I bought the big brother version of this unit and most of it worked except for burning CDs & DVDs. After hours of calls via India and several US location, my machine will not even recognize the drives. This is all after sending the CPU back to HP to fix and it still came back broken. They now want me to wipe 9 months of data and start new, and then send it again to HP. They will make no commitments as to how many times I will have to return it for repairs. They are just stalling for the warranty expiration. Totally unethical!

M7260 Photosmart Pent D Review.......2006-02-01

My HP Photosmart PC works like a charm. I've had it for about 4 months now and it is flawless. If you can take advantage of the features avaliable such as: Media Center, Memory card slots (CF, SD, etc), Great Graphics (the provided ATI Radeon x350 does the job and more), Litescribe Burner, Dvd Burner, Dvd Player, and much more, then this product is for you.

Things you can do with XP Media Center-
-Play movies from a distance, yes that includes dvds (w/ the indcluded remote control SPECIFICALLY for the computer)
-Watch live tv (through a connected coax cable)
-Record live tv and watch it whenever you want
-Get an actual cable guide right on the computer (it downloads the program guide from the actual tv station)
-Listen to the radio
-View pictures
-I'm sure there is more I am leaving out

Specs:
(side note: everything is upgradable)
There are no complaints in this department. The Pentium D processor does exactly what is expected of it, runs flawless. The ram is the standard 1GB you get with any PC purchase. The hardrive space is -plenty-. And trust me, if you're recording your favorite shows left and right... you'll need the space.

--Final thoughts

I've listed many of the pros, but here are a few cons (very minor flaws)

-There is lots of preinstalled software one could do without.
Fix: Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs

-The format XP Media Center records videos to is a large file type.
Fix: There are plenty of programs out on the web that can convert the XP Media Center recorded TV files into avi, mpg, etc. Just "Google it".

-If you are recording shows and want to save them forever, you may run into hard drive space issues.
Fix: Buy an extra hardrive (easily installable, it slides right in through the front) or read the fix above to solve hd space issues.

End Cons.

That's about it folks. This PC is made for the video/tv show/picture viewing consumer. This PC is -NOT- for the average computer user that just wants a computer to browse the internet with.

Oh and by the way, to all the gamers out there, this is a great gaming PC. (the video card is upgradable, of course.)

HP Media Center m7260n.......2006-02-01

My computer shipped about a week EARLIER than I expected. Unfortunately, it came preloaded with soooo much extra junk - games, trial programs, miscellaneous internet provider links etc, that it does not seem to run that much faster than my old AMD Athlon 900 mHz processor. The Media Center features are cool, especially since you can use the remote. I do find the My Music feature to be rather cumbersome, but then again, I haven't read the manual on how to do it properly, either! I think that if an advanced user has trouble with initial setup, then a rookie will have bigger troubles.

Quality for a good price........2003-05-29

I purchased one of these APs about a month ago and it has worked flawlessly. The web gui is remarkably easy to use and the setup could not be easier. The security features are excellent and when coupled with a VPN gateway, can secure your home LAN wonderfully.
I did have an issue with my 2.4 gig phone at first. Whenever it would ring I would lose connectivity to the AP. I changed the default channel in the AP and it now has no issue with my phone.
My apartment is not huge but I get full strength in all 4 rooms and outside on my deck. I kind of like the shark fin design too!

Great product, reasonable setup, good security.......2002-12-21

When you pair this gateway with an Orinoco Gold wireless PC card, you've got a quality system (I'm using it to write this review). Setup is fairly easy, even for beginners. The integrated wizard is easy to navigate. Advice: do a little homework...most of the advanced features such as security are not on by default, and they take a little concentration to set up correctly. The integrated help screens are good, but they assume you understand concepts like WEP 128, SSID broadcast, and network names. You'll need to deal with them if you want a secure network (trust me, you do). It's not difficult, but it requires attention to detail (as with all network setups). The documentation is adequate, but not what I would call comprehensive. Be sure you get the latest drivers and firmware for both the gateway and the cards. The enhanced WEP+ security is a nice feature. The first time you connect to the Internet from the other end of the house, you'll be glad you bought this one. Solid and a lot of fun to use!

I being using a BG-2000 since it was released on Jun 1, 2002. I waited for it because it uses WEP+ encryption, which provides better security that regular WEP when paired with an Orinoco (I purchased Gold) PC Card. -- WEP+ is proprietary, and compatible with the WEP standard, but only provides full strengh protection when the connecting client also supports it.

The performance is excellent, even when using 128-bit WEP encryption. The range is great--It works across walls, and has no problems with my 2.4GHz (MA-351) Motorola cordless phone, and has no signal interference with my microwave oven. I also got a PowerMac G4 with an airport card, which also works well with it--I admit to have followed the airport setup to use a dollar sign at the beginning of the WEP key.

The help screens have been much improved with the latest (1.1.1) firmware update, but some (like Port Filtering:Entry) are rather verbose and do not explain the settings options well. A turn-down considering the weak 30 days support.

Would I buy it again? Yes.
Is there a better product in the price range? No if security is a concern.

Lots of bang and thump for your buck!.......2002-04-13

My family and I could not have picked a better receiver for our first foray into the world of home theater. Installation was a breeze, and all of the knobs, switches and connectors are clearly marked to ensure that mistakes are minimized. Set up/configuration was easy - just follow the instructions in the manual, and either interface via the remote control or the knobs on the actual component. We were able to set AM/FM presets, sound levels for each of our 6 speakers, brightness of display, etc.

The Onkyo works with DTS, Dolby Digital, and Dolby ProLogic II sources, so this base is covered well. There are several pre-set audio configurations that allow users to select the best sound depending upon the type of material. For example, "Orchestra" directs the sound to the two front speakers, and optimizes the sound of symphonies. "Stereo" sends the signal to the two front speakers and to the subwoofer, for sound that will shake your room. It is very easy to find a preset that meets your needs.

The sound this receiver helps to pump through our Polk Audio speakers is amazing. Firing up "Saving Private Ryan," and watching the opening sequence is absolutely incredible. I was ducking as the sound of bullets went whizzing through the speakers (not kidding)!!

My only beef is with the "learning" remote control. I have had difficulties in getting the "macros" to work. Everything else with this product was easy to set up and configure, so this was somewhat of a let down.

Remote control issues aside, this is a terrific piece of equipment for the price. I strongly recommend taking a step up from other brands to the Onkyo. Although a name not exactly in the mainstream, we remain pleased after almost one year of ownership.

Excellent Sound and Features.......2002-01-12

I bought this receiver to replace a 6 year old Sony (STR-D915). I had no idea what I was missing! The sound quality of this Onkyo absolutely kicks butt on the Sony. I am extremely pleased with it. For both music and home theater the sound is excellent.

One important feature on this unit: it has A+B speaker switching. A lot of receivers these days don't. If you want to drive speakers in another room you will want this.

The setup features on this unit are nice and easy to access via the remote or the front of the unit. The remote, by the way, is very good and has learning capability.

Features I like:

Intellivolume - Allows you to adjust +/- 12 dB the volume of the various audio inputs. So like on my setup where the TV input is, for whatever reason, a lot quieter. Now I can adjust that out to be equal to the other inputs.

Volume Start and Max Volume - I have kids that like to turn knobs. Occaisionally with my old Sony I'd fire it up only to have my eardrums rocked because my 2 year old had cranked it all the way to the right. With the Onkyo, I can set the volume that it will always start with, and I can also set the max volume. The unit can't be cranked any higher than that setting.

Speaker volumes - You can independently adjust the volume of each speaker (5 channels plus sub)and keep it that way. So if you have an assymetrical speaker setup, you can compensate for it(...)
