Considering today's rapidly evolving standards of micro-miniaturization, the Presario 2545US is average sized at 12.96 by 10.72 by 1.79 inches and 7.5 lbs. It is, however, speedier than the notebook norm. Incorporating a powerful 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with 512 KB of Level 2 cache, 512 MB RAM (expandable to 1024 MB), and an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset with 64 MB shared memory, the system will outperform many desktops. It should suffice for most 3-D applications too, although ultra-complex 3-D games and animation/drawing packages may exhibit frame rate slowdowns.

With the Presario 2545US, you'll have little trouble storing and handling your data. Included in the unit is a large and accommodating 60 GB hard disk, a 3.5-inch diskette drive for older or smaller programs and quick backups, and a combination DVD/CD-RW drive for burning audio or data CDs or watching the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Noisiest laptop I have ever heard.......2003-07-13

It was very disappointing when I first got the Compaq Presario from Frys Electronics. It was extremely noisy. And this noise from the fans never turns off. Each time when I turn on the computer, I cannot wait to finish my work and turn it off to gain my peace back. However, my husband liked the fast processor and the multifuntion capabilities. Therefore, I did not return it back to the store right away. Unfortunately, when I try to burn a CD for the first time with the preinstall software, the CD writer broke. Now, it is too late to return to the store. I really regret buying it.

Multimedia powerhouse, slow hard drive, SXGA is too much.......2003-04-27

I'll give the bad news first:

BAD
1)one thing they don't tell you in the general specs is that the hard drive operates at only 4200 rpm -- which is noticeably slower than my previous laptop for copying files.

2)SXGA: it sounds great to have such "HIGH RESOLUTION." However, I find this resolution to be *too high*; I'm only in my early 20's and I consider my vision to be pretty good. The text and icons are way too small for me at such high resolution. And, when you set the resolution to 1024x768, it looks quite bad. This is because the monitor is designed with the optimal resolution in mind (mine looks best at 1400x1050). However, Windows XP Pro does allow you to change some advanced settings to make things appear bigger by increasing the dpi of the screen. So, if you're comfortable playing with those settings, it's generally not so bad.

GOOD

Fast processor, plenty of USB ports, firewire is a plus. Everything seems to work, for now. Luckily I have a firewire drive with all of my multimedia content on it, which makes a big difference in the speed since the hard drive is so slow. It's definitely tolerable for the average user.

All in all, a pretty sweet machine for a reasonable price compared to other brands with similar specs.

Double trouble.......2005-09-20

I could not get this DVD writer to work. You need a USB 2.0 standard and I do not have one on my older computer. I'm not sure if that requirement was in the fine print at the time of purchase. Also I could not get the firewire connection to work.

Tech support was fair at best.

a total disaster.......2005-07-28

There were several problems with the product I received:

1. no power cord. I had a spare, so I used my own. I connected the drive to a USB port, used the DVD drive to install the software and everything seemed fine. Until...

2. the drive wouldn't recognize any DVDs. I tried two Verbatim DVD+R discs and neither was recognized. So, I got a commercial video DVD and a DVD-R produced by a friend. Nothing.

3. I called the Amazon partner dealer who sold me the drive. They said that they have had a lot of returns on this piece. Mostly due to the missing power cord, but the rep didn't know whether anyone else had gotten a DVD drive that wouldn't even recognize DVDs.

They're sending a UPS return label and I'm returning it.

The price was right at the time unfortuntly bought it before realizing it that it came in S709 version at 16x for few dollars more.. Drive is great no real issues so far drive lives up to expectation at burning at 8x at USB 2.0 Win XP. eager to test it in my laptop.

Amazing!.......2004-09-09

I have been looking for a quality 8x writer, and then has been the best I have seen. I work with a local editing company in Indiana, and I needed a personal burner and this one is top notch. In a matter of 5 minutes it was hooked up, and I had burnt my first home movie in 15-20 minutes. I was shocked at how quick and easy this product was. I use my PC firewire port, with a combonation or 8x and 4x DVD-r media and I am very happy with my purhcase. I reccomend it too all.

Dont throw away your money!.......2007-04-02

I thought I was going crazy... but now I know.
I had one for about a year and a half when it went dead with similar power problems. I went and bought another thinking it was an issue with the power in our guest room. The second (later model) lasted just a few months! What a waste. Toshiba will be loosing a lot of loayal cutomers.

13" & 20" Toshiba T.V./DVD Televisions.......2006-11-25

One year ago I purchased two Toshiba T.V./DVD Combo's. The 13" was for my kitchen and the 20" for my grandsons to use with their Gamecube and be able to enjoy watching selected DVD's. In one year both T.V.'s absolutely shut down. There was no power to either of the T.V.'s. I tried everything including contacting Toshiba with no luck. I was told to take the units to a repair shop, of course with no warranty what so ever. I know the cable did not have a surge to fry these units because my old Phillips was on the same line and is still doing great. These T.V.'s were each on separate lines for electricity, one in the kitchen and one in the guest bedroom. Toshiba use to be a great product. NO MORE. THEY ARE JUNK.

My review will continue along the same vien as the rest: JUNK AFTER 90 DAYS! Warning to potential buyers-- there are power problems with this tv -- the power light comes on for a nanosecond than fades and the TV does not work after several months. If don't mind losing $175 in Vegas, this tv is for you. I would not buy this TV/DVD combo.

Toshiba Junk!!.......2006-02-21

I am having the same power problems. I called Toshiba, spent 20 mins on hold then was transferred to someone else only to have my call dropped without speaking to anyone about my TV. I called back and spent about another 15 mins on hold before speaking to someone who told me it was probably the powerboard. The part alone costs over 100$. This TV is not even worth fixing. The Toshiba company has poor customer service and I will NEVER but Toshiba anything ever again!

I've had the TV longer in working condition--a year and a half--and one day, nothing, Power light goes on for a flicker, then out. It's dead. Won't buy Toshiba again. Spread the word.
