Internally, the receiver is engineered for extraordinary sonic performance, with an amplifier section that delivers seven channels of high-current (+/-35 amps), wide-bandwidth amplification--50 watts into 8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with less than 0.07 percent total harmonic distortion--in addition to employing state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters.

The receiver also offers a wide range of digital and matrix surround modes, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx (which provides an expansive, full-range 7.1-channel program from any stereo or 5.1-channel source), DTS, DTS ES Discrete and Matrix, DTS 96/24, and DTS Neo:6. Listeners will also delight in the Virtual Speaker mode, which creates an enveloping sound field when fewer than six speakers are available, and Dolby Headphone, which provides a much more open and realistic presentation through a pair of ordinary headphones.

Adding to the receiver's versatility are such sound-enhancing features as Harman International's exclusive Logic 7 processing in both 5.1 and 7.1 versions, which creates a wider, more enveloping field environment and more defined fly-overs and pans; and VMAx, which uses proprietary processing to create an open, spacious sound field even when only two front speakers are available. The receiver's extensive bass management options, meanwhile, include four separate crossover groupings.

Other receiver essentials include high-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video switching with assignable inputs, an onscreen menu and display system with the choice of a blue or black background screen, and compatibility with the Bridge, a Harman Kardon device that works with most iPod models. The Bridge lets you operate your iPod from across the room using the AVR 240's remote control, which has been preprogrammed with several iPod control codes. As a result, listeners can select tracks and navigate most iPod functions, charge the unit, or even view track information on the AVR 240's LED display or onscreen menu.

The receiver's variety of audio and video connections include three wide-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video inputs, five S-video and five composite video inputs, and two analog audio inputs. Digital audio options, meanwhile, include three coaxial and three optical audio inputs, including one of each on the front panel. Other jacks range from 6- and 8-channel direct audio inputs to 7.1-channel preamp outputs that accommodate a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, or universal player.

Anyone that's ever suffered from technology overload when setting up his or her audio/video system can rest easy with the AVR 240. The unit's intuitive onscreen menus coordinate with the system's EzSet/EQ function to provide automated system calibration and room equalization, thus greatly simplifying installation. The resulting speaker output compensates for the effects of a room's acoustics to improve the overall system performance. In tandem with EzSet/EQ--which comes with its own microphone--the AVR 240 also includes a full set of manual configuration settings for those who wish to custom-trim their system even further.

Lastly, the AVR 240 comes with an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets. The AVR 240 measures 17.3 by 5.9 by 13.8 inches (W x H x D) and carries a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Fantastic Product.......2007-03-25

I looked at various near high end systems, Denon, HK, etc. I am verry happy with my purchase. It is a beautiful system. It replaced a Sony. My picture is better and the sound is terriffic. The EZ set feature setup surround perfect with my Bose speakers. If I would have researched it a little more, I would have went with the 245 bc of HDMI and upcoding of my older Svideo to component. I use it with DTV Tivo, DVD, and AppleTV to my HDTV.

I bought this to replace a mid-range Sony receiver. After having had two Sony units that have failed in the past 10 years, I decided it was time to move on. I'm glad I did. The HK sounds better, looks better and has better options than the Sony. I hooked up all my video through the receiver, so now I can just change the audio source, and the video source changes as well. I am finally able to play my iPod through my front and rear surround speakers, to create 4 speaker stereo - something I wasn't able to do with my Sony. I highly recommend this unit. The only negligible complaint is that volume level is measured in negative decibels. So, as you increase volume, it shows a decreased decibel, which is a little confusing.

I am not a big technical guy. But I do my research, and I want quality. This receiver has more features than I will ever use. We use it mostly for watching DVD's in surround sound. Great buy, good experience with Amazon.

A Nice Surprise.......2007-01-11

After reading how complicated and confusing this could all be, the AVR 240 was really easy to set up. Then the real surprise, this unit sounds great! I was replacing an old amplifier when I decided to look into a unit that not only acts as a stereo but as a surround sound unit as well. I really didn't expect to have sooo much more. It runs with various combinations of speakers for surround sound and will turn that feature off completly and stand in as a stereo amp. for all my other units (cd, tape etc.) and has the radio built in. A great unit with great sound.

A Hard to Find Replacement Battery.......2003-09-13

Finding a replacement battery for my cordless phone in regular stores was a nightmare. After searching the internet, I was amazed that only Amazon.com had a compatible battery, and at a reasonable price. Instead of storing a useless dead phone, I purchased the battery recommended for my model, and am pleased that the phone is functional again. Next time I need a battery for the cordless, amazon will be the first place I look.

Terrible return policy........2006-06-12

Sandisk will not refund your money. I purchased the card based on the table of compatabilities from their website. They said it was compatable with my PDA. After 3 days of trying to get it to work, I e-mailed Sandisk for help. They told me it was not compatable. I e-mailed them the table showing it was compatable and asked for return instructions. They refused to refund my money.

Not compatible with Garmin ique m5.......2005-08-13

I just purchased a garmin ique m5 and ordered the sandisk sd wifi card with 256 mb memory. I haven't used the sd card yet (still waiting for it to arrive). I emailed sandisk to find out if this is compatible with garmin ique m5, they replied and advised me not to use it because of driver issues. I don't know what to do now with this card when I receive it, there's no use for it.

Sandisk has discontinued these cards and are not replacing them under warranty.......2005-07-08

I own this card and recently started having problems. When I called Sandisk and they have no stock to replace these cards. I am pretty ticked off at Sandisk. They should be able to replace this card under the three year warranty. They want me to return it and they will replace it with a 1 GB memory card, which is worthless as I really need the wifi portion, not the memory.
Buyer beware.

Note added 3/21/06...I have to give credit to Sandisk, after repeatedly calling (for six months) and escalating the problem, I did get a replacement. THANK YOU SANDISK! It was not the way it should have been in warranty position (6 months into a 3 year warranty). It was very much a hassle, but eventually worked out. Should hold me over until I purchase a new PDA with wireless built in. This is an excellent idea of combination unit, hope someone else picks up the idea.

great product, works as advertised.......2005-06-23

This works well on the dell axim x3. I did have some intial difficulty but I called sandisk support and they walked me through. I was up and running with WEP encryption. I have windows mobile 2003.

Ipaq 3955, no memory.......2005-05-10

I did get this to work in one way or another. In ce 2002 the memory showed up but no WiFi. I upgraded to CE2003 and the WiFi works, but no memory. The reason I bought this was that J&R expressly said it worked on the 3955. I am a bit disappointed that it isn't fully functional, but the WiFi works, so I guess I will keep it. I hope they update the drivers, but after talking to Sandisk, I am not holding my breath. They weren't too interested in helping me.
