Great laptop if you don't try to update the BIOS.......2006-04-05
It's a great laptop but I had problems updating the BIOS. The system crashed and HP was of no help at all! Did some searching and found out this was a common problem. These guys helped get the system back up and running. Highly recommended!!!

Poor quality notebook - HP Pavilion 5375US.......2006-04-01
I've had the notebook about 3 years now and it was bought to be a desktop replacement, but I rarely use it - I use my desktops instead.
Exactly one month after the warranty ended (and after numerous system restores), the hard drive crashed. I replaced the hard drive and the next thing to go was the keyboard. The new hard drive has been in just over a year and it has crashed again and I only recently started using the notebook (about two weeks) after not touching it for about 6 months.
The wireless card doesn't seem to work even if the notebook is in the same room as the router. I used to use the network cable instead.
The battery lasts about 1 hour if you use your machine as an e-book reader.
This has to be one of the worst notebooks I've ever had/used. I've been very disappointed in its performance and will not even take a new HP notebook if it was being given away.

I have had the machine for about 6 months. First thing I did was wipe the OS and tried to install win2000 pro not knowing that HP didn't provide the drivers! I was *VERY* pissed to find out that they do not support them. HP is obviously in bed with Microsoft, and if I knew this ahead of time I would have never bought the machine. The nerve.....
IN any case, I agree that winXP home is complete crap. However, with all that said, after spending quite alot of time (15+ hours) installing XP and all drivers, and using the horribly inadequate networking features of XP to wireless communicate..... Once it was configured, the machine has been performing flawlessly.
I bought the machine for 2 reasons. The first is to write my thesis: alot of math modeling and data crunching, and the machine was not particularly fast. It is substantially slower than a 2.4GHz desk PC, but have not compared it to other laptops. The second reason was to use the new software synthesizers that are hitting the market using USB MIDI. It seems to function quite well, but chokes on very sample heavy sounds (meaning that the HD is a little slow and/or 512MB of memory is not quite enough) such as Steinberg's 'The Grand'. Also, for real-time sound applications, the built-in sound card has huge latency issues mainly due to non-ASIO drivers, but a quality sound card plugged into the PCMCIA bus works well.
All the peripherals are adequate.... and adequate is the key word. The CD, memory, HD are not top performers, but they are not terrible. The saving grace of the machine is the connectivity it offers: 3xUSB, firewire, modem, ethernet, wireless 802.11b, serial, printer, SVGA, IR, 2xPCMCIA slots. Not much more you can ask for in a laptop.
The batteries do not last long at all, well under 2 hours. This is personally not much of an issue, but is something to consider.
All in all, I am happy with the machine, but very unhappy with the operating system that was shoved down my throat....
HP Laptops Poor Quality, Poor Support.......2004-01-26
My HP zt1170 had the backlight on the LCD go out. Its just over a year old and just off warranty. They wanted almost $800 for the repair, but we settled for $577. Since that fix the LCD has failed twice and the hard drive crashed and had to be replaced. Fix #1 lasted 2 weeks. Fix #2 lasted only 2 months and they tried to stick me for another $649 by claiming I physically damaged/cracked the LCD which voided the warranty. Their word against mine, but I watched the LT fail each time and told them either they're lying or it was damaged in transit. I've spent countless hours on hold writing letters trying to communicate with Indian tech support with limited english language skills. I finally got them to repair my LT, but I feel like with the poor reliability history that its days may be numbered. If it dies again then I'm cutting my losses and scrapping it. HP is poor quality and support that at best is contemptuous of the customer
HOW to QUIET the FANS!!!!.......2004-01-17
I have read many reviews for this laptop and the number one complaint is how loud the fans are. This I agreed to..BUT...with the NEW BIOS UPDGRADE just released for this laptop, they are MUCH more quieter!..Seriously, you will be AMAZED at the difference! Simply go to the HP website and download the update for the BIOS and u'll be completely happy with this laptop if that was your only dislike, like it was for me until I updated. Now that they are quieter, this machine just AMAZES me. I HIGHLY recommend it!

What a piece of junk! Purchased last year - never worked right. Stopped working all together right before warranty ran out; emailed Philips and they never responded back. When we finally spoke with a representative they said the hard drive was shot. Needless to say I was furious with Philips until I read the other reviews - now I've seen the light! I paid well over $100 for this last year - it's much cheaper now - but don't be fooled! JUNK, JUNK, JUNK!!! It doesn't even rate 1 star...

I bought almost 6 month ago. But lost faith in this after couple of music transfer. I kept the same songs for almost 6 month only due to slow transfer rate and horrible software MusicMatch.
1. It won't let you transfer songs without connecting it to power using AC adapter.
2. you cannot edit title of songs, artist or any sort of things. It automatically picks something I didn't figured out yet. May be if u transfering from original CD it get correct information.
3. This non editing issue lead you to same file name for different songs. Since it does not recognise the same title is already there. ie. u may get. 3 entry as love for 3 different songs.
4. You can not simply drag the folders and get going with playlist names of that folder. You have to creat a playlist name and put songs under them. The entire process is so slow you get frusted in transfering music into this junk.
5. FM channel list gets reset.
6. You cann't do anykind of editing or deletion using unit itself. you have to plug it into computer and power to do anything.
7. Very funny: Even if you haven't created a playlist and put the songs just by dragging you will not be able to play songs.
8. If you have created a playlist and added songs into that. The same songs entry you will find in "All" which you cann't access from unit. Once you want delete the playlist it will just remove the name of playlist. your songs will be in "ALL".
9. I didn't like its earplug, odd design resulted in Bought new one. Since u can't interchange them between ears.
10. If u have draged one file, you have to wait till it finishes. you cann't put things in queue. same with deletion.
Overall this is junk and waste of money.

I bought my philips HDD070 about a year ago and now the thing is dead. When it did work, file transfers were incredibly slow. Also, the software that accompanied this ridiculous excuse of an MP3 player was awful. Every time I put an audio cd into my computer, the program would launch itself, often taking 2 minutes to simply open. I have a brand new lap top, so I doubt it was my computer. I have lost my faith in Philips - Never again will I have anything to do with them as far as MP3 players go.

I already own one of these Op/Tech Digital D Series Neoprene Pouches for my Fuji S7000 and will be buying a slightly larger one later this spring for my new Nikon D-200 DSLR. I could not be happier with the Op/Tech performance.
It is an excellent and rather inexpensive protection for those costly Digital SLR's. I use mine all the time and it's especially useful for traveling in the car rather than having the camera sitting out in the open as the Op/Tech pouch is simple to use and opens in a flash.
I give it a whole hearted 5 Stars for an excellent product. Check out the other products from Op/Tech as well, their straps and assorted other pouches make it easy to organize that camera bag!

I've been having problems with this card for a long time. VisionTek's website is hideous. There is nearly no information available on the website. The tech support is relegated to either an email which goes unanswered or a tech support number which is only available when you're not near your computer.
If good support is important for you, then take a pass on this company.

Bleeding edge graphics.......2002-09-29
This card is the fastest currently out as I write this review. That said, ATI has already announced their newest product, the Radeon 9700, will beat the Ti4600 and it's shipping soon. I caution those reviewers who say otherwise, preliminary tests on the 9700 indicate very strong performance. Not to worry nVidia owners, their next generation chip, the NV30, is on the way. And so it goes... Meanwhile, you're probably wondering if you should spend the money for this card. Perhaps this will help:
I'm currently running a Geforce 2 Ultra on a 1gig AMD Thunderbird system with 256K SDRAM. By todays standards that's pretty weak and any new system sold is probably much faster. This card is the current best of the best, yet the price is pretty steep too. Here's how the different cards will improve my system performance:

Keep in mind that these scores are on my fairly dated 1gig processor. Those of you with faster chips will probably show an even greater improvement with the faster cards. Regardless, I can still run all the games currently out without problems. This includes the (current) high performance games like Grand Theft Auto 3, Morrowind, Dungeon Siege, Wolfenstein 3D, etc. Once the newest crop of shooters like Unreal Tournament 2, Unreal 2, and Doom III come out I'll probably need to upgrade (but I can hope.)
Looking at the numbers, I can get a 50% improvement by upgrading to a relatively inexpensive Geforce 3, an 80% improvement by upgrading to a Ti4200 or Ti4400, or a 94% improvement by buying this card. I'll probably put my ego in check and save 1/3 the price by getting the ti4200 or ti4400 card over this card. My gut is also telling me prices of the ti4600 are going to drop rapidly once ATI's 9700 hits the shelves, but of course that doesn't help you if you're looking for a card right now. One last thing, as the scores indicate, don't make the mistake of getting a Geforce 4 "MX" card.
