I'm impressed.......2004-06-20

I bought tnis to replace an HP4L that had served me well for over 12 years. Since I have found that the more recent consumer level HP's are not up to the build quality of the older models, I shopped around for other brands. This Samsung was highly rated by most users. The thing certainly looks sturdy, and the build quality appears to be excellent. The print quality is superb, and everything works perfectly, including the duplexer. I followed the suggestion in the manual to use the drivers from the included cd, rather than the defaults from Win2K. I really like the fact that the main media tray takes a full ream of paper, while the secondary input takes 100 sheets. I also like the fact that I can load cardstock for booklet covers in the auxillary feeder, and instruct the printer to print the first page from there, and subsequent pages from the main tray. Pretty slick for an under $400 printer! Overall, I'm quite impressed.

As an update, after a year and half of use, I am still impressed with this machine

I cannot explain the experiences of the reader from Austin, TX. I purchased my ML-2150 8 months ago because I was going through reams (literally) of paper for doctoral research and badly needed duplex capability. After 8 months, I just saw the first low toner signal. The first several months were in Hawaii and the remainder in Albuquerque, spanning extremes of humidity and temperature. It has not jammed once. Performance has been flawless. Speed is more than adequate for a heavy home user or small workgroup. I've had three HPs and will will not have another. Long ago, HP had an excellent support program, now you must pay quite a bit just to get a call through to say you can't get a new HP up and running. The new HPs are not as dependable or sturdy as the old III, IV and V models. Bottom line, I can't believe I got such an excellent duplexing printer from Samsung for $460.

Seems awesome, BUT hold on!.......2004-04-21

It's great if you don't print much. Very quick & quiet. But the toner is twice as expense as my Brother 1250 printer. My Brother & my Samsung were printing side by side 2000 sheets. The Samsung jammed way too many times (50). The Brother 1250 jammed only a few times. The Brother toner cost less and lasted just as long. The Brother stops printing when low on toner. The samsung keeps printing faint copies and wasting paper. The duplex feature is great for a once and a while duplex operation. It's a lot of paper moving for anything over a couple of pages. My Brother 1250 & My Samsung blow away my HP Laserjet. The Laserjet is old but never made into the second cartridge before Goodwill got it. HP didn't even stand behind it. The said they would sell me the repair kit. Brother is a good printer.

All around great printer.......2003-10-08

I have worked with a lot of printers over the years. Most printer companies make their money these days from consumables so most know that getting the printer into your office is the best thing they can do; thus the margins on printers are pretty low. Since laser printers are now coming into the personal printer price range (lowest end ~$180), I decided to purchase another printer for my office. I currently own a color laser printer that fits my need (Lexmark network 600x600). I looked at the new low-mid range HP's (don't like the new paper loaders and parts waiting to break on toner reload). I also taked to a tech at one of the stores and found out that the largest number of new printers being fixed were the new HP's. I thought about the Brothers laser printer (odd 2400x600 print format and every store I went, the machines seemed to have toner cleanness issues; every one had toner smudges). The Samsung seemed the best (classic style, 1200x1200 output, REAL direct duplex printing, sturdy feel, wireless and wired Ethernet expandability; 250 paper feeder, easy access envelope/single feeder). Color may be tempting, but trust me, you will save far more in toner with a plain old black and white. If you are running a business here are the reasons NOT to buy a color laser printer:

1) Toner costs
2) Every website you/your employees feel the need to print out will be printed in color eating up even more toner.
3) If you are not giving your presentations directly off of a computer; it's time to get with the 21st century and invest in a projector.
4) No matter how many times you think "With color, I'll be able to print most of my literature myself saving tones of money" you're marketing department(s) will still run to the bulk print houses.

Sure $800 is tempting for an entry level color printer, but really I rarely find a need to print color. If you are tempted to buy a color printer so that you can print pictures, look at these facts:

1) Most digital cameras these days (3-5 mega pixels) outpace most color laser printer outputs
2) It is cheaper (and better quality) to use Ofoto, Kinko's or some other place that will print out your best photos on high gloss at high resolutions.
3) For $800 you can print out 800 high quality 8x11 photos at a dollar a page.

Great Printer with a Price to Match.......2003-07-05

The Samsung ML-2150 laser printer gives a lot of features at a great price. Since I do a lot of document printing that only needs to be black & white I didn't need a more expensive laser color printer. Many of the features such print speed, paper capacity, and duplex (printing on both sides) would cost much more with other major brands. I am using this printer for home but could easily be seen in a small/medium office environment. Compare this printer features with other printers to see the value.

Some good, some bad..........2003-10-08

The Good: We've had our 201 for two years now, and have been happy with the video performance and features. The still cam is weak, but with the specs on it, it's more of a convenience than something one would want to depend on. Perfectly appropriate for the price at the time we bought it. The bad: The hand strap attach point broke off, and the GE extended warranty won't cover what they consider a non-functional part. There are 4 strap attach points, 3 metal, one plastic, and that's the one that let go. Without the hand strap, you'd have to hold the camera with both hands to use it. The case is very thin, and no other physical attachment exists internally. I also found a report of someone buying 8 PV51 cameras (similar to this one), and three of them broke in the exact same place as mine. Still waiting to hear from Panasonic, but I'm betting since it's out of warranty I'm out of luck. And I'm going to cancel my worthless GE warranty policy as well.

Great camcorder @ great price........2003-05-23

Update to previous reviews. The driver for win2000 or winXP is available NOW on panasonic website. With Firewire, WinXP actually detected it and it's plug and play.

I have used this camera for more than 2 years. I LOVE it.

1. There's no gap between clips. Canon ZR shows blue screen on playback every time you hit the pause button when recording - REALLY annoying. This one just stitch the clips together nicely.
2. Transfer to computer with firewire or USB really simple, easy to use. TIPS: you can get firewire card with cable for less than $20 now.
3. Handling is excellent - nice grip, light weight.
4. Long battery life. I was planning to buy a spare and found out no need for it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The battery life needs more power. Panasonic has yet to come out with a driver for XP. The still images are compared to a PHD camera (push here dummy). This is a low end model. As far as video goes....i love it. I have had nothing but fun and thrills. If you can get it for...cheaper than list.... it really is a good deal. I would suggest holding out though

Great Camera for a Low End Model.......2001-12-22

I've used the camera for about three months. It is everything I expected. I wanted a lightweight, small, easy to use camera with the ability to take still photos. The video picture quality is very good. The stills are pretty good considering this is a low end model.
I use Windows ME and the software provided is very, very good and easy to use. It would have been nice to be able to plug in a better mike but you can't. Also I'm left-handed and like most cameras for us, the buttons are a little hard to use.

Overall I don't think you will go wrong buying this camera. If you have Windows XP I would contact Panansonic to see if there are upgrades for the software.
