The Basics
- Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is very large in size compared to other budge-conscious, family-oriented desktop PCs. It provides a good size for a wide range of software applications and a generously sized digital audio library as well as room enough for editing digital home video.
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3500+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.2 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2200 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
- Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (PC3200) is enough to get you started, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. This desktop has a very good 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB).
- CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the SR1720NX's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200 IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It delivers up to 128 MB of video RAM shared with the system RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. Too much junk software installed........2006-12-06
This machine comes bogged down with junk games and trialware that makes it run like a snail. It takes hours to remove all of this stuff, and then you have to run a registry cleaner/optimizer to get decent performance.
It comes with no recovery disks, and I was never able to get the Compaq
utility that allows you one CD backup to work. You can get a set of recovery disks from Compaq for $22.95, but these will restore the machine to the junked up condition that it was shipped. I've contacted both MS and Compaq in the hopes of buying a simple XP install disk. Not available!!
It seems pretty sound hardware wise, except for having the loudest fan I've ever heard on a new PC.
Better than Dell.......2006-10-06
My Dell computer died so I ordered another one ($1,200) from Dell but delivery was in several weeks and I realized I could not be without a computer that long so I went shopping for something cheap that would carry me over and I ended up with a SR1720NX. After using both I now find I much prefer the Presario. I have not used the double side DVD record feature yet but it is nice to have and the LightScribe feature is fabulous. I am so satisfied with the Presario that Dell has seen the last of my money. I am hard of hearing and the Dell is just not loud enough but the Presario knocks my head off with its volume. It is also a good bit smaller than my Dell which is nice. The only thing bad about the Presario is that it did not come with enough memory but I have ordered more. I even like the keyboard better on the Presario; it has a lot more features and seems more rugged. Next time I need a new computer it will be Compaq/HP

Great Concept, Great Implementation.......2004-05-28
I recently started commuting on the bus, and decided it would be handy to have a portable radio that also plays MP3s. After a bit of shopping around I discovered the MSI Mega Stick.
This thing is amazing. About the size of a pack of gum, it not only has an excellent FM tuner, it'll store and play about 3 CDs worth of music files too. It couldn't be easier to load them -- the Mega Stick has a USB jack on one end which you simply plug into your computer. It is then recognized as a "removable hard drive" -- simply move the files you want to the Stick and away you go.
The earbuds sound great too, in a pretty unique around-the-neck yoke which keeps the whole thing comfortable.
Runs on a single AAA battery. No moving parts so it seems to run many, many hours on a battery. I'm still waiting for my replacement battery to die -- the one it came with (who knows how old it was?) lasted about a week of intense use. Another good thing, removing and replacing the battery didn't cause anything to be lost.
In all, an excellently designed product. I'm totally happy with it.

Tripod - Value vs. Robustness?.......2007-05-16
I have an expensive SLR digital camera, including a long lens and I had need of a reliable tripod designed for a heavier camera but one that did not cost a fortune. I use a tripod in my studio and also on location.
Choosing an unseen tripod off the Internet is a challenge since one needs to touch, feel, use the device to determine whether it will do the job. Fortunately I was able to evaluate the QSX-9500 in a Ritz Camera display at a local department store. I would have bought it there except only the display model was available and it was missing some items- box, bag, extra camera mount.
I read one other review that convinced me to go forward and I'm delighted with the results. Rugged, stable, lots of height, wide stance, extra camera attachment platform - this was an excellent purchase.
Worth more than the price.......2007-03-25
I bought this tripod to replace a general tripod that my grandfather had used ages ago. I love virtually every feature this tripod has.
The maximum height that this tripod can reach is amazing. It can reach over 6 feet in height. It has two extendable leg portions on each leg, as well as an extendable head. There are bars to keep all three legs an equal distance apart from the center pole, which helps it stay level. On the head, there are two level-bubbles. One is on the base part of the head that doesn't move, and the other is on the movable portion of the head next to where your camera will stay.
The head also features a removable dock (mine came with a second one as well). It's perfect for the person who needs to hurry on to something else.
The only semi-negative aspects are: the weight, the panning handle. This is not the most lightweight model out there, but it comes with a carrying case so it's not as lumbersome. This is also not the heaviest tripod by far. And my issue with the panning handle is that when you need to use it, it gets in the way of using the camera.
But all in all, I'm so glad that I bought this. I will continue buying Quantaray products.
Worth looking for.......2005-04-03
I have 2 of these, and I searched all of the local stores to find them (I had to buy from two separate stores to get 2). It can get high enough to see over a crowd. Though not a true fluid head, it has a very good feel to tilting and panning. I love using it and will buy another.
