The Basics

Hard Drive: The 40 GB hard drive offers plenty of space for most users, and is more than enough for typical data--from spreadsheets and word processing files to your digital snapshots and recorded music. However, if you have a large multimedia library, 40 GB probably isn't enough for you.
Processor: The AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ processor offers a 1.87 GHz speed, which is comparable to a 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor. This is more than enough power for standard computing tasks. With its "M" designation (for Mobile), this processor includes some power-saving features not found in the standard Athlon XP 2500+ processor.
Memory: The ze4610us comes with a 256 MB built-in memory (DDR SDRAM, 266 MHz), which is enough to get you started--but you'll want to add more memory to take advantage of multimedia programs and higher-end graphics tasks. It has a maximum memory expansion up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB). It also has an L2 cache of 512 KB.
CD/DVD Drive: It comes equipped with a combo DVD/CD-RW drive, which enables you to play DVD-ROM discs and DVD movies as well as burn data and record music to CD discs.
Keyboard & Mouse: The ze4610us has a full-sized 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys and two-button touchpad.

Sound and Graphics

Great computer for the average college student.......2007-01-10

I have owned this exact computer for 3 years now. The HD has gone bad once, and the onboard network card has died also. The HD crash on a laptop is understandable on something transported, and it was only $15 for a PMCIA network card, so not a big loss. Use the extra RAM slot add at least another 512 MB of ram, and as long as you aren't using this to play graphics heavy games you will be happy. I can play unreal 2004, quake 3, and call of duty, but not at great graphics level. Then again, if you want great graphics, you might as well buy a good desktop for games and a decent laptop for on the go work

A great buy - with some hidden features........2006-09-04

I don't know who would buy such a low cost laptop and then complain about shared video! Nice feature set and fast for the money. It is even internal wireless card "ready" with a slot next to the RAM on the bottom of the unit. This feature was not advertised. Add RAM! The 256MB it comes with does make it seem slower than it should. Adding 256MB more makes it really wake up and run well. I've had mine 2-1/2 yrs. Normal wear and tear and bumps cause hard disks to fail in any laptop, mine occurred just before 2 years. Glad my extended warrantee came in handy, but I've learned how easy it is to swap out hard disks and how easily they fail after a couple yrs, so I won't buy another extended warrantee again. Instead save the money for the repair you will have to do later. I like the quality of HP products and this is no let down as all the keys and mouse still work. I highly recommend finding low cost laptops like this one and test it at a store to see if it fits you. I did and I've been happy. Now my kid will get this handed down as I shop for my next HP laptop.

Crap: Video Card shares the RAM. .......2005-11-17

First I did not notice my missing RAM & then when I read the features, it was written as SHARED Video RAM.

The S-Video Card does not work with my TV - To make sure if it is my TV problem, I connected another Laptop to the TV, it works. So this S-video slot is peice of crap.

Boot: It takes "the-time-you-take-to-make-a-cup-of-tea-and-finish-it" before you boot & ready with working on the system

NO: built-in wireless card. All the PCMCIA cards that you buy wont last longer - thats stone age.

Bottom line: Move on and buy a better Laptop.

I have been using it for more than 1 year, it never gave me any problem, everything is great, runs fast and quiet. I upgraded it to 512ram memory, then it is quite amazing. Overall, it is great.

Can you say junk?.......2005-01-29

This machine has been VERY disappointing. When it runs, it's fine. It just doesn't run very often. Machine has been to HP for repair 3 times in the first 10 months I have owned it. Overheats and turns itself off, screen will go black if it is moved, mouse constantly freezes and locks and machine has to be rebooted. I've raised enough stink with HP they are replacing it with a higher end model a ZV. If you buy this machine due to it's attractive price, buy an extended warranty and be prepared to be without it often.

Save Your Money - Pass on this product - No Virgin Support.......2005-05-24

I have owned the product for less than 24 hours. I tried to get a users manual by contacting Virgin Pulse. The phone message said to contact Virgin Electronics via e-mail. I tried that and they pointed me to a web site for the user manual. Virgin Customer Support could not send me a user manual, even giving them my address in the e-mail. They did not answer my question about my 90 Day/1-year warranty. I was very disappointed in their Customer Support. There is no TV antenna in the box and the antenna that is on the TV is for the radio only. The screen display was too bright, even after selecting the Factory default setting. I had to go into Memory and do some changes to make it look somewhat viewable. If you can't get Customer Support for the Virgin product, what good is having a warranty. I am very disappointed in this product support - It's like Virgin doesn't care about the customer. I suggest you psss on any Virgin Electronics products for now.

Perfect for my family!! :).......2004-12-29

We have been looking for a portable tv and this one is just what we needed. It has an awesome surround sound built in to the body of it. And the picture is clear. We have 2 little kids and this is great for them. The LCD is big enough so they both can see it without having to strain. It also has a jpeg viewer so you can leave it on and have a slide show playing where ever you want. The cool thing about it is, it's just like a normal tv. Only you can take it where ever you go!! It's cable ready, car ready, wall ready, everything about it is convenient. We are very happy with it. I got a kick out of some of the reviews that said it was too bulky( It's not a laptop tv it's a portable tv). It's not too heavy, which makes for easy travel. You could have an arm full and still carry this tv!! Think camping, moving from room to room, over to a friends, in the kitchen, almost anywhere. Not recommended for smaller vehicles!!!

Purchased this compact TV/DVD/RADIO Player. I am very happy in general with it. It was purchased for my kitchen. It has great sound and the picture is clear-the screen is a bit small but thats o.k. However if I move around -from the side view it is not as clear as I would have liked but the picture is still visible.So over all I am quite pleased.

VIRGIN PULSE 10.4 Inch LCD/DVD.......2004-04-01

Checked this out as thought it would work well in home as well as car and the price was right. This product probably has the worst picture I have seen in a Lcd. Could not see a good picture at any angle, if you went one degree one way or the other, it would get blurry. Took it back after 2 minutes of use. I do give it two stars for fair value and decent audio.
