An incredibly compact and slick design makes Fuji's FinePix F402 stand out among other 2.1-megapixel cameras. The slim, brushed-metal case slips easily into a shirt pocket and is durable enough to stand common shocks and bumps. For sheer "wow" factor, the camera's shape and power switch, a front panel slide, is unique and charming.

One reason for the camera's small size is the lack of an optical zoom lens. The F402 instead uses a 3x digital zoom that electronically magnifies the image; however, this could easily be done on a computer when you can choose exactly where to zoom, so the feature isn't entirely useful.

Although the CCD sensor has a resolution of 2.1 megapixels, the camera can achieve 4 megapixels through the use of interpolation (thanks to Fuji's Super CCD), which electronically guesses the details between pixels in order to create a higher-resolution image. The results are decent, but do not match true 4-megapixel sensors. At all of the resolution settings, images come out clean and colorful, but there is some slight artifacting that smudges the details. This may be a problem, especially if you are interested in producing 8-by-10-inch prints.

The automatic settings are effective for most purposes, but the added semimanual controls are fun and useful to play with--especially the ISO film-speed control for capturing fast movement.

The 1.5-inch LCD is bright and clear, but crops the sides a little bit from view, resulting in a saved image that is wider than the one you composed. The menu and buttons are very clearly laid out and are easy to use. The F402 is a beautiful-looking camera that performs very well, but a rather high price keeps it from being a truly great value. --Bao Tran

Optics and Resolution
With its 2-megapixel Super CCD, the FinePix F402 delivers resolutions up to 2,304 x 1,728 pixels (4 megapixels) for colorful prints up to 11 by 14 inches. Combined with Fuji's proprietary image-processing method--pixel data coupling--and new noise-reduction technology, the new Super CCD enables the FinePix F402 to deliver a wider range of ISO sensitivities with a minimal increase in CCD "noise." The FinePix F402 also features a 39mm lens with a 3x digital zoom.

Fuji's Super CCD
Instead of conventional CCDs with square photodiodes and pixel arrangements, Fuji's Super CCD has octagonal-shaped photodiodes and pixels situated on 45-degree angles. This "honeycomb" pattern increases sensitivity, allowing pixels to be efficiently packed at maximum density. The area of the photodiode in a half-inch Super CCD with 2 million pixels is about 1.6 times as large as the area offered in the conventional CCD with the same number of pixels. The Super CCD improves overall signal-to-noise ratio and offers a much wider dynamic range.

Shutter speeds range from 3 seconds to 1/1,000 second with adjustable ISO sensitivity of 100/200/400, including a high-sensitivity 1-megapixel (1,280 x 960) mode at ISO 800/1600.

The FinePix F402 is compatible with the new XD memory card. Comparable in size to a penny and weighing less than 1/10th of an ounce, the new XD memory card is not only the smallest storage medium, but it also uses less power for better battery performance and has faster data transfer rates than other memory cards. The included 16 MB XD card will store approximately 12 images at fine mode and 26 images at normal mode.

This is it, guys, if you can find it in stock anywhere. You won't see it in a store. There's no zoom, but you won't miss it, and the battery lasts through a full day of use. The cradle is a must-have for convenience, charging and downloading just by setting it in the cradle. Get a 256 meg memory card for it and set the quality setting just one step below maximum, and you'll have 339 high quality 8x10 photos without downloading. Great for the techno-phobes.

Size:

The most compact for the F series, very thin in thickness and weight around 140 g with battery. It's really the camera that can put in the shirt pocket or hang as a mobile phone.

Outlook:

The material of the case is metallic aluminim, rather cool and futuristic. The lens cover is good for protection. Anyway you can use the viewfinder to get the rough setting first. The start-ups is fast.

Ease of Use:
As for beginner/daily use level, the quick menu buttons on the back is very convenient for you to swicth to movie mode and adjust zoom, flash & modes.

As a bonus, there is also a self-timer.

Comments:
Only 2 valid megapixel (extend to 3m by software) & only digital zoom, I have it for my kids for causual shots. Pic quality is fine for 4" x 6". And the LCD cannot cover all the area. Poor for night shots as predictable. The using of a new XD cards formatt is also why I do not turn back to old models. The main point is the price...if you have (or dunno mind to) Smartmedia, the Finepix 50i , 40i or 30i or Casio Exilim are also good to buy instead, as these can play MP3 music. For better picture quality and more advance setting in such size range the Minolta Dimage Xi is much better.

Accessories:

Come with a cradle ( for connect with PC, TV ), battery (NP-40 which is very small) & an adaptor. You may need to buy an extra battery $25 or a slim case ( i use a PDA case n look smart ) and expensive xD cards as well.

If you plan to buy a camera-phone, take this instead for its size and quality.

An Excellent Camera That Really Fits In Your Pocket.......2003-01-07

I wanted a camera without a zoom lens (because I don't find them useful) and something that would fit easily in my shirt pocket. I also wanted a camera that I could carry effortlessly, so that I'd likely carry it. So you'd have it for those moments you'd like a camera-not just the big events. Well, I am so in love with this camera.

Despite its small size the pictures are fantastic. We have even enlarged portions of some shots and printed them 8x11 and had very little pixellation.

But, the best thing is that I now carry the camera nearly al the time - and its no burden. Battery life is good. Best of all, connecting it to the computer and instaling the software was easy for me-and I hate computers. I love this camera!

Good Unit While It Lasted.......2006-08-18

I had this personal cassette player for little over a year. Unfortunately, after dropping it the headphone connection shorts (even though I bought new earbuds). While it lasted, the sound was good and no problems with the functions. Wish they could have developed a player that could withstand shocks. (Forget Walkman Shock players, more $$ and they're junk.) Looks like cassette players are passe. Too bad, because I listen to books-on-tape.

The NEC LCD1525V 15-inch flat-panel monitor is a straightforward analog TFT active-matrix LCD unencumbered by superfluous features that you may never need. The tilt/swivel base affixed to the bottom of the monitor has a small footprint, which is a great benefit when you have a desk full of equipment, and the monitor is lightweight enough (only 13 pounds) to push around as needed.

Installation is a simple as it should be for an entry-level unit. Slide the LCD1525V out of the box and you'll be up and running in five minutes or less. The onscreen management controls (in other words, buttons) on the front let you alter brightness or contrast and adjust the horizontal size or position of the image. We took all the adjustments to the extreme and were satisfied with the screen's performance. Further options allow you to correct any geometric distortion and the color percentages. A recall button quickly returns whatever changes were made back to the company's default settings, which we found actually were the best for regular usage.

The operating manual is brief yet complete. The simple line drawings readily identify and illustrate setup and features. In addition, the troubleshooting guide is an easy-to-read chart that should solve most common predicaments. died in 3 months - not great pic.......2001-08-05

I've had only NEC's for over 10 years. My last 2 CRT's suffered severe distortion within the first year. Replaced by NEC, the same thing happened with the reconditioned they gave me in return. Went to this LCD 3 months ago, and while the pic quality wasn't the best, I still hung on to the NEC quality of old. Well, this one has died too! I have now given up on NEC. It might just be bad luck, but so many performance issues has made me wary.

The guy that wrote the review below must of had a lemon because I think the monitor is fine. Of course there are better LCD's out there but for most people this is a great value for the price and I would recommend it to anyone. Before I bought it I looked at many different LCDs in computer stores and made my decision that way. I have even been running Win98 + Mandrake Linux and the monitor was very clear and flicker free and did not pose any installation issues.

Big disappointment.......2001-01-14

Picture quality was poor, the fonts were less readable than on our old monitors. I don't think it was the fault of the video cards, my monitor had higher resolution previously. Also, installation was difficult (had to download drivers from the NEC site) and de-installation (under Windows98) was disastrous; an inexperienced user would have needed tech support to restore the system.

The tilt/swivel base is almost too small for the panel. When the panel is tilted beyond a certain point. the base starts to become unstable. Color is superb. Very easy to set up.

This is not a counterfeit machine.
This was set to region free by the company that imports these machines from overseas.
Several companies in the US sell region free DVD players.
Some are 110-240 Volts because they come from another country and also exported to South America (region 4/NTSC)

Counterfeit DVD Player--Scam Alert!.......2005-08-03

The Pioneer DV-373S DVD player is a counterfeit machine! I received one as a gift and discovered that Pioneer doesn't make a PAL-NTSC converting multi-region DVD player. I spoke to a tech rep at Pioneer when I couldn't find the PAL NTSC converter features in the enclosed operating manual. That's when I knew there was a problem. The online features also tout the machine as a multi-region DVD player. Not so! It's only a region 1 (US only) machine. So for all the proclaimed NTSC-PAL multi-region compatable features, the Pioneer DV-373S is not made by Pioneer, has no PAL-NTSC capability, and is only a run-of-the-mill DVD NTSC region 1 player. Someone went to a great deal of trouble to create this bogus machine that seemingly answered the DVD lover's wildest dreams. (There is also a bogus JVC player with similar features that also is not made by JVC nor does it have the touted PAL-NTSC or multiregion features.) Notice that there are no meaningful reviews online of the Pioneer machine either. It's only offered thru distributors who were duped and not thru Pioneer. Don't be duped by this scam unless you'd like to also buy that $4,000 Rolex for only $59.95!

Inferior Product. Do Not Buy this product........2004-07-10

While the wireless keyboard works OK, the rechargable wireless optical mouse has a ton of problems. To name a few, the rechargable mouse doesn't charge all the time. So you often end up with a "dead" mouse even if you leave it on the charger overnight. The mouse also has a EXTREMELY POOR range. It only works within 2-3 feet of the receiver WITHOUT ANY OBSTACLES. Furthermore, the optical sensor on the mouse often can't detect movement. So you can move your mouse any way you want and the pointer on the screen just sits there. Last but not least, the mouse goes into "power save" mode too fast ans too often. So you constantly have to "wake up" the mouse in order to use it. I tried to contact technical support from Memorex about the inferior mouse, and I was told that "It's normal. They are all like that." So I gave up and bought myself a "lo-gi-tec" one and this one has no problem so far. In conclusion. The Memorex RF6000 has a extremely poorly made mouse which should not be marketed in the first place. I am very disappointed about the product.

dont get it.......2003-06-02

reception with this thing is lousy. It periodically 'stalls' when you're moving the mouse. very annoying. I have it on a desk right next to another (different brand) cordless kb/mouse, and that one works fine.
I highly suggest you buy something else.
