The Basics
- Hard Drive: The very roomy 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing up to 170 hours of television programming, a vast multimedia collection, or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Processor: The 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium D 920 dual-core processor is one of the strongest processors currently available (as of December 2005). You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. A hyperthreading processor helps a PC run several demanding applications at the same time. Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video and graphics are powered by the Nvidia GeForce 6200SE, which delivers enhanced visual quality and performance for todayÕs and tomorrowÕs graphics-intensive digital photo, video, and gaming applications. It offers up to 256 MB of shared video ram (allocated from the system RAM) and Nvidia's exclusive TurboCache technology, which allows direct rendering from the GPU to system memory by leveraging the bi-directional PCI Express bandwidth. The TurboCache Manager dynamically allocates memory for maximum system performance while intelligent software algorithms maximize application performance. Don't buy this model.......2003-09-08
Don't buy this model from Panasonic. I wish I'd read all these reviews about this model. This is really a piece of junk. It won't accept any tapes after using it only for 6 months! The whole mechanism of tape accepting mechanism has somehow stopped aall of a sudden. I used have another panasonic model before this one, which worked for almost 4 years without any trouble. So I don't blame all their model, but this one with all fancy looks and options reminds me of aan old proverb 'all that glitters is not gold'.
piece of junk.......2003-05-16
Do not buy this VCR. I had this one for six months, and had trouble with VCR not accepting tapes. Cover where tapes are put in came off. I sent it back to Circuit City, and bought a Sony.
Bad tape handling mechanism.......2003-05-06
After having this machine less than a year, the machine would no longer accept tapes. I was very frustrated in my attempts to get it fixed (it would cost more than the machine originally cost to get it fixed by the company), and service centers are very scarce where I live (downtown DC). I am very disappointed with the quality of this machine.
A VHS VCR of good value!.......2003-02-20
For the price I consider this a good value VHS VCR. Picture quality on playback is as good as any unit I have seen. The record/playback quality is not as good as some Sony units and that is one reason it only gets 4 stars. The transport works well. The stop to start times run between 2 and 4 seconds - depending on how long it is stopped - not bad. Rewind/fast-forward handling seemed gentle enough. Sometimes it auto plays a new tape and sometimes it doesn't; never figured out why. Picture quality of the tuner from channel 2 to 78 was as good as a Sony XBR TV. I could not check out the auto clock set since our cable provider doesn't support. I also did not check out the commercial advance feature. However, the movie advance does work quite well-it's almost like magic; only works through the remote and is fairly hidden. There is some breakup in the picture during search (not too bad through) and pause frames are almost perfect - a small amount of breakup at the very bottom of the picture. The other reason for only 4 stars is that the tape counter does NOT show on the unit display ever, but only on the on-screen display; and that only during play/record and fast-forward/rewind - not search. Not that it would bother everyone, but the remote control has very small, closely spaced buttons except for the transport controls which are logical and large enough. The worst buttons are the channel and volume controls - placement, size and spacing are very bad - maybe another 4 star reason. The unit controls are power, eject/stop, record, play, rew/back-search, fast-forward/search which is nice. Played a dozen or so pre-recorded tapes, an equal mix of commercial and my own recordings, so far and the unit has handled them all with good picture quality.
Severely Ripped off by Panasonic.......2003-02-07
I purchased this VCR only in October, thinking that it was a good brand name and good-quality VCR. From the start, this VCR gave me problems. For one thing, it won't accept all tapes - I am not talking about old, dirty tapes either, but a brand new video type could be put in there and it wouldn't accept it. That was just the start...as time went on, the heads quickly wore out (I hardly use this VCR) and suddenly I started hearing some very strange noises when I would go to play or rewind, etc. telling me that it was time to throw this piece of junk out. Oh, aside from that, disturbance is shown at the top of the screen for every single video tape, or I will put in the video and the whole screen will be skewered until I take it out and put it back in. It does this when I rewind or fast-forward

After having to deal with a defective memory stick from Kingston I went on a search to find a better one. (Kingston is a horrible company to deal with when you have a defective item). I bought the Kingston for dirt cheap at circuit city, and quickly realized why it was so cheap compared to other similar memory sticks. I was more than happy to try out PNY. It was easy to install and worked perfectly. I have had it for several months now and have had absolutely no problems with it.

I installed the 512 MB memory upgrade with no problems. The enhanced performance that resulted was more than I hoped. As they pack more features into ever larger programs, you find your memory shrinking and speed decreasing. Try a memory upgrade. It seems like the price keeps dropping.

I am using one PNY 512 DDR DIMM PC3200 for couple of days now in my DELL DIMENSION 4600 boasting the total RAM to 1 GB and so far working perfectly okay. Hope it will work that way in long run.
