Don't Do It.......2007-09-19

Mine lasted about 3 years before it locked up. I hated it the whole time. Not only is it huge, the separate inkjet cartridges are expensive and a pain. I bought a HP for under $120 and it is small and easier to operate.

Very good quality printer, excellent photo quality prints can be made using this printer.

Only lasted a year.......2006-11-02

For the first year I owned this printer I loved it. Yes, the ink's expensive, but I felt the quality of the photos made it worth the price. After owning the printer for 13 months (immediately after warranty expired) the printer broke. No warning. Suddenly it wouldn't even turn on. I called a printer repair center & they said the cost of parts & labor would be more than the cost of a new printer. Although I don't expect printers to last 5 years, I do hope for a few years of use. Any less than that makes the purchase a waste of money. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this printer.

Nice for a few months - then horrible.......2006-10-23

Drinks ink. Paper feeding problems after very little printing and light use.

The scanner is great. Software was ok. As a printer it has been very disappointing. The few pictures I got when I first bought it were very nice, but since one year I spend all my time cleaning the heads (wasting ink) and stopping printing jobs because the printer is too stupid to realize it is not feeding the paper correctly. My Lexmark I bought years ago for 1/6 the price has been a workhorse by comparison. Very disappointed with this machine.

I've had my RX-500 for a year now and continuous paper feed issues, film scanning issues and the ink-suck warm up have convinced me to start shopping for another. (I'm a patient person.)

The straw that broke the camel's back was the ink-waste. This is a common issue with most inkjet printers, but the amount of color ink that is wasted is unbelievable to me when I print nothing but black-and-white documents (using the "black ink only" selection) for four months at a time. It's either poorly designed or Epson's way of fleecing their customers through ink refills--both signs of a poorly managed product line.

Stay away from this one!!!!.......2006-06-28

I bought this printer some months ago, and I only used a few times for printing, since I actually bought it for scanning. But after weeks I realized that every time I turned on the printer, even for scanning, the level of ink was decreasing. So this printer not only takes about a minute to get ready after you turn it on (wasting ink unnecessarily), but actually at the end it will tell you that the cartridges are empty when indeed you can hear that there is some ink in them. Once it tells you that one of the cartridges is empty...it won't print at all!!.

Case offers some camera protection..........2007-01-29

Nikon CF D100 - Soft case

After reading the negative reviews of the CF-D70 case, the one designed for the D70, I bought this D100 case.

Pros:

- Good quality, but it's NOT leather as the ad says. It's a soft plastic material with a foamed cloth lining; total thickness is about 1/16".

- As a D70 is a bit smaller (5% +/-) than a D100, this case easily fits a D70 with the 18-70mm Nikor lens. It should fit a D100 perfectly.

- Provides some protection from light rain, dusty environments, and mild bumps. This case provides a credible method of carrying the camera in the trunk or floor of a vehicle, rather than just having the lens cover on. When I get caught in non-light rain, I slip the cased camera into my jacket.

- Designed to allow a camera strap to be used without interference.

- Take photos with the case still attached to the camera. Remove the top flap's two snaps, unzip the main cover, and the camera is exposed. The case's bottom plate thumb-screw stays attached to the tripod mount, with the case dangling.

- Has a nice Nikon logo on the lens end of the case. Of course, this tells thieves you have a good camera.

Cons:

- If the case is on and you want to snap a quick photo, forget about it. It takes 5 seconds to loosen the case off the camera, and the commotion to remove it could alert an animal or kid that you're watching.

- You need to remove the thumb-screwed-on bottom plate to use a tripod, change batteries, or transfer photos via the USB cable. However, the CF card can be removed with the case on.

- The case off the camera is probably too bulky to store in most pockets, so you'll need a place to keep it when it's removed. Of course, that bulk provides camera protection...

Summary:

I don't use this case very often, but it's a nice option to have.

Does the job.......2007-01-09

I bought thecase for my D70 after reading about it at [...] when someone asked if any Nikon case fits a D70. The body mount portion fits exactly, you still have a clear view of the LCD screen for review and there is plenty of room for my long lens. About the only thing I don't like is you have to take the case completely off everytime you want to download pics or use a tripod.
