ordered this hard drive in march, sent it back in april for replacement, got another, computer would not recognize it, sent that back also on april 6. still waiting for refund!!!!!amazon has recieved my returned items, but still has not issued my requested refund.

Cavalry 160 GB HD.......2007-04-26

I got this HD in yesterday to back up my MP3 player so I did not have to load up my internal HD on my computer.
Product works just as described so far, plug in the USB cable turn it on an the computer recognizes it right away.
The HD itself makes no noise, very quite. It is also a nice size and does not take up any room at all.
The unit does get a tad on the warm side when on for extended times but it is not all that bad.
My only gripe at the moment is I don't understand how the stupid side stand is supposed to be mounted to the HD itself.

If I run into problems in the future I will update my review but so far so good.

At the time of purchase, this was one of the best values I could find. The LED (which indicates whether it's idle or working green/red), however went dead after a year. Still, I give it four stars because the only thing I can compare it to is a Western Digital external hard drive I have that is unreliable (that's why I bought the AcomData).

DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT.......2007-02-03

i bought this a few months ago,
pretty expensive but i thought it would be nice cuz of all its features. it stopped working, it tooke me 35 minutes to get someone on the phone and they said tech support was unavailable. I decided to remove the sleeve to see if there was a way of reseting the button. i did not intend to open it but as soon as i pulled on the sleeve, the drive open and after 10 minutes of removing the whole sleeve i found a sticker saying the warranty was void if it was opened. i didnt open it, it fell open. and i called again and said it was my fault because the sleeve was not meant to be removed and the sticker used to be on the outside --- on their old model. so yeah, dont buy from this company, this is a cheap product that will get you bad results. an easy waste of money and time.

160GB hard drive: when formated comes out to 153GB as hard drives are rated in 1000MB= 1GB but all computers go by 1024MB= 1GB so overall space on the hard drive is reduced to 153GB

The hard drive is very quiet and you can barely hear it (you only notice it when it's loading)

The case of the drive acts as a heatsink so DON'T stack it. the hard drive already gets hot enough (having it seated vertically causes more heat than horizontally)

Problems: The light on the front of it (1 plastic dome with 2 high output LED lights)
The light is extremely bright (I covered the light on mine with some electrical tape with 2 pinholes poked through it)

The drive has a raw uncached read speed of 31 MB/s and a write speed of 26 MB/s

inside of the external enclosure is a Hitachi brand hard drive.

the external enclosure isint 100% sealed, it has 1 small vent in the back and 1 vent in the front which is hidden behind the front panel the front panel leaves about a 3mm space away from the front vent.

overall, everything is solid and quality.

I just received the hard drive. It is completely silent, sleek looking, and mounts consistently on my iMac G5. The only thing I don't like is the blue light on it is REALLY bright and goes bazerk when it is being accessed. Maybe that's more of a personality issue than a tech issue. But it is definitely a good fit for my Mac.

Simple to use........2006-08-30

I bought this hard drive to store music, movies, etc. I've had it almost two weeks, and here are my impressions so far:

Pros: Easy to hook up, plug and play for XP, the stand that comes with it is very sturdy, the hard drive itself feels solid, simple design.

Cons: Blue LED on the front is to bright, usable space on the drive only reads as 150 GB, the power brick that comes with the drive is fairly large.

Overall, this is a good hard drive for the money. Besides a few design quirks it has, I'd recomend this drive to anyone looking for a inexpensive external HD.

Great Notebook, LCD Needs Work.......2005-08-13

Well I think the title says it all, this machine works great its fast although I have the 30GB HD running at 5400 I think, its still fast.

I have been using Laps for the last 4 yrs. This is the most sturdy one I have used and the keyboard is the best I have experienced. the fingerprint reader is so cool, takes a little getting used to but its great. Oh, and the "air bag" for the HD is a great touch. My Toshiba has been around the world with me still works great but this baby looks like a keeper.

Now for the bad news, IBM (Levono) WHat's with this crappy LCD, I mean you build the best laptop in the world (not considering the display) and dump this crappy display on it, thats just wrong. Buyers, if you are willing to put up with a less than sharp display then this is a great buy. If not, then look elsewhere.

I have had my Storix 20G drive for over 6 months now and it has performed flawlessly. I even dropped it once from a couple of feet and it was fine. It is fast. It is lightweight. It is compact (it will fit in your shirt pocket). And the price is really good.

Great Back-up Solution.......2003-06-06

I bought the Storix after nearly losing all the data on my office PC. Plugged it in, XP immediately recognized it as a drive. I started dragging and dropping files onto it. Total installation time-less than a minute. USB 2.0 is a huge improvement, this thing is quick! I keep it in my glove compartment and back-up my home and office computers to it every Friday. It fits in my pocket and doesn't require a power source other than the USB cable. Slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes. Highly reccommended as a convenient back-up solution.

Disappointed.......2003-05-31

I purchased this drive to use with WinXP, Win98, and MAC computers. The Storix worked on all three for a short period and then FROZE.
Here's the full story:

MAC OS9: The drivers loaded fine on the MAC but eventually the Storix hard drive stopped working.

Windows 98: The power was switched on and at first the driver loaded fine, then my mouse and keyboard (both USB) froze. I was using a USB hub for this machine, which did not have enough power for the Storix (make sure you read the specs from their company website). So I switched to the USB outlet on the computer. The drive letter appeared and the mouse and keyboard returned. I then tried copying some files to the drive. The screen turned blue and displayed "Read Write error.. ..unsaved files will be lost.. press any key to continue". Back in Windows, the drive letter disappeared and an alert told me the Storix drive has been disconnected. Then a Window alert popped up: "Windows has detected new hardware", then "Installing drivers for Toshiba..." Again I manually selected the drivers (saved from the Storix website), finished the installation only to see a window saying device drivers "are not installed".

Windows XP: The driver was not "digitally signed" by Microsoft who warns that you could be putting your computer at risk. Windows "detetected new hardware" and proceeded to load a "Toshiba" driver (as far as I know this is not a Toshiba product). I manually installed the Storix driver, but WindowsXP kept re-detecting the device. Meanwhile, alerts kept popping up telling me there was a problem with the device. And finally a window stated "the drive letter is no longer associated with any hardware...." or something along those lines. The Storix hard drive stopped working after that - no matter how many times I turned the power on and off or plugged it in.

I have two other USB drives from different companies and they work flawlessly. I had high hopes for the Storix and it's possible that the hard drive was just defective - but I don't really know because Storix never responded to my two emails to their support area.

Nice solid performer.......2003-05-09

Bought this drive to ferry files between home and work. Drive is solidly constructed, though weighs only 5 oz. and is smaller than my PDA. Writes/reads files on my USB2.0 home system 10 times faster than my USB1.1 office system -- really worth getting a USB2.0 card. Gets its power through USB cables and, as it comes with two cables, I have one at work and one at home -- I only need to transport drive. Comes with a nice, tight-fitting leather slip-cover. Very happy with this purchase.
