Nice picture quality, nice zoom. It would also be nice if this camcorder functioned half of the time. Does "remove cassette" mean anything to you?
My advice: Never buy Canon. I've used GL1's and GL2's that have also had this problem.

Great Video Camera!.......2007-05-10

I bought this camera more than a year ago, but I was updating some reviews when I realized I never wrote one for this product. Well, I just have to say that it's a wonderful camera that shoots high quality film. I do some video editing as a hobby, and I am happy to have the Mini-DV's available for transfer to my PC. If you are going to do any editing, always get Mini-DV, it'll make your life much easier. The only complaint I have is shooting under low light situations where the picture becomes pixelated and could use improvement. All in all, a great camera at a great price!

Great camcorder: highly recommended!.......2007-02-16

This really is a great camcorder that I have been using for more than a year now. I have not seen any problems so far. I has excellent video quality. It is quite handy and easy to carry. Also, unlike some, I do not hear a playback noise. I also used to have Canon ZR500 and ZR600, but I can say that this one is better than those. I totaly recommend Canon ZR300.

International travellers please consider this........2006-12-27

I had this for a good 11 months despite the fact that it had audio noise while playback, that was a good entry level camcorder. I had to return this because it started giving me mild electric shock, while charging the unit in the countries that have 220v spec. I used adapters and convertors that take me from US system to international systems. I took this camcorder with me and travelled outside of the United States. And interestingly it was not giving any electric shock while charging in US after my return. So if you are a world traveller then please consider this.

I planned to use this drive as additional network storage but it has two flaws that are showstoppers for me.

The first is that because it uses linux as it's operating system it makes the modification date and the creation date the same. So you lose the original creation date whenever you copy a file to the drive.

The second is an annoyance. Whenever you lose power and then power is restored the drive remains off. You have to manual push the power button on the front of the device. I often use my computer remotely and have been unable to access the drive when on the road until I can get back and push the power button.

This drive features a linux-based fileserver that can be accessed from multiple computers on the network. The speed is good, and it's very easy to setup via a web-based configuration menu.

Good things really do come in small boxes, like the tidy and modestly priced DVDRV30S (silver) DVD player from Panasonic.

While measuring a standard 17 inches wide, the DVDRV30S stands just 3.25 inches high, making this model a much easier fit than most for crowded equipment racks or TV stands.

Despite its diminutive proportions, this DVD player boasts exemplary image and sound reproduction along with a host of extras. Pictures are delivered via component video as well as S-Video and composite jacks. First-rate performance of Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby ProLogic, and PCM/stereo sound tracks is achieved via an optical digital output and single pair of conventional RCA jacks, plus a surprising subwoofer jack.

A long list of desirable extra features includes several innovations we've never come upon before. We think you'll appreciate how quickly play begins when you load a DVD into this machine's motorized tray--picture and sound arrive in as little as five to seven seconds. In other players, the norm for disc initializing/startup is closer to 10 seconds. (CD play starts slower in this machine, with an average 11-second kickoff for the first song.)

Impatient types will also appreciate the scanning at up to 100x normal speed, which renders surprisingly clear pictures on the screen. If you're not in quite such a hurry, double speed--the slowest of the five fast-scan modes--is accompanied by an intelligible soundtrack. (This trick play works only in the fast-forward direction and can be disabled.)

For late-night home theater viewing, when you don't want to disturb sleepers, the DVDRV30S also offers a dialogue enhancement feature. Designed so that intelligibility is not lost when the system is playing at a very low overall volume, this circuit jacks up the relative volume level of just the center channel.

Been hankering for a bit more rumble in the cinematic jungle than your stereo TV's mostly midrange speakers can provide? The DVDRV30S offers another cool sound feature--a separate output jack for delivering otherwise "lost" low-frequency soundtrack information to a self-powered subwoofer. Because bass signals are nondirectional, low-level information extracted from both left and right channels is mixed by the player into one output channel, so only one subwoofer needs to be used.

Other neat Panasonic touches address the mating of this player to a stereo TV. The Advanced Virtual Surround Sound circuit works remarkably well, expanding the imaging from a two-speaker setup. By tricking the ear with precise time delay and phase-shifting cues, it creates the impression of sound coming from the listener's sides as well as the front when fed a Dolby Digital sound track. For best results with virtual surround, sit precisely centered between the two speakers at a distance equal to four times the width from speaker to speaker.

Player ergonomics are thoughtfully executed. The front panel is clean and attractive, befitting those slimline dimensions. Likewise, the remote is small and easily gripped, with buttons that are logically arranged and that offer a good feel. Unfortunately, the buttons aren't backlit. The other side of keeping button clutter to a minimum is that many program play functions and customizable features are accessible and adjustable only onscreen. That job's done here in short order with an onscreen Windows-like tool bar display (with drop-downs) that runs across the top of the screen. Our fave is a neat slide-rule graphic that pinpoints the percentage of a program already viewed as well as the proportion yet to be viewed.

The only place we think Panasonic has cut corners is in the jack pack. There's only one set of audio outs, with no coaxial digital out and no headphone jack. However, if you can "suffer" through these minor shortcomings, you'll find satisfaction galore in the DVDRV30S.

This was a reconditioned dvd player. Advertisement is false when it says new. It plays fine, does not play both through TV and dvd at same tome.

I purchase this product on line though Amazon. Com, they advertise this product to be NEW, so I could not beat the price they sold it for, we'll when I got the product, it was used, it did not have the remote controller in it, and it did not work. Of course I am sending it back to Tiger Products, they told me that it was used, I think that is false advertizing, people should really check out the company before they buy product from them on line.

the service was very quick. when i received the dvd player there was no battery and the dvd player was refurbished. the item was a gift so i had to return it. the return transaction was very quick and i was pleased with the service. when i reread the item description there was no mention of a battery or that it was refurbished. i have dealt with tigerdirect. ca before and not had a problem.

I received my refurbished unit from Tigerdirect 3 days ago and so far the unit has performed flawlessly! It arrived with all oem cables, remote, charger and even an original owner's manual. I don't often purchase refurbished products but since I was in the market for a DVD player and didn't want to spend $250-$350........why not take a gamble!!! The only people who win the lottery are the ones that actually play!!! Jackpot!!! I got a great 10" player at a price no new 10" player could be purchased......no scratches or dents, all oem parts, manual, 1yr warranty card(not worth the paper it's printed on, 4 sure). I also picked up a nice Targus case to cuddle this little puppy and tote some DVD's as well. Don't expect superlative sound from the built in speakers but this can be said of all players in this category.....a pair of decent headphones are the way to go. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD555 phones that are simply superb!!!! This is one refurb purchase I'm glad I made and I'm not looking for the other shoe to drop either!!! I figure it was repaired to better than new condition when it got refurbished. I'm a happy camper after 3 days of ownership.......Okay, that's not nice.......I can almost hear you snickering!!! :-)
