The Citizen CD-140 Portable CD Player with AM/FM Radio is stylish and offers a substantial set of features for the price. With user-friendly functions and a wallet-friendly price, we found much to praise and little to complain about.
Features
For a device that plays CDs and allows for radio listening, the CD-140's controls were surprisingly simple. The large, clear CD/radio display makes it easy to view track or station information at a glance.
Citizen has equipped the CD-140 with a single-click button to activate the Electronic Shock Protection (ESP) feature. With ESP enabled, the CD-140 has a 15-second, semiconductor memory that creates a no-skip data buffer. When the unit is subjected to a shock or jar during play, the CD-140 continues without interruption. The CD-140 also receives remarkably clear AM/FM radio reception and has memory presets that can store up to five AM and five FM stations.
Sound Quality
The power and sound quality of the CD-140 was impressive. Included with the unit is a pair of stock headphones that delivered clear sound, even when the volume was turned up to over two-thirds strength. Above this power, the sound quality was slightly distorted. However, with a headphone upgrade, the CD-140 could take your portable listening experience to an even higher level.
Battery Life and Connectivity
After a full day of testing the CD-140 on two AA batteries (not included), we noticed no change in the battery strength. The CD-140 also has the capacity to recharge nickel-cadmium batteries. With a 'Line Out' that can connect the unit to a CD burner, amplifier, or other compatible component, the CD-140 could enhance your home system unit with minimal investment.

Real audiophile sound from a portable.......2005-11-20
Sure, MP3/WMAs are hot these days, and can produce more than satisfactory sound. But a great CD player connected to a hifi can still top them. So what to do for portable music?
The Citizen CD-140 comes the closest to true audiophile sound I have found in a portable. It has a stronger amp than any other portable, too, so you do not need to turn it up to full volume, and shouldn't. But this means you will get the dynamic range from loud transients in the music, and sound without distortion at normal volumes. It also means it can pour out an unusual amount of bass, and can go quite deep.
It also has a line out that bypasses the volume control. Hook it up to a hifi and you will get sound that will beat many DVD players from the analog out for CDs. Frankly, the sound is suprisingly similar to my high end Sony CD players, leading me to wonder if they put the old Sony DAC in this portable.
There is also a surprisingly sensitive, clear AM/FM tuner. And there is a trickle charger circuit for NiMH batteries, but no auto shut off. And the tuner presets lose memory when the batteries run out. Also, there is no hold button. But the buttons are fairly stiff, and I have not had a problem with it turning on or off in my backpack. Oddly, the radio on off switch is on the bottom.
So what's the catch? It is the ESP anti skip circuit. Like many CD players, it adds distortion because of compression. On many players you don't notice it cause the sound is so mediocre to begin with, but on the CD-140 the sound is so clear that the distortion is also clear. On many recordings you might not notice it, but on a trumpet solo it becomes obvious.
The solution is to turn off the ESP, or ASP on the Citizen CD-230. Then you get audiophile sound. You can walk around some without it skipping too bad, but jogging, etc. is out without the ESP. Sorry. But with ESP on, this baby simply does not skip. The nearly identical CD-230 has about 60 sec. memory, in case you exercise on a pogo stick.
It comes with an AC adapter, so add some amplified speakers and you have a desktop stereo.
And yes, it is the same Citizen as the watch company. I checked the website.
I have had mine for more six months, and have not had the slightest problems with them, despite the ocassional short drop. My prefered headphones are the Koss PortaPro, or other Koss with titanium drivers. They give you lots of bass.

I bought this CD player for my step-daughter for Christmas and since it is still only July we have yet to open or play it. It seems like a good machine, in the same packaging as it would be at a retail store but at a great price on Amazon.

The sound system is very good,bass adds more sonic to the audio, it has nice AM / FM but not good in catching the signals..

After my name-brand cd player broke down after just six months of use, I decided that it would probably be best to look for something cheaper so I wouldn't feel bad if it broke down after six months.
I bought this Citizen cd player after I noticed its very low price and many features.
Pros:
*It has a radio in it (with presets). Whenever you're not feeling any of your cds you can always rely on the radio.
*Bass Boost switch. It's always good to have more bass.
*AC Adaptor & built-in charger. If you're out of batteries you get an AC Adaptor which I think is awesome. The built-in charger is for your rechargeable batteries which I think is also awesome.
Cons:
*This thing eats up batteries. I suggest you get some rechargeable batteries or use the AC adaptor when you can.
*The headphones that come with this cd player aren't top-notch. I suggest you get some better ones with this cd player.
*It's kinda big and heavy compared to the other cd players in the market. But I guess it's because of the radio.
Overall, I wouldn't turn this cd player down because of the cons. Even if it might last six months, I think it's worth it if you can find it anywhere brand new for under 13 dollars.

Some pros and cons.......2006-01-29
I've had several of these drives, and they work well. But if you carry it in your pocket with your keys, it will soon look like crap as the silver paint comes off. On one of mine, the write-protect switch became intermittent, and finally wouldn't allow the drive to be written to. The LED should be on the end so that it can be seen regardless of the PC's socket orientation. Finally, if you use the key ring to secure it to a belt loop or something, if the two parts become separated, all you're left with is the cap!

I am a teacher and I bought this drive to use to take files back and forth between my home computer and the three classrooms that I teach in. The biggest problem that I have with it is due to it's physical size. I have to move all of the computers that I plug it in so that I can plug it in a USB port on the back. It doesn't fit in many ports on the front because of it's fat body.
Otherwise I have had very few problems with this drive. I lost all of the information contained one it one time, but as with any type of media, you always want to have your data backed up in at least two places, so I was able to recover it and only lost 6 or 7 files.
On the super plus side, I accidently left it in my pants pocket one day and my wife washed the pants before I could find it. Well, surprised to say... it is still working over 2 months later!!! So it's a very hardy little drive.
Flimsy design.......2005-01-31
I am very dissapointed with this product. After just one week the key ring loop broke and I could no longer keep it one my keychain. A few weeks later all the data on it was lost and I still cannot figure out why. After saving a couple of papers on it I tried to open and print my papers and got a message saying that the disk was not formatted and I have never been able to retrieve the data.

This is the worst product you can buy because you will lose it soon after you put it in your key chain. The cap is made of cheap plastic that will break extremely easily. I lost mine 2 weeks after I bought it - What a bunch of cheap engineers, it's as if they designed to be lost - sad thing I will never buy a memorex product - they should stick to CDs!

The XRT series of Uninterruptible power supplies are based on an advanced true sinewave power system that filters and protects the electronic equipment from all types of power line problems. The various models provide from 600 VA to 2000 VA of power for voltage ranges of 120 VAC, 208 VAC and 240 VAC single phase 60 Hz. units, and 220 VAC through 240 VAC 50 Hz. units. At all power levels and voltage ranges the load is protected against AC line spikes, surges, dropouts, brownouts and blackouts. All 60 Hertz models include electrical isolation from the power line to the AC load. During operation, all of the critical parameters are continuously monitored. The parameters may be monitored at the UPS with an LED display on the XRT600, or with a sophisticated LCD display that contains 32 characters on the XRT1000 and larger units. In all models the communications port can be used with the Minuteman Sentry or PowerMon software to report all of the critical parameters as well as controlling the UPS's functions via remote control. Built in is the provision for a remote master Output Power OFF switch so that a user-supplied power down switch or relay can immediately shut off the output power. The XRT series of UPS's are "Line-Interactive". That is, during normal operation from the AC line, the line AC is passed through an isolation transformer and filtering system that provides the maximum efficiency, safety and reliability

Poor Quality at best.......2003-04-25
Having tried this Panasonic model, I found it to be of the poorest quality and not worth the price. Better off getting a TV and VCR seperately.
Panasonic's in general have suffered a major downturn in quality and a person should look to other manufacturers, especially if looking for a combo unit.
Not a very good unit.......2002-10-04
I owned this particular unit for about six months and was pretty satisfied with the performance of it, until a tape became stuck in the VCR. Manufacturer's warranty only covered labor for 90 days...
...Apparently it had a defective carrier and this was a pretty common and expensive problem. Warranty would cover the part but not labor - needless to say it is cheaper to buy another VCR.
The VCR's are pretty low end on all of these Panasonic units (and probably other brands too). At least the TV still works.
If I were to purchase a new unit I would not recommend the TV/VCR combos. You are probably better off buying individual components - since VCR's are so cheap now anyway...
