5 out of 5 stars Great storage for the ipaq........2001-04-05

This is the greatest thing ever invented. I have hours of mp3's and I can even watch windows media videos and mpeg movies(yes, Entire Movies. I can even fit two 1.5 hour movies). What more can you ask for? There is only one concern i have with this, The drive while in operation heats the screen up incredibly, i dont know if that is necesserily bad for the screen because mine after hours of non stop use is working fine.

The volume of the MicroDrive is simply amazing and I highly recommend it over the CompactFlash counterparts.

5 out of 5 stars There's no space like home.......2000-11-05

This is a must have if you spend any extended period of time taking pictures away from home or you take a lot of photos. On a cost per megabyte basis, you cannot do better than a microdrive. Its only potential disadvantages are it reliability and performance. Now that sounds alarming, but neither one is really a concern, as they are only disadvantages relative to standard memory devices.

E.g., microdrives are very reliable and they are reasonably quick. Regarding reliability, since they are miniature hard drives they are can, in theory, be damaged by dropping them. In practice I've only heard of one or two people experiencing such a problem, and those reports came via the Internet. That's not much evidence of a potential problem.

And performance specs show that thye are a bit slower, but I cannot tell the difference in performance between my microdrive and any of my compact flash memory cards. By the way, the 1 gig drives are reported to start up much more slowly than the 340 mb drives, so keep that in mind when deciding which one to buy.

Bottomline, Microtech makes a good card, if you can need the storage space then do not hesitate to buy one.

3 out of 5 stars Great device, but dropped it once, and lost all data!.......2002-05-11

I would've given this product a 5 star rating if I hadn't dropped it. I accidentally dropped it from 5 ft above ground and presumably lost all the data on it, if not even damaged it. My camera says that I need to reformat the microdrive before I can use it, and the USB card reader can't recognize it. This really upsets me because I've taken over 300 pictures with it. I am still trying to find a way to retrieve the data, if it still exists out there! God bless technology; it is really great until it bites you hard!

On a positive note, I loved the fact that I could store so many high quality pictures on it.

2 out of 5 stars Works great, but not without drawbacks.......2001-07-20

This is amazing technology. The read-out on my Canon S10 indicates that I'll be able to store over 500 photos in high resolution setting on the microdrive. That's great, except for two major problems. One, the drive eats power like there's no tomorrow. I run out of battery power (with the display turned off!) about twice as quickly as a regular compact flash card. I'm not sure I can recharge the battery fast enough to ever get anywhere near 500 pictures taken. Most of the power drain would seem to be related to the second drawback. The drive runs extremely hot, which makes my camera very uncomfortable to hold. Not just warm, but hand-me-a-napkin-to-hold-the-camera-while-I-take-this-picture hot. If you really need the storage capacity, this might be the solution, but you better have plenty of batteries (and a potholder) handy if you plan on taking lots of pictures.

5 out of 5 stars Keep it simple shutterbugs........2001-05-12

The IBM Microdrive is simple, convenient, and easy to install. After placing this drive in my Canon Powershot Pro70 digital camera. I began taking pictures. The software for my PC was equally simple to set up and use. These pictures have the best resolution of any of my digital photos.

I own an IBM X20 notebook; this hard drive plugs directly into CF port or into the PCMCIA slot of my Sony F580 laptop using supplied adapter. The transfer speed is significantly faster than USB transfers, and is warp speed 10 when compared to serial uploads from camera to PC.

What else does this drive do? It is compatible with an older Hewlett-Packard Jornada 680 hand held, but does not work with the newer Jornada 545 Pocket PC; however it is compatible with Compaq iPaq and Casio Windows CE hand held PDAs.

A drawback is that not all devices with CF slots will recognize this drive, so check the manufacturer specifications against your system specs. This drive will work with virtually any PC that has the right slots, but with PDAs and cameras performance and usability may vary.

Specifications: This one-inch hard disk drive: (1) Can hold nearly 700 images. (2) It replaces 84 separate 4MB flash memory cards or six 64MB flash cards. This more than equalizes the price; carrying one or two of these drives is certainly better than the flash card option. (3) It removes the need for photo compression that can cause loss of resolution and details. (4) It weighs 16 grams. (5) Has been certified at sustained data rate of 4MB/sec which allows large file transfers. (6) Uses industry standard CF+ type two format that makes it compatible with the PCMCIA slot (adapter required), a USB adapter, and most CF slots. There are more features, but they get extremely technical.

For the convenience, reliability, ease of use, storage capacity, tiny size, light weight, and...well... there are so many features that I love -- it is five stars.

      Amazon.com Product Description

The Casio QV-2000 Plus digital camera is a 2.11-megapixel camera offering 1,600 x 1,200 maximum resolution for still photos as well as 320 x 240 movie capabilities. It provides a 3x optical and 2x digital zoom lens, a 1.8-inch HAST LCD screen, and a cursor pad for user-friendly menu selection. Other features include auto or manual focus, autoexposure, auto white balance, a built-in quartz digital clock, an automatic four-mode flash with red-eye reduction, and nine special shooting modes.

While all these features are relatively standard with comparably priced digital cameras from other manufacturers, what sets the Casio QV-2000 Plus apart from its peers is its memory storage capabilities. It offers CompactFlash card capability (with an 8 MB card included) much like other digital imaging devices, but also supports a 340 MB IBM Microdrive (included), the most powerful method of storing digital images to date. With an IBM Microdrive, users can snap up to 400 high-quality images or 19 minutes of 7 frame-per-second video without having to switch memory cards or download. One IBM MicroDrive could replace over 11 rolls of film. This storage capacity accommodates anyone who needs to take a large number of pictures or who plans on being away from a computer for an extended period of time, such as while on vacation.

The Casio QV-2000 Plus is USB compatible and works with PC and Macintosh platforms. It operates on either four AA batteries or an optional AC adapter. Along with the QV-2000 Plus, you receive a USB cable, a serial cable, a Macintosh serial adapter cable, a software bundle, a 340 MB IBM Microdrive, an 8 MB CompactFlash type I card, a video cable, a soft carrying case, and a strap. The included software bundle enables you to instantly upload your photos to the Internet, to convert files into e-mail form, or to edit your photos with ease.

Casio backs the QV-2000 Plus with a one-year warranty.

      5 out of 5 stars Casio w/IBM Micro Drive.......2000-07-13

I just returned from 24 days in Europe. Before leaving (and after an enormous amount of online research) I purchased the Casio QV2000 w/Micro Drive from Amazon.com. I also purchased a rechargable battery unit that included a car adaptor. Since this camera loves batteries-it was great to be able to put in freshly recharged batteries everyday (the battery unit was plugged into the cigarette lighter of my rental car). The camera (with micro drive) has the capacity for 400 high resolution pictures. I took 375 photos in 24 days! Now I am editing & captioning them using the software that Casio provides. This camera was perfect for a long trip. It's easy to use & the micro drive means you will never have to worry about running out of memory. In addition, I used several of its features with wonderful results: Panorama-the Schonbruen Palace and Lake Geneva; Night-Charles Bridge in Prague, Street performers in Florence; Landscape-Swiss Alps; etc. Highly recommended.

      4 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy.......2000-07-06

My previous digital camera was a Sony FD series w/floppy. I purchased it several years ago when the technology was just being introduced. Its lack of quality resolution, speed and capacity soured me on digital technology and I decided to wait a few years before revisting this arena.Well time has passed and after reading numerous reviews and checking out several cameras at retail locations, I decided to purchase the Casio QV2000. To be honest my main reason for selecting this camera was the Compact Flash slot due to my recent purchase of the Casio Cassiopeia PocketPC.Much to my surprise it is this camera which I have fallen in love with. Obviously the technology has improved and all the shortcomings of my previous camera have been addressed. I was just absolutely staggered by the ease of use, editing capability and picture resolution. There are two things which I dislike, 1) The lens cover slide mechanism feels like a disaster witing to happen, particularly when the camera is used by a newbie

      2) Why don't they ship rechargeable batteries and make it so that you can rechargethem in the camera overnight with the AC adapter that should be shipping with this camera.

Item 2 refers to all digital camera manufacturers

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera - Software difficult.......2000-05-20

I just received my Casio QV2000. It's truly a great digital camera. Very easy to use and lots of bells and whistles. The Software that accompanies the camera is difficult, necessitating three calls to Casio Techsupport. I might add that they were excellent. User documentation is scarse, so call Customer Service and they will send the manuals. Call Casio for an AC Adapter. The recommended Olympus adapter does not fit. Otherwise, pictures are clear and well detailed. If you have Windows 98 Upgrade the USB cable connection to the computer will not work and you have to use the serial cable, which is slow and needs the AC Adapter.

      Fuji S2pro, Digitial SLR

The 340 microdrive is a good storage system. I take medium-high quality pictures. I usually can fit 250-500 pictures depending on the variable quality settings. (9+ different settings) It's light, concealable and good. I do have a roblem with it.
      1) It's SLOW. the speed the microdrive records at is pathetic. When i shoot 8 FPS, i sit there waiting for like 30-40 seconds for it to record all 8 shots. it's annoying. Other compact flash and SM don't take that long. Tranfering from the reader via firewire to the G4 is slow as well. The reader is fast with SM and other CF. the drive is pretty durable. i've dropped it, rattled it, ran with it and the camera, and it was fine. Age does kill drives though. I use the camera for yearbook and a drive from last year just broke. I wouln't read in the camera or reader. it was a sad day. The drive is expensive, slow, but can store a heck of alot. A Lexar 512 smartmedia is probably the better choice though. it's signifigcently faster.

      Product Description

Imagine this - a CD radio cassette player with sound virtualizer and Acoustic Separator Cabinet to produce 3-dimensional sound. What does this mean? Try superb sound quality, music so clear that it resonates in your heart. The Panasonic RX-ES25 CD Radio Cassette Player features nothing but the best in sound quality. A 1-bit D/A conversion system gives that clear, crisp CD sound we all crave for. 3-D sound virtualizer circuitry recreates a sound field with distinct stereo imaging, exceptional depth, and well-centered vocals. The RX-ES25 also includes full-range 3-1/8th speakers pointing upwards, with a diffuser to scatter the sound for expansive, natural stereo. The acoustic separator cabinet keeps the left and right speaker enclosures completely separate, to help reduce mutual signal interference. This creates a resonating chamber for excellent bass response, and assures a clear, pure sound. Full Remote Control is also provided.

      Amazon.com Product Description

Panasonic's RX-ES20 digitally tuned CD radio cassette boombox features full-range speakers angled upward for diffused 3-D sound. Spaciousness is further enhanced by Sound Virtualizer circuitry, which creates a sound field with distinct stereo imaging and depth. Front-facing bass reflex ports aim low frequencies toward you, while the speakers' free-edge design results in increased, clean bass response. Other sound-enhancing features include an acoustic isolation cabinet, which places the main speakers in separate compartments to help reduce distortion, and four preset equalizer modes (XBS, soft, clear, and vocal) for different personal tastes. The XBS (Extra Bass System) mode ensures effective reproduction of deep, low frequencies.

The AM/FM digital tuner provides auto tuning, auto scanning, and memory for up to 24 stations. It also ensures virtually drift-free reception. The Panasonic RX-ES20 has a motorized front-loading CD player that uses a MASH 1-bit digital-to-analog converter to assure faithful CD sound. Playback options include 24-track random-access programming, random play, and repeat play (track or disc). The cassette player uses Tape Program Search to quickly find desired tracks and can automatically set tape bias for normal and metal tapes. CD recording is made easy with synchro start, which begins to play the CD automatically when the cassette's record button is pressed.

Other features include a clock, play/record/sleep timers, a full-function remote control, soft tape eject, a large LCD screen, and a stylish silver exterior. The Panasonic RX-ES20 includes an AC adapter. It will also run on eight D batteries--plus four AAs for the clock--for portable use.

      5 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTY AWSOME!!!.......2001-05-07

I was at Circuit City, and only at volume at 26, and an employee came to me to turn it down. It is very compact for short shelfs, and is perfect for home. I totaly recommend this one to you! There is a better model of this to this one, the Panasonic Boombox- RXES25!!! it is not in stock right now, but i recommend you to get that one instead just because it is so much better

      5 out of 5 stars Panasonic RXES20 Boombox.......2000-12-27

I was having trouble making a decision on which boombox to purchase. I decided to browse through one of the local retail stores one last time. I couldn't find anything with the same features as the Panasonic RXES20. Also, all of the boomboxes looked the same. I wanted quality and uniqueness. Therefore, I got on the internet as soon as I got home and went straight to amazon.com. I was happy to learn that there was still one-only one-boombox remaining. It sounds great and it looks good. I've had several people to ask me where I purchased it. They love the look and when I play it at my meetings, they love the sound as well. I'm so glad that I made the decision to purchase it.

2 out of 5 stars Totally disappointed in this product!!.......2000-09-13

Hey all you electronics fans- read this carefully before you decide to purchase this item. This appears to be a great little boombox- with the panasonic name and everything and all the features- like you get a remote with it. However, i've mostly bought Aiwa stereos and boomboxes my whole life and so in comparison to the quality of Aiwa which was all i really had to go on, i gave this product only 2 stars. Its ok IF your not concerned with crystal clear sound quality. And the other thing i didn't like is that it only goes so loud...and i wanted it louder! Remote was ok, but keys were fairly tiny & a little hard to see. I decided to ship this one back and compare Aiwa to sony, and although i love Aiwa, i found the best and most powerful sound i've ever heard from the Sony CFD-ZW755. You WON'T be disappointed, believe me. I am the biggest skeptic there is when it comes to quality and sound. I'd rethink this one if i were you.
