Worst printer I have ever used.......2007-01-31
This is definitely the worst printer I have ever used, and I used to work for a company that developed printer driver software, so I have some experience in the area. Our office has an HP Color LaserJet 4600dn, and it's been nothing but trouble.
First, the JetDirect network card failed. HP did replace this, as it was a known defect (our HP LaserJet 2300dn had the same model JetDirect network card, and it also failed). Then, the printer started producing streaks and smears of toner in a variety of colors, usually either cyan or magenta. At first, we thought it was just defective toner cartridges (we always used genuine HP supplies), so we called HP. They replaced them once or twice, but were less than helpful about the large amounts of spilled toner inside the printer (they said they'd send a special cloth to clean up the toner, but never did).
Eventually, the problem got so bad we started shopping for a new printer. While doing research, I stumbled upon a discussion claiming that the magenta toner smearing was a known problem, and the fix was to replace the DC Controller in the printer. Why HP didn't tell us that, I don't know. I called them again and convinced them to send a technician to replace the DC controller. That helped for a few months, then the cyan toner started smearing. Replacing the cyan toner didn't resolve the problem.
We're now back on the market for a new printer, and we're definitely avoiding HP. They had so many chances to resolve this problem, and they blew it over and over again.
HP 4600 Expensive, Worst Investment, NO HP Support.......2007-01-19
My department has had this printer for a few years and for the last year it sat unused because the toner leak problem "renders" it useless. We have even used it a few times with the smears and it developed a horrible noise. We paid to have it cleaned and adjusted, which worked for a month. We cannot afford to pay this much again for so little productivity. My opinion is that HP should have had a recall on this model. I really like HP a lot but will question HP in the future and am now looking at reviews of other printers before we consider replacing the useless behemoth. Very, very disappointing. [if zero stars was an option here it would get it]

Made a mess inside the printer and cost $600 in parts alone to repair. Just learned by reading these reviews today that magenta barf is a "normal" experience for users of this printer, so we should have just tossed it.
Wide Multi-Color Page Streaks Render Printer USELESS........2006-10-18
Printer has had very light use and suddenly developed mostly magenta & cyan toner leaks. The excess toner is streaked and transfered to every page resulting in full length page striping. The print outs are absolutely useless for presentation and barely useable for drafts. HP denies there is a problem however I see that I am not the only one with this issue. Won't buy HP again. This is clearly a defective product design. There is no resolve. Your printer is now an expensive and rather large doorstop.
HP has lost me as a customer.........2006-09-29
I'm a cartoonist. I need to be able to print color images for clients. I bought this printer two years ago from Staples, for $2500! Worked great for a couple months, after which the toner cartridges started leaking and the print quality rapidly dimished.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!
I'm reluctant to buy anything else from HP, knowing that how it performs on the sales floor can be markedly different from how it will perform after a couple months of light use.

I bought this mp3 player and when i put an mp3 cd in, it took a very long time to play the song, and sometimes it wouldnt even play it at all. I was ver dissapointed, especially since it cost me $70.And then after about 8 or 9 months, it just wouldn't turn on. 2 stars for car kit and good "normal cd" player (for 8 months)
LOVE IT.......2003-07-31
I had purchased 2 Philips CD players a little less than 2 years ago and for the wear and tear that my boyfriend and I put them through they lasted & we really got our money's worth. I didn't have any kind of worries in buying another Philips product, however I was leery of the MP3 player part. Prior to my last CD player purchases I had bought an MP3/CD player combo that just was awful built by memorex. The sound quality was poor, and the CD player was laggy to get it going when you first switched the mode from MP3 to CD, so I wasn't sure I was going to like this model, but seeing as though it was from Philips and I had good luck with them in the past I figured I'd give it a try. I purchased the product and immediately was pleased with it because it had many of the same features that my elder Philips CD player had such as the anti-skip, the belt clip, the buttons were all in about the same place, bass & double bass modes etc. As time has gone on I have had my player for a little over a month and I'm very pleased. I have told all of my friends and family about this marvelously pleasing purchase and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for this type of audio entertainment.
The EXP503 is a poor choice!!.......2003-04-14
Pros: Lots of accessories, backlit lcd, reads ID3 tags, great ESP.
Cons: Backlit lcd, no line-out, hardware glitches, lack of quality control.
Summary: I have owned this unit roughly a month. It has wayyy too many things wrong with it for me to justify the price. One, it has no line-out, which is unforgivable, and the headphone jack is on the front which makes it impossible to mount in a car and make it look good. It also gets really hot underneath when the dc power supply is used. The LCD is backlit blue and looks good, but is really hard to read off-axis. The backlight turns on for about 4 seconds when you push buttons, and then turns off. I think they should have a backlight switch so you dont waste battery this way. The backlight quit working a week ago, so its a moot point anyway. The buttons also beep when you push them, something I find annoying, and the unit beeps when you pause it, something I also find aggravating. The point of pausing it is to NOT hear anything. The unit's headphone jack is also incapable of driving higher-impedance headphones like my Sennheiser 535s, so you are forced to use more efficient ones (like the crappy supplied earbuds). One of the most aggravating things wrong with it is this glitch in the ID3 reader that takes the last part of whatever the artist's name was before the artist name that you are viewing, and tacks it onto the one you are viewing; if the first artist you viewed was Matchbox 20, and the current one is REM, the ID3 readout will say REMchbox 20. The unit also has a display switch, but it doesn't remember your choice, thus, it displays this unneccessarily long filename whenever you switch tracks. The ergonomics are poor, and are hard to use if you use the belt clip. The ESP also turns on whenever you turn the player on, which wastes batteries if you forget to turn it off. The volume control is also recessed, which makes it hard to adjust, and the thing blows through batteries like nobody's business. You can expect maybe 6 hours on standard alkalines.
So what's good about this player? Not much. The backlight looks cool (when it works), and the player has good skip protection even when the ESP is off. It does read ID3 tags, and the belt clip is cool. Since I am currently on my second player, which also does not function properly, there is no way I can recommend this unit. I actually liked the player when it worked, but it has too many unforgivable flaws to be sold as a production unit.
Sweet.......2002-05-29
Terrific unit. I had the old Expanium and it stopped working form me. Phillips sent this one as a replacement and I would recommend it to anyone. It finds songs quickly, the display is top-notch, and there is no dispute over sound quality.
Great for OTR.......2002-05-15
I bought this so I could listen to Old Time Radio shows on MP3 CDs. Thus far it has been able to recognize and play every different CD I tried. The sound quality is excellent.
I only rated it 4 stars because there are several annoying shortcomings that quickly become apparent. Probably the biggest is the peculiar way the "resume" feature works. The problem is this feature only works when the power is on. So even though I have the car kit which lets the player run off the car's power, I still need to remember to stop play and then turn the unit off. Were I to simply turn the car off, the resume feature wouldn't work.
The other big annoyance is with fast forward or reverse. They are simply too slow to be of much use.
