The Basics
- Hard Drive: The 40 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is below average in size when compared to other budget-minded desktop PCs. It will provide decent storage space for your family digital photos as well as a large digital audio library--but it's not quite enough for editing digital video from camcorders.
- Processor: The Intel Celeron processor might not be as sexy as a Pentium, but it still gets your work done speedily enough. It has a 2.5 GHz speed with a 400 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 128K L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
- Memory: The 256 MB of installed RAM will get you started, but you'll want to add more to handle any kind of multimedia application and most business productivity suites. This desktop has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
- CD/DVD Drive: This desktop includes a speedy combo CD-RW drive, with 40x write, 16x rewrite, and 40x read speeds for CDs.
- Keyboard & Mouse: The T2542 comes with a standard Windows keyboard and two-button mouse.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The integrated Intel Extreme Graphics video/graphics card (with 64 MB of shared video memory) is adequate for streaming Internet video, but won't be enough for today's demanding immersive 3D games. It also features an integrated audio card and headphone, microphone, and line-in jacks.

The T2542 has a basic set of external ports:

After inspecting the insides of HP, Compaq and E-machines and observing very little if any difference in build quality, I decided on this entry level unit. Main reason: price. I would have preferred a Pentium 4 CPU but that was $150 more. To compensate for the Celeron chips pokey ways, I added an extra 512mb stick of ram.
I also replaced ( out of whim not necessity) the original 40 gb 5400 drive with an 80gb 7200 Seagate hard drive. Because Emachines come with restore disks, installing the new drive was a snap. This was one year ago. No trouble to report. If I were buying today, I would still pick Emachines, but would select one with an AMD - Athlon cpu.

this IS the worse computer ever. I've had problems with this thing since day 1. Click on a file...yeah..be patient..only take about 5 minutes for it to pop up. and the damn thing freezes all the time..my shut down won't even work sometimes so i have to turn it off by hand,which can corrupt files (happened once..had to restart my whole computer) they say the Blaster worm is actually a worm but i think its just a glitch in the system cause i had it AGAIN after i restarted it, i've had troubles just to get on here and write this review because of all the annoying glitches and slowness of it. i dont even have 1/2 of my hard drive filled..ive checked for viruses, and i defraged and cleaned it up..so dont say its going slow becuz $hit on my computer..please steer away from this thing, go get a good brand..such as a sony..thats what im getting next a Vaio

Very bad service.......2004-04-07
I bought an e-machines computer 3 months back and have had all sorts of problems with this computer in 3 months. I have been very unhappy the way I have been dealt with. I just talked to a guy call Dustin (or Justin) who would not tell me his real name and said Dustin in the corporate office is all I need to know. He also said there is no one else I could speak to and he had no supervisor (It all ended at him is what he said). He was extremely arrogant and had no tact to talk to a customer who has been frustrated by a bad product.
Stay away from e-machines
bad service and low quality.......2003-12-21
I purchased a T2542 emachine® on 1 November 2003. The first computer had an Ethernet card that was defective out of the box. I called the technical service group at emachines. They recommended that I return this computer and get a new one - I did.
Approximately 3 weeks later, the power supply of the new computer stopped working. I called technical service again; they had a short (under 30 seconds) wait time. I was told that a new power supply could be sent and I could handle the repair (they said it was easy - they are probably right). Anyway, I was going out of town and said that I would request the part when I returned (I did). Four days later - no part.
So I called technical service again and they said that they didn't know why it didn't ship. They would put me on the top of the list but couldn't guarantee when or if a new part would be shipped in the next week. I asked to speak with a manager. Their management also told me that they have no control over distribution or shipping and I would have to just wait. When I asked to speak to the head manager, I was not allowed too. They gave me the corporate office number and said that was all they could do.
I have owned my emachine for 6 weeks and it has only worked for ½ of this time. This computer was inexpensive, but not worth the savings. The service and customer care is below standard and I question the ethics of the management organization. I would recommend that you do not purchase this computer.
My new Kickin' Computer.......2003-10-06
I've been waiting years to buy a new computer and finally bought this one over the weekend. It's a really good buy. However, if you buy it in an actual Circuit City, you will get $350 in rebates with the monitor and printer included. This ends up with a actual purchase price around $390.
The computer itself is fast, and easy to use. Note that because it does not have the absolute latest versions of Windows XP and Norton Antivirus, you MUST register your virus software FIRST and then download the blaster worm patches from Microsoft. My computer had been infected in the first hour of use. After all was downloaded though it was fine.
Check out the Big Fix feature eMachines offers. It's very helpful.

I absolutely hate this monitor. This monitor combines a standard computer monitor with a mirror. I can see my own reflection clearly displayed as I am working on the computer. Since I primarily use my computer for work and not to admire myself, it is a big annoyance.
Moreover, the monitor was was surprisingly difficult to assemble (yes you do need to assemble!) as the cable cover did not fit.
NEC 70GX2 - BEST 17" monitor!.......2007-04-16
This is by far the BEST 17" monitor I've seen yet. The screen closely mimics a quality CRT display without the bulk. It is well worth the $399 list price and is an absolute bargain at the current prices.
It is the brightest, sharpest and most clear 17" LCD display I've seen yet. The cabling is well-concealed and out of the way. The base is stable and can tilt AND swivel. The switches are well-positioned and even the brightness of the "Power" LED can be adjusted.
The only monitors that came close to the NEC GX2 series were the Sony XBrite models, which seem to be out of production.

Truly excellent sound, with a variety of set-up options, and a nice, sharp, crisp picture, which can be changed easily, according to one's preference. This model has all the bells, whistles and connection options one would want. Sleek, unobtrusive design, light-weight - ideal for a bedroom or other small space. I feel I got the most bang for the buck when I purchased this set.

This is a nice looking TV, with good picture quality (assuming good source quality). Have played games on it and watched several action type movies and have seen only one instance of ghosting. This is a smallish TV and best for a bedroom/kitchen type room. A DVI or HDMI connection would have been nice, but at the price they were offering it, it still should get 5 stars.
