Great Camera with Huge LCD Monitor.......2007-01-08

I spent countless hours reading about compact cameras, and chose this one as it has a HUGE LCD screen; 2.7 inches, which is just fantastic. Other than that, it is laid out very logically and super easy to use. The buttons are a bit small, but the trade-off for such a large lcd screen is well worth it. It recyles very quickly; takes good photos, and I like the cradle and rechargeable lithium battery as well. Mine is refurbished and cost under $140!!! It is light enuf to hang from your neck with a lanyard, too. I am very very pleased.

Great Camera, durable and slim.......2006-12-22

I love the size, the pictures and the functions. Also it turned out to be quiet durable. We actually dropped this camera while on vacation and it still works like new.

Docking cradle stops working.......2006-08-26

I was fine with this camera until the docking cradle stopped working, essentially rendering the camera useless once the charge stopped. This conveniently happened 3 weeks before my baby is due, leaving me without a digital camera at a pretty important time. Casio customer service was NOT helpful - even though this appears to be a documented problem with this particular camera, I was still going to be forced to either shell out my own money for a new base (even though the camera is still under warranty) - or package the whole thing and send it off to California. Obviously not a great option because who knows how long it would be before the camera gets back to me in working order? I had an Olympus before we bought the Casio and after this experience we are going to purchase a new camera - one that does NOT come with a cradle (and not a Casio). If the customer service had been better we may not have come to this decision, but I don't want to be dependent on a company that has no flexibility whatsoever in their way of dealing with problems. My advice is to buy a camera that does not rely on a docking station... fewer parts that can break! Even though I was "lucky" mine quit while under warranty, I have seem other reviews online where it broke post-warranty and supposedly people had to pay $200 to fix it - more than the camera is worth at that point.

Best Digital Camera Ever.......2006-08-17

I purchased this camera about a year ago, prior to a trip to London. I'd had a Canon Powershot previously. This camera outdid itself! I didn't have to charge the battery during my four-day trip to London, taking over 500 pictures. The screen size is amazing, though difficult to see when outside and it's at all bright. The camera is very user friendly, easy to set up and so easy to use. Since then, several people have ditched their old digital cameras to buy one of these.

The zoom is great, and I love that it tells you when you're switching from optical to digital zoom.

Super small & compact with great pics!.......2006-08-11

I bought this camera refirbished to take with me on vacation. After searching online for almost 2 months, this was the camera that kept popping up that had all the features that I was looking for at a price that I could afford. It has gone to Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Sandusky, Ohio and it has performed wonderful! It survived the heat and sand of the beach, and the heat and whatnot of the roller coasters at Cedar Point amusement park. The videos are great and the sound is amazing...Colors are great and very very clear! And I absolutely adore all the features it has to offer! The retro and black and whites are awesome, as well as the rest of the shot options...I got a great one of some fireworks! I love this camera, it is so easy to use, takes great pics, and is worth the money!

I am not a computer afficianado by any means, however I would like to say this monitor is simply outstanding. I've had several different brands over the years, and several different kinds at work as well, but this one takes the cake. The picture is crisp and clear, the colors are vibrant and stand out beautifully, and the resolution and refresh rates are outstanding! Years back I had issues with another Magnavox monitor, as it never seemed to do anything it was supposed to, this one however is nothing short of fantastic!
If you're looking for a good monitor at an affordable price, this would be the one!

Not a good choice.......2007-03-08

This is not the best way to get started in astronomy. To their credit, the marketers have avoided the exaggerated magnification claims that go with so many low-end scopes. Still, it is a low-end scope; for star clusters, galaxies, and nebulae, 10x50 binoculars will show you as much and be far easier to use.

The low power eyepiece is fairly useful, the higher power less so, and don't even think of using the barlow. The maximum useful magnification for a 60mm scope is about 120-140x, assuming the objective lens is of good quality. When you use the barlow, you exceed that limit and the increased image size is more than offset by breakdown.

The finder is useless, smaller than the bare minimum size of 6x30. Finding anything but the moon will be time consuming and frustrating.

Due to the small aperture (diameter of main lens), what you can expect to see in this scope is rather limited. Some star clusters will be dimly visible, but galaxies and nebulae will be barely--if at all--visible.

In a way, it is hard to fault Meade for making and marketing this scope. Their upper-tier instruments are quite good, but the big money appears to be made on mass market toys like this. In one sense the sale of these scopes subsidizes their good models. Just make sure, gentle reader, to stay away from the toys.

Using an astronomical telescope is not like playing an MP3 file and but rather like playing a guitar. It is a learned skill. And you must do a lot of homework before you buy a telescope. Buying without prior experience is like buying a car without knowing anything about driving. If you want to see the wonders of the sky, contact your local astronomy club and attend one of their star parties. The members love sharing their hobby and can set you straight as to how to get started. The best way is to learn the sky with the unaided eye and 10x50 binoculars (decent ones are available on Amazon), then graduate to something along the lines of a 150-200mm (6-8") Dobsonian, which can be found on Amazon starting under $290.

Poor Starter Scope.......2005-08-19

This scope is not a good starter scope for anyone interested in astronomy. Here's why:

1. The objective is too small, only 60 mm, 2.36 inches, so it is too small to bring in the light necessary for even a beginning look at the universe. I suppose it is adequate for the moon, but that is it. The planets will appear as very small disks. One will be able to see Saturn's rings, but the image will be very small. Forget it for deep sky objects, clusters, galaxies, etc.

2. The mount is an altazimuth, which will not follow the celestial object in the sky. The earth is rotating, and anyone focusing on a star or moon will quickly find the object drifting out of the field of vision. A better mount is an equatorial mount which makes it much easier to track objects.

3. The 4mm eyepiece is too powerful for this scope. The observer will find it hard to look through (very small eye opening), and will in most cases cause blurred images. The 20 mm eyepiece is the only functional eyepiece. The barlow is a 3x, which again is too poweerful for this scope.

4. The mount will vibrate when touched, which will cause the image in the eyepiece to "shiver", which is very frustrating.

Even for the low price, don't be enticed by this scope; it has too many flaws. Save your money for a larger scope with a better mount.
