Terrific laptop.......2004-06-10

I love my customized zt3010us notebook. I haven't had ANY issues with the wireless connection (you need to download all the necessary updates on the HP website for this model).

I did a lot of research and I definately did very well for myself. I also found a coupon online for 10% off my purchase and I ordered on the HP website, so I saved hundreds of dollars versus buying it locally.

My only complaint is the keyboard. The keys feel a little flimsey like they're made of cheap plastic. They probably are but I get the feeling that it will be the first thing to go.

I have owned my model for several months without issue. One other thing, when the laptop screen shuts off when you've left it idle, it flickers several times when you move the mouse. It takes 5 seconds of moving the mouse to get it to stop flickering and back to the screen you were on.

Otherwise, I love it and am very happy with it.

It a really great notebook the only reason why i didnt put five stars is because the poor audio it has, i can believe that an amasing notebook like this, has so poor sound. The performace of the centrino tc is really amazing and the battery last up to 5 hours with battery doubler.

Very nice system lousy software.......2004-03-14

I just got mine today. I was afraid that I would have trouble with the wireless connection. The trick is to go to HP's website and download the Intel PROset software utility. This will keep the wireless connection up and running correctly.

The other trick, if you are using MAC filtering, is to unscrew the little door under the system that is covered by the Windows license key label. This contains the wireless card and has a label with the MAC address on it.

So wireless works fine and reliably. Other than that, be sure to get a large case to hold the notebook. It is WIDE compared to other systems (at least the ones I am used to).

Addition: I just spent an afternoon trying to convert a VHS tape to DVD. I agree with another reviewer : the software that comes with the machine is really very bad. None of the software allows me to format in DVD-VR format for example. The InterVideo WinDVD creator refused to inport my MPEG file.

DON'T BUY THIS - HERE'S WHY.......2004-03-04

Wish I'd never bought this laptop. The latest video drivers available are March '03 and wont work with a lot of new software.

The up-to-date native ATI drivers wont work either as HP has customised the hardware.

And HP support were useless other than to confirm they have no plans to support/provide newer drivers.

Great notebook with a few minor drawbacks.......2004-01-18

I had been looking to replace my desktop with a laptop since the introduction of wide screen multimedia laptops in the past few years. I work with graphics and develop websites and I wanted a laptop that had to have a nice screen to create and edit vector graphics and photos. I also wanted one with a long battery life for those long trips by jet and train, and I didn't want a laptop that was going to break my back carrying it around.

The zt3010US has performed admirably since I purchased it just before Christmas. The battery has been good for up to two plus hours; the 15.4 inch screen is beautiful and does a great job with Photoshop CS and Macromedia Studio MX 2004 as well as playing ocassional DVDs. I often have several large applications running at the same time, like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Outlook Express, and the 1.5 Centrino processor and 512 RAM handles its well. The laptop also weighs in at a respectible 6.5 pounds, and with the power supply, Orinoco Silver wireless card (more on that later) and a Cat 5 cable, the total package weighs in at just under 10 pounds, making it bearable for lunging around to client visits and between my home and office.

The only things that keep me from giving this laptop five stars is the built-in Intel Pro 2100 Wireless PCI adapter and the poor software bundle. As another reviewer pointed out, the wireless card can be flaky. I have tried configuring it with both the Intel drivers and the wireless software built-in to Windows XP and it keeps dropping connections. I have called HP support on this issue and they don't have a clue about how to fix it. Fortunately, I have an Orinoco Silver 801.11b card from my previous laptop and it works great with the zt3010US.

As for the software bundle, the programs that come with the zt3010us are the worst I have ever encountered. Starting with Microsoft Works 7.0 to the standard and OEM versions of Microsoft Money, Quicken, and Roxio EZ Creator 6, I found each one to be worthless and have removed them. The only good program was the Norton Antivirus 2004, which is a 60 day trial version! Fortunately, most folks don't purchase computers for the software bundles.

But overall, this is a great laptop. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a powerful machine that can create graphics and is light enough to carry around all day.

My $400 VisionTek Experience.......2004-01-31

I previously purchased a VisionTek Ti500 for $400 when it first came out.

Within a few months, the fan failed and the card overheated. Rather then send me an RMA, they sent me a new fan without any instructions on how to replace it - it was no straightforward and the install chipped a ceramic on the board.

They replaced it with another card whose heatsink simply fell off of the card.

When I requested an RMA, they said that VisionTek had gone bankrupt and that they were the new VisionTek who was not required to honor the warranty. They offered me an upgrade option with several cards - all but one resulted in a higher price for the upgrade then to buy the card at Best Buy.

I offered them to exchange me their lowest-priced upgrade card, which would have cost me $40 (mind you, my original card was $400), or I would escalate and FedEx the company CEO at the following address:

Hartford Computer group, 1610 Colonial Parkway, Inverness, IL 60067

and post my experience on online store reviews.

They failed to respond in 2 days, so here is the result.

Please note that I am neither advising or dissuading anyone from buying their cards, but simply posting a truthful and unbiased account of my experience with VisionTek.

Geforce3 is old card, it was introduced in 2001 January.
The reason this card cost so much money because it last and OLd edition.
Very hard to find. And the price was not changed since this card was realised.
This is insane price, for old card and for 64MB.
Gefrorce4 is 100% better than this.
Don't buy this card, for sure the worst upgrade for your PC for this price, Unless this card would cost less than hundred dollars.

Great for playing todayýs top end games.......2002-07-16

The Geforce3 is my second GeForce video card. Both of them have performed excellent and have run the best games out there without any bugs (except for when the drivers became outdated). I made up my mind to purchase this video card shortly after I purchased the game "Morrowind", which was pushing my 2-year old, 32 MB Geforce2 to the limit, and then some. I was playing the game on moderate settings, and it was slowing down, becoming choppy sometimes. After I installed the GF3 (which was a snap), the game ran like a dream, with all of its beautiful environments and fantastic animation.

"Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast" is another game that I own which really pushes your video card to the limit. It too, looks great with this video card. I don't own "Grand Theft Auto 3", but I have read that it is another game that a card like the GF3 was made for. You can bet that we'll be seeing more and more games like this coming out. The point is, if you love great-looking games, then you'll want to grab this video card. If you are upgrading from an older card, then you will notice a difference in performance right away, even after you crank up the video settings a couple of notches.

Rodeon 8500 much better deal!.......2002-07-16

I just replaced this card with my old GF2 32MB GTS,with old card the image quality was not too good, and in most today games I had problems playing with 1600-1200 Resolution. Rodeon with 128MB is different issues, it killed my Old Geforce 2.and all Geforces 3 Overclocking is fantastic, the drivers are perfect with windows XP, I made compares ant to my buddy friend computer same CPU and he has Geforce 3 TI 500, and my card smoked his card in every aspect of benchmarks. He got so upset that he decided to sell his card. Yes indeed Rodeon 8500 128 DDR is the best money can buy, really good Performance!...
