Wide Compatibility
For music files, the A2 can handle MP3, WMA, Egg Vorbis, FLAC (free lossless audio codec), and WAV (which provides the ability to configure the sound with a 5-band equalizer). BBE sound technology is included to aid in restoring the lost harmonics of digital music to its original clear sound. On the video side, it's compatible with AVI, Windows Media, ASF, and MPEG-4 file formats and DivX 3.11/4/5, XviD, and WMV9 video codecs. Movie file formats that are not supported at first try are easily viewable after a simple conversion using the included JetAudio Basic VX software. You can record video directly from external AV devices (TV, VCR, camcorder)--just connect the A2 with included AV cable and start recording. Video will be recorded in MPEG-4 up to a 640 x 480-pixel resolution at 30 frames per second.
Recording Capability
The A2 also allows professional-level voice recordings through its built-in high-fidelity microphone and direct encoding through a line-in cable. You can record important lectures or directly transmit sounds from CD players or other audio devices with the line-in cable and save them in your A2 in MP3 (encoded up to 192 Kbps). The FM tuner has 25 station presets, and has immediate and scheduled recording capabilities.
Image Viewing, Storage
The 4-inch widescreen displays provides a comfortable view of text files and image files (JPG, PNG, BMP). Images can be viewed in slide show mode or be magnified for detailed view. You can also use the A2 as a USB mass storage device to store and transfer your most important files. Additionally, it offers USB host support, enabling you to connect external devices such as digital cameras or other MP3 players directly to the unit for easy transfer of music, images and other data files without the need for a PC.

It connects to PCs using a super-fast USB 2.0 connection and it's compatible with Microsoft Windows 98SE, 2000, Me, and XP operating systems. It is not compatible with secure/DRM WMA content from online stores or subscription services. The A2's ultra power-saving circuitry enables up to 10 hours of video and 18 hours of audio continuous playback with its built-in, fully charged, 4300 mAh lithium-polymer battery.

Dissatisfied.......2007-09-13
The unit is good looking and the LCD screen large clear and bright. I bought this unit to record videos w/camera attached. The toggle button used to navigate switches between icons easily but when you try and select one it jumps to another. The same way it does when selecting folders. When in record mode it fades out to a gray screen and turns to snow. Several times when powering up the top of the screen would appear in the middle of the display and the top part would be fuzzy. The most fustrating aspect was the customer service or lack of. There is no working phone number to reach the company. You can however submit a service ticket which is low priority and work in progress. After 2 Months of no contact I finally gave up and returned the unit to Amazon which replaced it. The new unit had all of the same faults plus a few more. Returned to Amazon for refund. If you are just going to use it for photos it is great if yo can get past the fustrating navagation process.
I bought a brick.......2007-09-03
I had read a review for another Cowon product and thought that the A2 would be a better purchase. After purchasing I read that firmware upgrades were difficult. That is true. I downloaded the upgrades but have not been able to move them to the A2. I also found their music source has a limited selection (don't expect to download Bob Dylan music, for example). I am sorry that I let my daughter take my Sony product to college.

This is a Master piece. Though it has been in the market for 2 years it really lived upto the current trend. I would definitely recommend this over the 30GB Ipod. Coz of its flexibility and easy transfer system they have. The music quality is definitely better. Not to mention about their 4" display. Good companion for anyone who travels everyday on a train or bus.
Cons: A little bulky and so inconvinient to slip into ones pocket. But if you are carrying a backpack then hat shouldnt be an issue too.
Terrible -- Didn't work from the start.......2007-08-27
Well, I was really hoping to love this like so many others have. I ordered it for a long trip to Asia, and looked forward to watching videos and listening to music during the 24 hours I'd be spending on a plane.
Unfortunately, the A2 was dead on arrival. It turned on only to show a big red "X" over a picture of the unit. It wouldn't connect with my computer, so a firmware update wasn't even possible. I don't know if that was even the problem -- I'm thinking now that it was just shoddy construction, as I've seen a few posters both here and on Cnet complain that they received DOA units.
Not only that, but Cowon's support was a joke. I was basically told "too bad -- return it to Amazon." Wow, thanks. But since it was -- at this point -- three days before I was going to leave the country, I couldn't send in the defective unit and get a new one in time.
I will definitely always hold it against Cowon that they screwed me out of having entertainment for my long journey. I've now purchased an Archos and it works beautifully. I highly recommend it, and I recommend you stay away from Cowon.
Dead Cow.......2007-08-26
I purchased the Cowon A2 a few months ago at Amazon for the purpose of viewing educational vidoes during the daily commute to/from work. Don't get me wrong, this player has the best overall features in its category, and performed superbly the first week. Then the bottom half of the display turned into semi-transparent lines. Cowon's website was no help. A firmware upgrade didn't help. Now today, less than 3 months after purchase, the unit died and will not reset. My usage was less than 1 hour a day 5 days a week. This is BS. $360 down the drain. I do NOT recommend this player.

I thought that these would make a good pair of surrond sound speakers as no wiring would be required. However, the transmitter kept automaticallly turning off even when the sound was on. Even when they were on, there was quite a bit of background noise.

What a great find for a simple home speaker system........2001-05-24
I was looking for a simple, yet quality, set of speakers to go with our PC-based DVD system. The wireless nature of these speakers was a real selling point for me as I didn't want to have to worry about running wires and I wanted to be able to easily reposition the speakers. The only down side I've found in my use of these speakers is that when I put them in a new location I sometimes have to play with the direction they are pointing to get an optimal signal. I am considering purchasing more of these to use on my home office computer.

I was sent a very nice wireless mouse. You have to have a CD to install this on your computer. I was unfortunately sent the wrong CD. I have been all over trying to find the correct CD. I have to buy the Wireless Mouse to get the CD that comes with it. With shipping this cost me around $25. Thanks for nothing.

The Paragon professional tripods fill the bill, providing heavy-duty support for giant binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes and small telescopes. The Paragon HD-F2 tripod is constructed almost exclusively of aluminum, making it stronger at key stress points where other tripods fail. It features large, adjustable aluminum-tube legs with ridged helical locks. The legs are tri-braced to the center elevator housing for extra stability. The tripod comes with the two-way fluid-type pan head. It features tension adjustment knobs on both axes and can be raised or lowered with a hinged hand crank. A good light weight tripod for spotter or camera.......2004-09-09
I had been using this tripod with my 35mm cameras, medium format cameras (Hasselblads), ETX90 spotting scope and Orion Short Tube 80 refractor. The tripod performs well in most cases, and has a built in bubble level to help in leveling the tripod. The only shortcomings are that the pan head is difficult to adjust in small increments, so centering items in the telescopes are not as effortless as one would like. This tripod is a great platform for a 35mm camera or a medium format camera with shorter lenses. I have since "graduated" to the beefier Orion Paragon-Plus XHD Tripod for my heavier equipment, but still use the Paragon HD-F2 occasionally.
In extremely cold weather, I have had the plastic ring that holds the braces to the central column break. I was not using equal preassure when folding the legs while wearing gloves.
