out of 5 stars Rich Sound, Middle-Class Price!.......2005-10-01

This is a great mid-level priced AV Receiver that has premium features.

Along with 7.1 Dolby Digital EX/DTS-ES Surround sound, there's HD Component switching. It has 3 Component(Y,Pb,Pr) inputs that let you switch between 3 High Definition/Progressive Scan video sources. I have my CATV(HD), DVD(PS), and XBOX connected via component video cables. The unit also has 1 Digital Coax and 3 Fiber Optic Audio inputs, so all three video sources can produce digital surround sound as well.

Since my living room is average sized, I'm only using 5.1 channels. My speakers are Polk Audio RM6005 satellites and PSW303 subwoofer.

TV shows broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound really good. During Yankees games on YES-HD, fan comments can be heard from the side speakers making you feel like you're at the game. The first DVD I played was Star Wars: The Empire Stikes Back-Widescreen. It's encoded in DD5.1 and it sounds incredible. The tie-fighters and x-wings sound like they're flying around the room. I'll never grow tire of this classic. Many XBOX games are also encoded in DD5.1. If you have the XBOX HD-AV adapter with a Fiber Optic Audio cable attached, these games sound great, too.

BTW, I have it in black and it perfectly matches my Syntax Olevia LT32HV 32" LCD TV. You won't be dissapointed with this receiver.
