A Great Camera.......2002-10-20

I've had my Casio for just over 2 years. It is extremely easy to use and with the hard drive, I mindlessly shoot shots at the highest resolution (2048x1536)knowing that storage is no issue. Having the HD has changed the way I shoot photos since with "no storage issues" I take multiple photos per topic and decide later on my computer which ones I'll use and delete the rest. Accessing photos with the USB port is as simple as plugging in the USB cable and double clicking the "drive E:" icon that appears in My Computer. Although the Casio software is ok it is not as effective as some of the commercial software that is available. After trying a few packages I've settled in on using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and Irfanview (which is free) to edit my photos. I've printed 8x10 photos on my Epson ink jet printer with Photo paper and the results are superb. A high resolution, poster size photos can be printed. Since day one, I've been using Kodak rechargeable Ni-MH batteries and battery life has not been an issue at all. The 3x optical zoom I use extensively and I've never used the digital zoom. An excellent camera that I highly recommend.

We have used this camera on several three week or longer trips, carrying extra rechargable batteries and using a bigger storage chip. We get up to 1,000 photos, sometimes things get a little slow after 800, who cares!

Weddings, camping, Grand Canyon, Penobscot River: the camera is flexible from macro flower shots to large vistas.

I have owned the Casio QV 3000EX for over 2 years and have found the setup and use of the product extremely easy. The 340 MEG drive enables you to take many pictures between downloads. The option to insert rechargeable batteries and off the shelf batteries is another benefit. I use the camera often and highly recommend it over the others I have seen.

I don't know what the guy who wrote the review that said that this system is like dog regurgitation was on, but this is definately not a dog's projectile vomit. its bass is quite good if you are looking for a sweet system for your dorm, and its probably very good for some 15 years old who wants to show off for his friends. overall, this system is the living end for anyone who wants to add on to their current system.

Ussually I am very fond of KLH pieces, but this one has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Going from my other KLH set to this one is like going from candy to eating what the dog left behind. Well I guess they aren't that bad.

Short life.......2007-09-04

My previous Sony DVD drive lasted only 6 months with very light use. Sony replaced it with a DRU-800A under warranty, and the DRU-800A was much better - it lasted all of 9 months. Good thing I saved my 2001 Creative CD drive on the shelf. If you insist on buying a Sony drive, make sure that you buy a spare - you'll need it.

Good drive, but DVD write not working after one and half years........2007-06-06

It's a good drive. I have used it to burn a lot of CD and DVDs. But after only one and half year, it suddenly died on writing DVD. Everytime I tried to write DVD, it gives me the information "Power calibration error". I haven't found a solution yet. However, CD writing is good. So it is not totally dead.

Cut and Paste.......2006-07-14

Cut and paste Mr. Peikert's experience into this space. I went through an almost identical experience. The drive functioned for me for about 1 month; I burned maybe four DVDs with it. Same problem with being able to contact tech support. Jump through stupid hoops even though you know the hardware is faulty. Jeez...... my blood is starting to boil all over just thinking about dealing with these idiots. I unfortunately I have not gotten to the point of getting an RMA. I am still waiting for another tech support response. Last thing: don't even think about misplacing your driver software. Unlike every other manufacturer in the world, Sony does not make its device drivers readily available for download. If you misplace your drivers, you have to BUY another CD-rom and wait for it to come in the mail..... ridiculous. I should have known better after having problems with the last Sony piece of hardware I bought (a PDA) and getting the same run around then. Never again Sony... you STINK!

As with another reviewer, my drive was working fine and I was very happy with it -- for a couple of months. Then one day, when burning a CD, it just conked out -- and stopped recognizing almost all media (save for a couple of store-bought audio CDs, which it played with too many skips and delays to be useful). The drive would try to spin up, but would just grind and skip and spin irregularly.

I don't normally mind an occassional lemon product, if the problem is corrected properly and without hassle -- but the treatment from customer so-called "support" I received was infuriating. First, Sony hides its phone number on its support website (I couldn't find it at all), making you use email or a "live chat" site that was unavailable. The responses I received from email support, which I waited over 2 days to receive, were so devoid of content as to be useless: "go back to the last known good configuration" and "we do not support your operating system." This was all despite the fact that I clearly told them that the drive was physically failing to spin up whenever I inserted a disc, and was only recognizing certain audio CDs.

When I did finally find a phone support number, it was equally unhelpful. Despite the fact that I had already done all the simple diagnostics and was describing obviously faulty hardware, they made me jump through all their stupid hoops before helping me with anything (as if I was trying to run some scam on them -- yes, I'd love to pay for shipping to trade in my perfectly good drive and wait a couple weeks for an exact duplicate!). Eventually I cajoled the tech into granting me an RMA. The emailed instructions on how to return the product were condescending and threatening -- "don't do this, this or this, or we will retract your RMA!"

In short, Sony may make fine hardware, but it must get its act together on the technical support front. I have serious doubts about whether I will ever buy another computer component from Sony again.
