ok pc.......2005-03-22

i bought this before i started gaming it starts with a sucky video card like only 1 mb and an ok 128 mb of ram but if your looking for a good gaming computer, that you dont want to upgrade then this is not your computer. I have upgraded it but it is hard to find a good video card for this computer because it has pci slots and most have agp but if your looking for a good coputer for work then this is it all-in-all its ok.

When reformatting the drive the petition that holds all of the xp and files includeing drivers are lost HP no longer includes backup discs,so you either have to buy the xp or re-install an earlier version,I installed win98 SE with little problems other than having to install an additional pci sound card due to the unavailability of the driver not being offered on the HP site.
But I picked up a new 4 ch sound card at ebay for less than $10.00
overall for performance it handles multitasking very well I havent had any blue screens yet,so ill keep my fingers crossed.
excellant machine,the only disadvantage ive seen is that it came with a Trigem Lomita motherboard which is pretty crappy as it fails to utlise the fairly hardy 1.10 ghz intell processor and the limited board only supporting up to 512mb ram,so if you run intensive graphics such as 3d the onboard intell i810e(discontinued)graphics chip isnt enough as it only allows 1mb system ram to be allocated for graphics,though it does come with 5 pci slots it wouldve been a little better if the motherboard had also came with a graphic slot as my old AST Adventure 100mhz allowed 1mb and could be upgraded on board an additional meg.

A great computer experience from hp.......2002-04-29

Last month I desperatly needed to replace my old hp from 1995. This brand new hp is fantastic. It's fast enough, has all the necessary programs you need, and offers a nice gaming experience. For sound, the Polk Audio speakers work very well.

The computer has a nice, sleek, metallic blue and silver look. It has easy to access USB and Serial ports in the front, along with a 48x CD Drive and a nice CD storage area at the the top. I didn't buy an hp monitor mainly because it's horrendously ugly (my reason for giving it 4 stars). I picked up a satisfying ViewSonic monitor with a nice silver color.

Windows XP is fantastic. The new start menu is very nice, and the program offers so much more than previous Windows installments. Plus, the program has a very modern look to compete with the current efforts of Apple's fancy new systems.

All in all, if you just need a fast computer for the needs of any computer junkie, I'd strongly reccomend this hp.

Nice Package Very Nice Price!.......2002-04-11

This model has many new features built in. Very compatible with hardware additions, and saves much time installing programs because it either has them already or automatically installs them without requiring a disk or re-asssignment. The price is so inexpensive, we plan to pass down this model to our children. HP offers so many re-bates on purchases, you can't go wrong. Our previous computer was a Pentium 2, and this model is faster than that! Very inexpensive, but offers much value for the dollars!

It is a great product but they should at least include the monitor. I have seen other products around this price that include the monitor and printer.

The Basics

Hard Drive: The 80 GB Ultra DMA (5400 RMM) hard drive offers a decent amount of storage for all your documents, digital photos, and MP3 collection, but it is smaller than what is offered with the latest PCs.
Processor: The 2.70 GHz Intel Celeron processor offers fast and affordable performance which is perfect for everyday computing tasks--from making entries in Quicken to word processing to editing home digital video movies.
Memory: The a310n comes with a 256 MB built-in memory (DDR SDRAM, 266 MHz), which is calling out for more power right out of the gate. It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 1 GB. It also has an L2 cache of 512 KB.
CD/DVD Drive: It is equipped with separate drives for DVD playback and CD writing. The DVD-ROM drive can read discs at 16x speed (the standard speed for DVD movie playback), while the CD-R/W drive offers a high-speed 48x (read)/24x (rewrite)/ 48x (write) capability.

Sound and Graphics
The a310n features audio and video cards that are integrated into the computer's main board. The sound card uses the AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) standard and is configurable with up to 6 speakers (5.1 channel audio). If you are looking for a good intro to HDTV, this is it. I shopped for 2 weeks online to find the best TV to replace my 10-year old Magnavox. After lots of searching, I narrowed it down between the Toshiba and the Sony. Both were 36", and that seems to be the size limit for a regular tube (CRT) flat screen. Any bigger, and you'll have to switch to plasma or LCD (and big $$$). The Toshiba wins out over the Sony for expected life-span, but the Sony gets better marks for picture quality according to many on-line experts. So, the Sony is more, but better picture. The Toshiba is a little less, and the picture might not be perfect. Personally, I looked at both and couldn't detect a difference. HOT TIP: I found the Toshiba 36HF73 at Costco for $999. (...)

Set up was very easy, and it interfaced with my DVD, VCR and satellite (Dish DVR) no problem. The picture on regular tv (non-HDTV feed) is really good, and on DVD it is totally fantastic. Menus are intuitive, and overall the tv functions great and didn't have that "why can't I get this to work?" frustration period I frequently have with other high-tech items.

I am very pleased with this new tv, and I would be surprised to find someone who has a serious problem with it. As far as the other reviewer's problem with the curved horizontal line, I have not found this on my set.

My only negative on the tv is the weight. This sucker weighs 200lbs. Make sure you have an adequate stand and have plenty of beer on hand for the help you will most certainly need wrestling it into place.

I looked high and low, and I could not find a better rated 36" CRT flat screen, and the price is nice too.

Stuck with a inferior product.......2004-05-24

Amazon did a good job of getting this television to me. However, the picture set up is not good. The pictures bows from the center to the edges. A straight line towards the top or bottom of the screen noticebly bends to the corners. It becomes even more noticable in the HDTV 16x9 mode. I have had it serviced by one Toshiba authorized repair shop. The service technician told me there was nothing he could do after bringing it into their shop. I will try other repair shops, for $1400 the picture should be perfect. If I had purchased locally I would return the TV, but Amazon does not allow returns on large TVs.
The final word from Amazon customer service and Toshiba: I have spoken with the Toshiba technical support and they have informed me that this is a normal occurance and that the bow affect you are experiancing is a common in this type of TV and that it is within their specifications.

Therefore, the Toshiba 36HF73 36" Flat-Screen HD TV is not defective and we will not be able to offer further assistance or allow the TV to be returned for a refund.

Awesome -- HD TV Monitor........2003-11-12

Bought Toshiba 36HFX73 (cinema Series and upgrade over 36HF73) after lot of research. HD Monitor is better than projection technology (Plasma & LCD are too $$). I narrowed down btw Sony, Toshiba and Samsung. Toshiba is very good even in analog signals (std cable, VCR Tape) compared to sony. Samsung doesnt have 36inch. It took 20 minutes to install and connect. It has extremely good picture quality and DVD's are awesome. Lot of features. Great buy.

Just got this set. It is truly awesome. Using a Progressive Scan DVD player w/ Monster Cables (Component) & it looks GREAT!
Got the HD set top box from my cable company: FANTASTIC I recommend this TV over the Sony XBR given the price. You'll need a home theather set up for sound, as this one, while good, will sound even better hooked up to a system! Surround sound is pretty cool. I thought sound was coming from another room on some movies. Used Monster Cables for Set-top box too. You can tell difference between regular DTV & HDTV. Some analog channels look out-right awful, but that's the signal! TV is GREAT!
