The Basics

Hard Drive: The ATA-100 (Enhanced IDE) 40 GB (7200 RPM) hard drive is small in comparison with other desktop PCs in this price range, but it's understandable due to its classification as a business professional computer (where much data is shared and stored on networked servers).
Processor: The hyper-threaded 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 540 processor is at the low end of the spectrum for this processor (as of June 2005). Its hyper-threading feature allows this single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate, and a 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. This results in more efficient software performance (such as faster reaction times in gaming applications) and enhanced multitasking.
Memory: The 256 MB of installed RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz) will get you started, but you'll want to add more to handle any kind of multimedia application and today's processor-intensive business productivity suites. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity.
CD/DVD Drive: This desktop comes only with a 48x CD-ROM drive.
Keyboard & Mouse: The ThinkCenter M51 comes with an IBM Preferred Pro full-size keyboard (PS/2) and an IBM USB optical wheel mouse.

Chassis Design
It's encased in a durable black steel chassis that offers maximum flexibility for servicing and upgrading components inside the M51. Toolless-entry design makes upgrades easier and repairs faster with a cover that can be opened without tools, plus toolless slots and internal bays that flip up to allow components to slide out. ThinkCentre M51 desktops also feature an innovative "caddy" that surrounds the hard disk drive, locking it into place without the use of tools or screws. Rubber bumpers on the caddy decrease vibration and deliver quieter operation. Other mechanical improvements have been made to the overall design of the ThinkCentre PCs, including improved airflow and reduced noise.

Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video and graphics are powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides 64 MB of shared video memory. It will produce a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It also features integrated SoundMax Cadenza audio and an internal mono speaker.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This M51 model has a good assortment of expansion capabilities for the office. It features a 3.5-inch, 1.44 MB floppy drive, and has the following external connectivity ports:

Great Cassette Player.......2007-05-13

My husband requested that I purchase a cassette player and he is very pleased with my choice. We have a great many CD's, but we still have cassette tapes that we enjoy listening to when we exercise. Bob's is delighted with the sound and stability of the Panasonic RQV75 Stereo Radio Cassette with XBS.

Radio OK, but excellent tape player.......2001-01-09

The radio on this walkman is nothing to rave about. It picks up a lot of interference on FM from strong stations, but AM is a little better. The cassette part of this is excellent, however. It sounds great and the XBS system works well. Even with it on there's no sound distortion, even at high volume. Rewind and Fast Forward are really quick. It can wind a tape faster than any other walkman I've had. Also battery life couldn't be better. The batteries last a long time and even when they are weak the tape player still runs and the volume still goes up all the way without distortion, unlike other walkmans. The previous model, the RQ-V65, which I own, has a much better radio and I use it all the time. But when the volume control wore out I purchased this model thinking it would work exactly the same since appearance and control layout were similar. The radio didn't, however. Fortunately I had my old one repaired and since I was more interested in the tuner I sent this one back since I didn't need it anymore. But if you're looking for a good cassette player and don't care about the radio this is an excellent choice. It's definitely better than a Sony (which puts out no bass at high volume).

Good "budget" Walkman........2000-05-15

This is a great cheap personal cassette player. It is fairly lightweight and quite unobtrusive. If you are not out to look extra fancy this is a great player. Also it gets excellent battery life. I can listen to tapes all week long at work for almost a month(3.5 weeks on last set), usually about 3 hours average a night, on just two AA batteries. (I use only Duracell).

not even an one star product - a third class product from a first class company(!). It worked initially in Windows 98SE. But once I tried XP - problem started - the customer service seems to be from North Pole - worthless and rude. After weeks hardwork - it suddenly started working again before gone dead for ever (within one and half years of slow bad performance).

Burner works OK and DIES after 2 years.......2003-12-18

This burner was my first burner and it worked fine for the few times that I used it. I was unable to get it to interact with the existing CDROM drive in ny computer though. Sometimes it didn't like to burn onto CDR media and I don't know why. Now, after about 2 years, it had DIED. Right now it is detected by windows 98, showing up in Device Manager and a drive letter does appear in Windows Explorer. The strange thing is that I cannot get the stupid thing to recognize a disk, either normal CD or anything. The activity light constantly blinks and it does not read the disks and when a disk has been placed the drive DOES NOT OPEN up again. You cannot get it to open to retrieve the disk until the computer is rebooted.

I do NOT recommend this drive unless you want to buy a new drive every two years. and the $70+ price i saw on this website is pathetic and highway robbery.

Well, It worked "OK" for about a year. All of the sudden it stopped working after the warranty was completed. Did not work well with virus software installed and never create CD-ROMs at the max speed. Overheated and crash the computer several times before it completely died. Buy something else!!!!!!

As a coaster maker I give this unit 5 stars......heck 6 stars, but as a CD burner I'd give it zero stars if I could. Even on a fast machine with plenty of memory you get numerous buffer underruns and you get them almost everytime. I've tried all the best burner software from Roxio to Nero and have tried it in 3 computers and only 1 of the 3 computers did it even work half of the time.

All in all a very shotty unit and not what I'd expect from the company that invented the CD-Rom!

Problems here!.......2002-05-11

CD Burner was working great. Give it about a month and the burner will not recognize any of your cd's. I thought it was the software I was using, so I got rid of the Adaptec Burning Software that came with it and installed Nero. Same problem! Tried to reinstall the drivers. Still nothing there. I thought it might be the OS so I changed from Windows 2000 to XP. Same Problem! So installed the old Windows 98. Same problem. I guess i get what I paid for. Cheap price cheap product.
