We have had this computer since 2003. It has gone around the world literally and back again. We have had to send it back to Hewlett Packard only once and that was because the keyboard and mouse and hard drive all went out at the same time. They replaced it all and sent it back to us. It was like a brand new computer after that. Since then we have had to change the hard drive one more time but that was due to a virus that infected our computer. Otherwise, I would say this is a great computer we have more then gotten all of our money out of it. I am sure it will last us even more years to come. We bought a brand new computer last year and now it has stopped working due probably to a virus also. We have virus protection on all of our computers but there are just some viruses that seem to make it through no matter what. I would highly recommend this computer if I could get a hold of another one. I would love to have another one. This is a very much a five star computer.

What a deal!.......2003-06-11

This is the first Laptop or Notebook I have owned. So far I have been satisfied with this model. I have not had to deal with tech support yet, and hopefully I won't.

I bought this unit so I could run Architectural Desktop 2004 (A CAD software package), and so I could play games in my spare time. It achieves both of these quite well. ADT 2004 is quite a hog, but still runs very well. I have played Grand Theft Auto - Vice City, Links 2003 and Nascar 2003. They all played very well. I had some problems with Links 2003, but I updated it and now it seems to work ok.

CD burner seems to be pretty fast, DVD drive works great, and music ripping is also very fast. No complaints here.

The touchpad is kind of wierd, but works well when you can't use a mouse. The keyboard feels nice, even though the keys are a little stiff.

The 15" screen is very nice! Very clear & crisp.

The hard drive is fairly fast, and pretty quiet.

Wireless ethernet works well with a D-Link 604+, and the standard ethernet port is very fast.

I replaced the XP Home with XP Pro, no problems there.

Battery lasts around 2 hours for me, depending on the tasks. Haven't tried playing a DVD for the life of the battery yet.

It seems rather heavy, but I don't have experience here. With a nice bag that has a shoulder strap, it isn't so bad.

In summary, I would buy another one, and would also consider using it as a desktop with additional keyboard, mouse and possibly external screen.

I would give it 5 stars, but I haven't dealt with tech support yet. Besides, nothing's perfect!

HP ZE4365US + Linux == Powerful Portable Workstation.......2003-05-26

I've only had it for a couple days, but here are my initial thoughts and observations regarding the HP ze4365us. It's currently running Mandrake 9.1 and Win XP.

Good keyboard layout. Has CTRL and ALT keys on each side of the keyboard (not symmetrical though). The power button is very close to the escape key, VI users beware.

Heat. The fan is a little loud for my liking, but hey, what do you want, from a fast computer? The bios seems to have no provision for under-clocking, which would sure be a nice feature. The cold air intake is in a poor location as well. It is on the bottom and easily blocked if you set the notebook on a soft or uneven surface. It runs hot enough that you'll want to set it on something other than your lap anyway.

Short battery life. Again, with this much computing power you can't ask for much more. It doesn't seem to last much over an hour for continuous use. I'd be surprised if you could watch a full DVD on the battery.

Software bundle. Ships with Win XP (yuck) taking up the whole 40G partition. Thankfully, HP included a real Win XP install disk, in addition to the normal rescue disks. The disk will install to a more appropriate sized partition, making room for an alternative opeating system or a more thoughtful partitioning scheme. They also included a cd version of Roxio and a DVD program I haven't used. Kudos to HP for giving me a way to avoid having to resize a NTFS partition.

Wireless. The included Orinoco PCI wireless ethernet was easy to set up and use.

Display. I really like the display! It's large and does not cause eye strain. I have had problems with other laptops over this in the past.

Firewire. The single Firewire (ieee1394) port is a mini. Cables are a little harder to find and more expensive.

Other notes. It doesn't have a floppy drive. Red Hat 9 loaded the wrong keyboard which halted my install process. I didn't mess with trying to find the correct argument to pass to the kernel. Mandrake 9.1 had no such problem, and I've wanted to try it anyhow. PCMCIA caused my boot to hang under Mandrake 9.1. I just turned it off because I have no need for it. I haven't tried to set up the modem either. The volume controls don't respond well with either OS. I much prefer the traditional wheel for volume.

We have owned this machine for a couple of years now. It has proven to be superior to every answering machine we have previously owned in a very important respect: it still works as well as it did when we first installed it. It is adequate in every respect but one, which is only of interest to rural users: it does not have a battery backup for the time and date settings.

We live in rural Virginia, and the power fails fairly frequently at some times of the year due to ice storms, wind-blown tree limbs, etc. When this happens, the KXTM100B preserves our greeting and our messages, but we have to reset the time and day of the week. Until we do that (it is very easy to do), the unit does not record these with new incoming messages.

That said, the unit is, in every other respect, at the very least adequate, and in most ways excellent and easy to use. We have not had any of the negative experiences reported by others here.

Bottom line: knowing what we know, we'd buy it again.

I recently recieved and installed this answering machine for home business use. The sound quality appears quite good, but not perfect. My outgoing message is very clear, but has a bit of the "digital" feel to it. Incoming messages are as good as the incoming call. Calls from a cell phone with a poor connection, obviously, are not very good.

The connection and use of the machine is intuitive, and I am confused by earlier reviewers who complained of small buttons. I find them well labeled and easy to use. As you can see in the picture, the "New Message" button, used to play new messages, is in fact the largest button on the unit. Even the small buttons are well separated to make them easily accessed.

Hmmm.. All I can say is that I am quite pleased with the unit.

Good enough to delay buying a PDA .......2005-05-20

I bought my Oz750 in Oct. 2000 for $50.00. It has endured tropical humidity, extreme heat(inside a car), falls, and infrequent use and yet this little organizer reliably stored all of my important info, phone nos., addresses, and memos(birthdays,anniversaries). This little device kept the PDA fad at bay in my case. Finally, last year one of the "boards" burned out and a company in Texas fixed it without any loss of data. Yesterday, 05-18-05, a loss of battery power caused it to boot-up erratically and I accidentally erased/reinitialized the memory thus losing all of my data. The only reservation I have about the oz750 is the lack of data back-up/reliable PC link-up; otherwise, I'd buy another one. I finally relented and bought a PDA and I gave my oz750 away. It was the simple man's "pseudo-PDA".

LOVE this organizer... but problem with screen.......2003-11-05

Ok, this organizer kicks the crap out of all the others I have tried. Palm, Pocket PC, etc...

The problem is the screen goes bad. Vertical lines show up. I believe it must be too sensitive to heat. VERY VERY disapointing as this is by far the best organizer I have ever used.

Can anyone recommend a similar device without the screen problems???

Dying display + lousy company response = 1 star.......2003-08-20

I used to love this product--I even bought four as Christmas gifts! But never again. As another reviewer has complained, the display on my OZ-750 started losing vertical lines of pixels, beginning about 6 months after the 1-year warranty had expired. Eventually I won't be able to read the entries at all. So I called Sharp's technical support folks. I was hoping they'd say that since this is an ongoing and unresolved flaw that directly affects usability, they'd send me the latest model free of charge. Fat chance. They never even acknowledged that this is a recurring problem. Instead, after implying that it was probably my fault for exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, they gave me the number of a third-party repair center. The repair people told me that if the display is bad, the unit can't be fixed. However, if it's a bad circuit board, it can be fixed ... Forget it. I'm done with Sharp organizers. For a few bucks more, I'll buy a Palm.

Try it!.......2002-06-08

I'm on my second Sharp OZ-700 series organizer. I recently lost my first one.

This is a first rate product. I have average sized men's hands and I can touch type using the keyboard as long as I can rest the organizer on a flat surface.

The memo section is limited to 2k. And as another reviewer noted, it's annoying not to have warning when the limit is reached. But it's effortless to carry this 7oz organizer around all of the time. I often use the memo feature to take notes in lecture situations. I use it to compose letters outside the office. What makes all of this practical is that the organizer docks with any P.C. so it's easy to transfer data to my computer at work or home.

The reason I don't give the Sharp Wizard 5 stars is that the interface is kind of clunky. Another reviewer noted that if you have a reminder such as a birthday at the top, you have to scroll through the hours of 12 AM, 1 AM, 2 AM ... to 9AM to see the rest of your schedule for the day. With all due respect to the 3rd shift, I doubt many Sharp Wizard users are making appointments at 3 AM in the morning!

But here's a tip. When I have a reminder notice at the top of the screen on a particular day, I "book" an appointment that lasts from midnight to 8:00 called "sleep". This eliminates having to scroll to see appointments for that day.

The Sharp Wizard Series.......2002-02-18

I own one of Sharp's "Wizard" organizers. I would have to say that it is one of the most reliable organizers out there. One day about a year ago, I accidently droped the unit into a puddle. When I pulled it out of the water, I couldn't get to turn on. No matter what I tried, it wouldn't turn on. I thought that the water had shorted it out. After panicking and trying everything I could think off, I gave up and decided to discard the unit in order to purchase a new one.

When I went to the store, they were completely out of stock. I was really starting to get mad, mad at myself for being careless enough to drop the damn thing! Frustrated, I gave up. I put the organizer in a storage drawer and forgot about it. Two days later, I'm awakened in the early morning by a tel-tale beeping sound. It was the Wizard's scheduale alarm, I had set the scheduale for an appointment that I had that day. I had forgotten about the appointment.

I was under the impression that the organizer had shorted out, I WAS WRONG! Despite all it went through, it still worked. Apparently I only had to wait until it's circuits had dried up completely. When I checked the organizer, I found that all the data that was in it was still there. It didn't lose any data what so ever. Not even one entry, NOT EVEN ONE CHARACTER!! I would highly recommend the "Sharp Wizard" to anybody who is shopping for an organizer.
