A fairly decent bundle for a beginner........2007-05-02

About a year ago I was looking for a camera/printer bundle because I was interested in taking/printing pictures to make scrapbooks. I had owned a couple digital cameras before this one but figured I might as well buy a new one since printers alone are so much money. If I was spending money on a printer, I might as well get a new camera to go with it. ESPECIALLY if it would cost me next to nothing to get the camera. So I found this bundle on Amazon. I noted that it had 5 megapixels and 3x optical zoom which is pretty darn good. And HP is a decent brand. So I went ahead and bought it.

Now for my review of the camera. Let me first start off by saying that I'm not a camera expert by any means. However, I do know what I want my pictures to look like and I do know that there ARE cameras out there that can take really good pictures (I know this because the camera that I'm currently using is one of those cameras). One thing that I didn't want is a camera that takes a while to process after taking a picture. Not only does this camera take a while to process pictures, but if you move even slightly within 5 seconds after taking a picture, the picture comes out blurry. This is extremely inconvenient if you need to take several pictures in a row very quickly or if you want to take a picture of someone in movement or if your subject is jumpy (I know this because my cousin owns this camera as well and has trouble taking pictures of her 8 month old daughter). Also, the brightness doesn't always show what the true brightness is. I know how to use the flash and I understand what ISO settings are so I don't think that I'm the problem. I've taken plenty of pictures using other cameras and haven't had this problem. As far as the options on the camera, they are decent. You can play around with different settings to alter your photos (like changing the picture to black and white or sepia). These options are a little bonus.

The screen is a good size. No problems there whatsoever. The internal memory is typical. Most cameras can only hold a handful of pictures so an SD card is a necessary purchase.

As for the printer, I don't have any real problems with it. I'll admit that I've only used it with the few photo papers that came with the printer. The pictures that I DID print came out looking like pictures that you get developed. So if it's easier for you to use this printer instead of going to a drugstore to get them developed, this printer is a great option. The picture looks exactly like how it was taken. Nothing was cropped out of the original picture. The printing time isn't too long so if you want to print multiple pictures at once, time is not a huge problem. One thing that I did like about the printer is that you can dock the camera on it. Not only does docking charge the camera (let's face it, camera batteries die pretty often), but it also lets you review the pictures you took. This is pretty handy if you don't have a computer around.

So would I recommend this bundle? If this is your first digital camera and you're ok with a) having pictures with incorrect brightness and b) having to play with the camera a bit to get a good picture, go for it. I think it's a great bundle if you're scrapbooking and don't necessarily need to get "the perfect shot". Or if you're purchasing this just for the printer, that's a great idea too. However, if you've owned a digital camera before and want accurate pictures, I'd skip on this bundle. I have a Sony DSC-H2 and it works wonderfully (no playing around with the camera to get a good shot... just press the shutter and you've got a good picture). You truly get what you pay for. I'd suggest testing out cameras at a store before buying one.. If I had tested this one at a store, I would have passed on it hands down.

I've had the camera for over a year, and taken several thousand pictures with it. It's pretty darn good overall. I've been pleased with the image quality, especially for scenery shots. It does fall somewhat short with portraits of people in many cases, though. Easy to use. Minor durability problems.

I had to have the camera replaced by HP because it never really would stay "on" for more than a few shots. The process was so bad, I'll never by another HP camera. The printer is the older series, using #95 cortridges, so they are not waterproof. But it prints just fine.

Gave this to the in-laws for Cristmas and they were taking pictures the next time we went to visit. Definitely buy additional memory, the internal memory is really more of a back-up.

Read the description before you buy.......2005-04-15

This TV is exactly what it says it is. It is an "HD-compatible TV" with SVGA capable display (800x600 resolution)in 600 lines of resolution, normal TV is 480 lines.
So for those of you crying about it being 'false advertising', pay attention next time to the description of the product. Anything above 480 lines is HD-compatible, with true HD starting at 720 lines up to 1020 lines of resolution. A SVGA display capability is 800x600 for a computer monitor and that is what this TV gives. 1280x720 is XVGA. RCA also does not claim this is a Widescreen format (16:9), so the 4:3 format while better than normal TV is not true widescreen so the black bars will appear still on DVD widescreen pictures just less of them.
All in all, this TV has a GREAT viewing angle, GREAT brightness and candle power ratings, and is ranked high among similar brands (those being HD compatible digital LCD monitors.)

I'm shopping for a simple monitor. That's all. Nothing more. Just something that can simply show a picture, an image, a movie. Beware, this model can be connected to a PC or a DVD player but with only one connector. You'll need an adaptor to plug a DVD player through the PC input (RGB or D-Sub 15 pins). Good thinking RCA. What if I need to connect a DVD AND A PC ???
Better think twice before getting this one.

All roads seem to be leading to the PDA. While some palmtops are being streamlined down to PDA-like levels, a few companies are taking their formerly meek organizers and beefing them up to compare with the handhelds as well. Sharp's YO-520 electronic organizer definitely falls into that latter category.

The YO-520 has 1 MB of system memory, which is low for a handheld PDA but on the upper end for a $50 organizer. It also synchronizes data with your desktop PC, albeit through a slower serial port connection (though most of the data transfers you'll be doing won't be large enough to warrant a faster connection).

Close to the size of a PDA, this foldout organizer features only a 20-column-by-5-line screen, but does offer a bright backlight behind the display. Most of the space of the organizer is taken up by its myriad Chiclet-size keys--an entire keyboard and calculator are replicated on the unit. Additional buttons take you to the different applications built into the YO-520, including a calendar, scheduler, to-do list, expense calculator, and date reminder.

Programming the YO-520 isn't as easy as with your average PDA, where you click with the stylus until you find the settings. We found it was necessary to keep the manual handy, as we were constantly using secondary key functions to change the preferences.

In addition to synchronizing with data on your PC through the simple but thorough PIM (personal information management) software, the PC connection lets you download files from MyWizard.com and transfer them to your YO-520. These programs include sports schedules, college class notes, literature, and more. There is also a handy Info to Go feature at the MyWizard site to convert text from any Web site into a format readable on your YO-520.

While it won't be kicking the Palms out of dedicated PDA users' hands, Sharp's YO-520 provides more power and connectivity than your average organizer, and it would work well for users who need an inexpensive and portable PIM. --J. Curtis

The Sharp YO-520P is the best organizer I've used. It can do the following:

1. Memos (great to type long essays on (1995 characters) )
2. calendar (plan ahead with Calendar)
3. expense (keeps track of... well, your expense.)
4. clock (keeps track of time. Has built-in world clock.)
5. calculator (with conversions)(12-digit)
6. to do (What you need to do.)
7. anniversary (Keep track of your holidays, anniversaries, ect.)
8. telephone (list important telephone numers here.)
9. schedule (Keep track of your appointments with schedule.)
10. 1 MB storage! (user data approx: 896 KB)
11. Download data through mywizard.com
12. Syncronize with your PC

Interesting but..........2003-09-10

I have another Sharp organizer and it is the EL-6990. That one is a little more easier to use. This one has no games on it but I like the fact that maybe I might be able to do with it. The other one I have was cheaper. But this one is worth your while but keep the manual on hand like I do because I just got this one. I am still having some trouble shooting but I am getting used to it. Does this one also sychonize with your pc and have it's own organizer software for it? My EL 6990 has the software and can be backed on the computer?

KISS for replacing your address book.......2003-05-30

I have been using the Sharp series for over 10 years now. The great thing is at this price I can have 2 backup devices for travelling and keep one at work-so I am never w/o my info! I back it all up on my PC and sychronize it as needed. I use the Palm Pilot for some work,but it cannot beat the simplicity of this device for storing hundreds of names,#s,emails and addresses!

YO 520 Review.......2003-05-20

This is a response to EGray10 (and others):

To run your YO 520 using windows XP, go to the Compatibility Wizard within XP, and specify that the YO-520 software should be run using the Windows 2000 drivers. After doing that, it should work (it did for me).

It was great until I got Windows-XP. Now it doesn't work and I lost the Software CD and I now I have all my important addresses just in limbo on this organizer. If it breaks or I loose it... I loose everything! Help?
