I've used KVMs over the years and this is the first one I've seen that doesn't work with IBM PCs. The manual suggests it's IBM's fault. Returning this POS.

From a functional standpoint, this is one of the best "non-industrial" KVM switches I've used. Switches between multiple OS's (W2K/XP/Linux) with no issues. Seems perfectly happy with both my antique IBM keyboard and my brand new Logitech wireless mouse (with USB->PS2 adapter and the standard number of buttons). Ergonomically, it could be better, though. As other reviewers have noted, cables attach to this puppy on 3 of 4 sides. When set up with the max of 4 machines, it has 15 cables attached to it. Since it weighs all of a half-pound, it's pretty much sitting where ever the cables want it to be, not where you want it to be. I was able to get it to stay where I want it without an utter mess by careful routing of cables and use of lots of cable ties. Also, again because of the light weight of the device, you need to hold it in place while depressing the selector button, or it tends to walk away from you. And finally, I'm not a fan of the hotkey combination required to activate the device: Alt, Ctrl, Shift, PC#(1-4), Enter. Five keystrokes - you've gotta be joking! I'm a much bigger fan of the Belkin way (ScrlLk, ScrlLk, Up/Down). Pity their current products are so dicey.

The device works well. I am using it at 1028x1024 connected to a flat panel. As long as I use good cables I don't get any ghosting. The manual is not on linksys website which would be a good way to really check out the product before buying it. You can switch between the two monitors by hitting ctrl twice in a row. People complain that this is a problem while gaming. The unit offers the ability to change the hot-key. Just hold down the button on the unit while hitting the key you want to act as the hot-key. I changed mine to the never used scroll-lock. Now I hit scroll-lock twice to switch to the other computer.
One downside I have noticed. When I use the unit, I have a slight delay in ctrl and shift for operations like multiple select. It does not matter if the app is explorer, imaging, or the xwindows cad software I use. I have to give a second of holding the key down before clicking on the second item. It also seems to have an effect on the repeat rate on the keyboard. I use a logitic wireless keyboard/mouse so it could be the combination, but the problem is not there when I plug directly into the computer. It can be annoying sometimes.

I've had no problems with it at all! I love the ability to switch between computers using the hotkey. Its CTRL-CTRL for the 2-port KVM. I understand the 4-port has a more complicated hotkey that may be harder to use.
I think this is an excellent product! Go for it if you need a KVM.

The Linksys ProConnect 2 port KVM is performing flawlessly for me. It came with the cable sets making it a real bargain. I have not found any glitches whatsoever. My wheel mouse and all it's extended functions are working perfectly. The cables are heavy grade and color coded. They are somewhat on the short side, but thats okay as the keyboard hotkeys work smoothly. I highly recommend this product.

This is a great buy if you need to use two computers, but don't want to get two monitors or only have the space for the one monitor. It comes with cables, and was attached and working in 5-10 minutes, there is really no need to read the manual, operation is so simple. The switch is good quality, neither computer is suffering from a bad video connection, and you get to use your favorite mouse and keyboard all the time. I highly recommend this product.

I've used this product for almost 6 years now and have noticed no problems or degradation of video signal or response time.
I'm using it with a Flat screen monitor and 2 PCs. One of the pcs is my web/email machine and the other is a gaming machine. The CTRL CTRL mechanism for switching between pcs works great and has only been a problem in some games where CTRL is used for something else. I'd say this has occurred less than 2% of the time though.
The only thing that I would like to see is the addition of speaker support, but that really isn't in any of the KVM switch products.

I couldn't get this to work properly, I called tech support and tried a lot on my own (I'm a vetern IT systems engineer so I'm no idiot). This is a cheap piece of equipment and its very unreliable. My problem was a very long delay in keystroke and mouse movement reaction time on the screen. Don't waste your money.

I bought this nearly 2 years ago, and have never been unhappy with it. I've used it on DOS, Windows 3.1/95/98/NT/XP and Linux machines, with PS2-AT and USB-PS2 adapters - - they always work. I tried a Belkin Omniview 4-port switch for about 6 months - finally sold it and went back to my Linksys, which does NOT make an annoying BEEP every time I switch between machines, does NOT care which machine I power-up first, and NEVER gets "lost" between machines. Thank you Linksys!

Works ok with some DVDs. The only reason I bought was for the radio included in but it was not worth the trouble. In 12 months it has spent atleast 2 months getting fixed. The DVD doesnt open and they dont know whats the fix for it. Said they added some lubricant to open but it failed again. Then they changed the laser head dont know why but even that doesnt seem to help

Everything seems ok about this, but I cant hear the voice channel very well. I pretty much have to turn it up to 35-40 to be able to hear much voice durring a movie... If I could fix that I'd be plenty happy.
Good starter system or for a spare bedroom.......2004-12-18
Had this setup for a year or so. The sound or audio quality is certainly not going to be mistaken for a "serious" home theater system made of seperate components, but that ought to be obvious from the price tag. It's more than adequate for a starter system, an apartment, or for a bedroom. The volume control at about the 40 setting is enough to start making the neighbors complain, which is good since much higher and the sound starts distorting a bit. The player itself seems of reasonable build quality and I experienced no issues with the player whatsoever during the time I owned it, the speakers and subwoofer seem a bit cheap but they work fine. Setup is pretty easy as the wires have colored plug connectors on one end, just match like colors. Of course the downside to this is that you have to use the lousy speaker wire that comes in the box, since if you bring your own high-gauge wire you won't have the plug to connect it to the player. But of course if you're buying this unit you're likely not going to be out buying expensive Monster Cable for it ;)
All in all, it's does a pretty decent job of what it's intended for, namely being a cheap solution for those with modest needs. It's not going to give you sound quality that would make Mozart weep. But if you're looking for something to get your feet wet in the home theater world without breaking the bank, or want a second or backup system for another room, then it's not a bad choice.
DVD part went bust after just 11 months. .......2004-10-02
Bought it Nov. 2003, broke 9/30/04 and the warranty covers labor for only 90 days. It never worked that well to begin with, some DVD wouldn't work on it, although they worked fine on other players.

The quality of this DVD player is absolutely amazing. The progressive scan technology looks great even on a normal TV! The sound quality is unmatched and along with Dolby Digital 5.1 there is two sweets that make this deal amazing. The first is Dolby Pro-Logic 2, which is great for watching TVmovies and other nice programing encoded for this format. It is also GREAT for the GameCube which uses Pro-Logic 2 for surround! The best part of this deal is the DTS support!!! DTS for under $200!!!!! When I turn this DVD player to widescreen and then use the 16:9 aspect ratio on my 32" Flat CRT TV the quality is similar to HDTV!! Make sure when you get it and you are using a 4:3 display to change the setting on the system to tell it that you are using 4:3 otherwise it will default to wide and it will look bad on your TV!! Great buy!
