Great Pictures.......2003-02-20

It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.

I acquired an S830D recently.

You don't need the auxiliary screen to print directly from the memory card slot.

To access the cropping capabilities, yes, you need a screen or a compatible camera, but not to print from a memory card. Inserting a memory card (and I've used both CompactFlash and SmartMedia from both Canon and Olympus cameras) causes the S830D to go into a mode that activates automatic print functions on the printer control board. You can print an index sheet of thumbnail images, print all images in a wide variety of multi-print-per-page formats, selected prints using the index and vary the print media and quality from plain paper to Photo Paper Pro.

I have been very happy with both the color and the contrast produced by the printer with no computer intervention.

As for the rest of the printer's features, photo lab quality, good ink economy, fast and quiet operation.

This is the best printer I have ever owned.

A great choice.......2003-01-14

... That said, I'm very happy with this printer. Other reviews, like the one on C|Net, have faulted the printer for mediocre text printing. I can't really address that complaint...have a laser printer for text and only use the S830 for printing photos and I'm very, very happy with how it performs that function. It's fast, I like being able to replace the ink cartridges separately, supports Exif if your digital camera outputs the encrypted data and the pictures are indistinguishable from those printed conventionally. It's the perfect color printer for my advanced amateur needs.

Other review has talked much about this printer. I only have few comments for those who don't know:
- First, the USB cable is not included. You have to buy the USB cable to install the software to re-align the print head, for example. The print head was factory set and produce beautiful print though
- Second, the little LCD screen is not included and cost 100 USD to purchase separately. You need it if you print photo directly from your memory card in the built in slot of the printer. Without the screen, you can't print from this slot.
- Third, there are "selected" Canon camera that support direct print with this printer. My ELPH S110 only works with the CP-10 or CP-100 photo printer, but not with this printer. What a pain!
- 4"x6" borderless paper is what you probably need as it give a nice borderless photo at ease. Printing direct on A4 or letter paper waste a lot of paper at the edge. You may as well cut the A4 to 4 pieces and print from the PC, which allow you to print, say, A6 borderless photo. Don't get bother with the perforated paper.
- The sample pack paper give the best result. I wonder if they sell it.
- Turn on the Image optimizer with Vivid photo option gives even better picture when printing direct.
- If you don't want the direct printing, or you always edit your photo first before printing, go for some other Canon printer that do not have direct printing, it will save you some big bucks.

My wife loves this printer, because she can work with it alone, without a PC. That's the point, after all, to have a direct printing option, right?

We bought this printer to go with the canon G2 we bought.Excellent choice.First I must say if you are considering buying it from anyone other than Amazon[.com],DON'T.I have dealt with Amazon[.com] for years and they are the best at what they do,no one comes close.The printer is so easy to setup,not like some of are other printers.We are using Window XP,it went like a breeze.in lees than 30 minutes I was printing pictures.... I am still learning all the features,but the quality of the pictuers is as good if not better than any other.. And it is fast fast,printed 2 4x6 pictures in less than 4 minutes,I have found that you do need to buy quality paper.I used the Canon 4x6 bordless paper first until I ran out, then I switched to another brand,big mistake.Use the right paper and you to will be amazed.

This TV rocks! It is very large. IT is really flat so it eliminates pretty mutch of the glare on the screen.If you want to buy a good tv this is the one for you.

too small.......2000-04-26

ive had this TV for about 6 months now, and the only thing iregret about it is not getting the 36"! I choose this TV over thev-series wega tv simply because its color,(and it cost a few $$$ less)it had a much better color contrast than the wega, whites were white instead of light brown. I have, however, noticed a few proformance flaws. the geometry of the screen is a little off in the corners ,but the only time i really notice it is when i have test patterns on screen(this is possably due to a weak power supply). The other problem is the brightness of the set, its hard to get a perfect balance of brightness while still keeping blacks black. Other than that . . . no other non HDTV television at any price range can compete with the superflat!

Major Disappointment.......2000-04-25

I recently purchased this Panasonic SuperFlat to replace anolder - but superb - 27" Sony Trinitron with a largerscreen. After setup and several days of attempting to adjust and balance the color, I found the Panasonic color system to be significantly inferior to the Sony Trinitron color system. The Panasonic colors are supersaturated. The reds are unusually muddy, the blues and greens very noisy, and the flesh tones annoyingly artificial. I also found the resolution (sharpness) to be poor compared to Sony. I would highly recommend seeing a demonstration of this set in action before purchasing. On the positive side, Amazon.com was amazingly cooperative and helpful in allowing me to return this set and exhange it for a 32" Sony Wega, which I learned the hard way is more than worth the substantially higher cost. Thank you Amazon for such great assistance, understanding, and service.

One of the best flatscreen TV's I have seen. An excellent picture combined with outstanding audio provides a great entertainment system. The additional toys (PIP etc) help liven up those times when there is really nothing worth watching.

This TV delivers high-quality home entertainment. I've seen the rest and bought the best. The super-flat black screen accentuates colors and contrasts better than the more expensive Sonys. When used in conjunction with DVD and a home theater you will know why I am so enthusiastic.

PRO's - if you write software the proper way - not like the MS SQL crap with all the registry and DLL stuff attached to run it , you can actually create and run application on here with multiple users and it works great. No need for a Server, Server Licenses, SQL licenses and all that jazz.

CONs - once during an update of the drivers i did lose the drive and had to restore.

THis is much faster than a NAS drive that i also tested. Seemed like the NAS was substantially slower on my applications testing..

disappointing.......2007-03-25

I don't know what to think about their product right now. I purchased a 160 gig version in an older box type that didn't have the on/off switch. It was working excellent! I then purchased a 250 gig version with the on/off switch. So far no problems with the newer one but the older one has just crashed after many many problems. I used it for a couple years and then started to have problems left and right. It was working good until I upgraded to the latest driver then it wouldn't work with two computers, but the newest driver fixed that. At times it would freeze up and I'd have to unplug it and remount it to get it to work. Everytime I would try to back it up to the new netdisk I'd get error messages. Stupid me kept all my pictures, movies, home videos, tax and financial records, and mp3's on it. Then one day....it stopped recognizing it so I installed it in my computer and it said I had to reformat it. I contacted tech support and they said that I could send it in to see if they could fix it. No way not with all those irreplaceable files. I recovered what I could with my erroneous backups and am now trying to see if I can recover the rest without paying over $100 dollars. This was supposed to be my backup, but you have to backup your backup!! I don't think I'm going to buy another one and am reluctant to try another network attached drive.

Terrible.......2007-01-07

I bought one of these about two years ago and could never get it to work with more than one computer at a time. Eventually I just used it with one computer...moved years worth of photo files to it to free up space on my laptop. Then I didn't use it for quite a while. Just got a new laptop, new router to plug the disk into, and decided to recover my files. Downloaded the latest driver, went through re-registering the thing...out of about 20 tries, maybe 3 times it indicated it was mounted. But when I tried to open the disk it would get disconnected. Finally hooked it up via USB just to see if I could copy my files and now it shows up as an unformatted disk. Ximeta web site is wholly unhelpful. Guess I'll be taking it to a data recovery specialist...will never buy Ximeta anything again.

Power switch problems too.......2006-08-18

Have the same problems with the power switch crapping out. Lost over 400gigs of photos. Can not recommend.

Good Idea bad workmanship.......2006-05-20

I had purchased an 80gb version and within two months the power switch became very 'touchy'. that is not wanting to stay on. Then the rear AC adaptor plug was also loose, while pulling out the plug and reinserting I got an arc and a small puff of smoke came out. I emailed their support and they asked that I send it in and see if they could salvage the hard drive. Ok I admit that I became impatient at this point and decided to get a second one from office depot. I opened both cases and swapped the internal hard drives thinking that is was only the power connection. I know not the best idea, but I was desperate for the information I stored on it. After adding the power to the second one it also shorted out, and both models are useless. I think the second part of the story is my fault, but defiantly not the first part. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone that needs a reliable storage device.
