The Basics

Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is one of the larger sizes you'll find in a notebook, and it's befitting of such an entertainment-centric PC. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library.
Processor: The hyper-threaded 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor allows a single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a 512 KB L2 cache and a blazingly fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate. A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (2 x 256 MB, DDR SDRAM) is a good start for power users, and it offers a faster than average RAM speed (333 MHz). I have had this computer a little over 9 months ago while IN FL and LOVE IT

Don't understand ALL the MB and GB stuff just went into the store told them I needed something I CAN USE IN MY CAR AND AWAY FROM HOME FOR MY BUSINESS and they sold me on this one

I split the year up between Fl and PA and the versatility it gives me not havng to change IP providers is great

I am very happy with this computer. I have owned Toshiba and a Dell before and none of them have been as good to me as this one has.

Pros: fast, plays 3-D games like they were meant to be played (much better than a celeron processor), good sound for a laptop (best i've heard so far), very clear screen, plays cds and dvds fast, great multitasking capabilities, good battery life, and nice to look at.

Cons: not the quietest machine-but it is not loud at all-just not quiet and it's a little on the thick side but it's also not as heavy as it looks.

Overview: Great desktop replacement and good for taking it around sometimes (not ALL the time). It's fast, reliable, and sturdy and doesn't get too hot on the bottom so you can sit it in your lap without having to worry about it burning you.

After reading the reviews, I was all set on purchasing this item - how could you go wrong for $6.19? Well, during checkout, standard shipping was $7.85 bringing the total to $14.04. I could walk down to my local store and get it for $10 myself. I guess I'm going to have to. Convenience isn't that expensive.

When the battery in my panasonic cordless phone went flat and would no lonegr hold charge I bough an aftermarket replacement. After 3 months the replacement was as bad as the battery I replaced. So far the Panasonic replcement has worked fine.

Picture tube went out under warranty. Was replaced. Stopped working (out of warranty) after 2 1/2 years.

Don't buy it........2002-12-27

It stopped working after only 15 months of use. It was turned off one night and won't turn back on. However it does emit a high pitched whistle if it's plugged in. No one from RCA will stand behind their product.

Using with Windows XP and no problmes.......2006-01-10

Windows XP rarely requires a driver for plug and play devices unless there are specfic features the manufacturer wants you to be able to access that the standard Windows XP drivers do not deliver.

The Siemens SpeedStream SS1012 is plug and play. I am using it right now on a Windows XP laptop. I elected to use the Siemens orginal driver disk and selected the Windows 2000 driver.

You get a warning message that the "Windows Driver is not signed....". Just ignore and keep going.

The card is fine. Compared to high end cards on the market it is - old technology.

It will work, problem free, driver installs easily. I would recommend a newer card.

Cons
The card is rather large and the face will cover both PCMCIA slots. The speed is limited to 10/100 so if you have a Gigabit switch you won't be able to get the maximum speed for transfering files across your network. As far as internet connectivity is concerned, most people don't exceed come close to maxing out a 10/100 card using DSL or Cable, so unless you have a T3 line, this card will not be a bottle neck in you internet access.

Siemens is not in the PCMCIA business. The best bet would be a Linksys product. Net gear next, and the rest are a toss up.

Overall if you have this card or can get a GREAT deal on it and are in need of a PCMCIA NIC then this will work fine.

The previous reviewer must not be experienced with Windows XP so I would ignore those comments. I couldn't be typing this review with ease and speed if it were an issue since I use Windows XP Pro with the Siemens SpeedStream 10/100 SS1012 on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 pentium II with a mere 256 MB of ram and a lowly 8 GB hard drive.

BEWARE - Not for Windows XP.......2004-05-25

Look out - this card is for older versions of Windows only, not Windows XP. Although it's not obvious from the main page for this product on Amazon, Amazon is selling a 2001 version of the Siemens SpeedStream PCMIA 10/100 Ethernet Card (SS1012). As a result, there is no driver for Windows XP included. If you go to the Siemens website, you learn that there IS NO DRIVER for Windows XP for this product. Siemens later came out with a different version of the SS1012, and that different version does have a Windows XP driver. But for this older version sold by Amazon, only the earlier versions of Windows are supported. Wish I'd known that before I ordered this.

Good Quality card / no hassles setup.......2002-03-20

This ethernet card was extremely easy to set up and it seems to work flawlessly. Not all ethernet cards are created equal, some rival others while some are just ok. This card is at the top of the pack, offering ease of use and siemens quality construction. Although, it's a little more expensive than some other cards... I think the price is warranted!
