This little switch was easy to setup and include into an existing network, actually there was nothing to setup!
Why do I like it? Because its invisible. From when I unpacked it and plugged in a few Ethernet (1gb and 100mb) devices, it has never reminded me that it exists!

I needed more speed on my network. I run a home based business and have 8 computers on the network. The computers could handle a large amount of data quickly. The standard speed switches I had could only operate at 10/100. I looked into and purchased two Gigabit Switches (16 and 5 ports). I also purchased the corresponding network adapter cards (that's a no brainer). It was one of the best technology investments I made in 2006.

Product works as advertised - performs within specifications. The 5 port unit has no fan and is thus silent in the true sense of the word.

I only gave 4 stars because the unit does not support jumbo frames.

Also, Linksys has free online chat based tech support if you need it.

I have been shopping for a Gigabit Switch with which to upgrade my home network and have found not a single positive review regarding any Linksys Gigabit Switch.

I am uncertain if other users have been burned by receiving shoddy hardware from the start; however, the two units I purchased are in perfect working order and are silent and cool--contrary to the numerous critiques on Amazon.com and several hardware review web sites. (I wonder if Linksys made modifications to the design since this product has been released...)

The metal case keeps the switch cool, although it will still get warm--like anything else you plug into an electrical outlet. The device feels sturdy and works very well. I have a LINUX box set up as a file, FTP, and web server and have had no issues whatsoever moving large files with this device over the past week. There is mention of a fan in this and the larger model (SD2008); however, I have yet to hear this little switch make a sound at all.

My only issue with this particular model is that it is not designed to really inform the user of the connection speed--that is something you must rely upon Windows to do. The connection LEDs will light-up and blink based upon network activity, but there is no indication whether the speed is 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps.

I have been using Linksys products for over a year and a half and have not once received a piece of hardware for which I needed to return to the store or contact technical support. I used a Microsoft Wireless Broadband Router (MN-500) which needed to be replaced three times over a six-month period. I made the switch to Linksys and never turned back.

Great Investment--Three Years Ago!.......2006-12-25

If I could have reviewed these headphones when I bought them, I would have given them 5 stars easily, but that was awhile ago, and I purchased them for even less than what Amazon is listing them at now (I bought them for about 75 dollars--that was when a dollar was worth more than today). When I think about how long they have lasted, and the fact that I could get 40 bucks for them in resale value easily if they were sold today, I must say--this is one of the best electronic purchases that I have ever made! I only have a very minor short in the cord now, and that is replaceable anyhow, even though it is not even bothersome enough to replace yet...

Even so, I wouldn't sell these for 40 dollars, as they are still worth more than that to me while I wait for the next generation of headphones to hit the market in force (two years I wonder???). But I can not believe they have lasted as long as they have. I have used these about an average of two hours a day, and have probably used them for over a thousand hours total, and they still sound nearly as good as my dad's brand new $350 Bose QC3 or whatever the heck they are called. Granted, these are not noise-canceling, but if you listen to your music as loud as I do, you shouldn't need that nonsense (annoying battery charging feature and on/off switch anyhow); plus, my cord stretches a lot further and I can watch movies even though the receiver is on the other side of the room.

In any case, I would still say these are a pretty good deal, but honestly...they should have a decent pair of wireless headphones on the market now that are full surround sound for $150 bucks. It's been over three years since I've bought these things, come on now. This is the world of electronics, not the internal combustion engine.

Really Great Headphones with one tiny flaw.......2006-03-01

Yesterday I finally recieved my new sweet headphones in the mail. All I have to say is that they are indeed incredible. They are a little bigger than I imagined, but that's not what's important (not when you're paying this much!). The most important part is that they sound GREAT! They give all of music more depth and sometimes it's overwhelming. They give such a clear and pure impression of what all of my songs sound like, and I have already found them very useful for making music on my computer. It's too bad that some of my music was ripped in poor quality (64kbps - 96kbps) and with these I can really hear the difference. But, in contrast, my music that has been ripped in high quality (+128kbps) sounds excellent.

I have one small complaint that doesn't really merit a lower score, but I feel should be mentioned. The jack that plugs into your computer or MP3 player or what have you, can't be plugged in all the way. If I push it in as far as it goes, nothing sounds right, and the headphones sound worse than my $20 pair. This is easily remedied by pulling the jack out a bit. It seems almost as if the jack has two different settings depending on how far you push it into whatever you're listening to. At first this really scared me, because it worked fine at first, and then I plugged into my MP3 player and it immediately sounded awful. After some playing with it I figured out what it was. It's a little annoying, but I didn't feel it needed take the rating down (4 and a half might actually be more appropriate).

Overall, these are excellent headphones, and if you can deal with the odd little jack thing, then you are sure to be pleased with them. I have yet to see how they work outside of the house, hopefully just as well as inside! Unfortunately they don't look waterproof, which is too bad because I live in the northwest, and it rains quite often.

Good God!.......2005-02-22

yeah, i'd have to say these cans are pretty freakin' sweet. Sound is great, better than most sennheisers i've heard, especially at this price. The bass is mabye just a tad bassy, but barely. one of the most comfortable pair of headphones i've ever had the pleasure of putting on (around) my ears. They dont make your ears to warm like many high end phones, and the pads are uber soft. Sony may be a big faceless corporation, but they sure make some great audio equipment.

I was looking to replace an old pair of Koss(yard sale purchase years ago)with more comfort and maybe better sound.After reading 10 or more reviews I chose the Sony. Very comfortable.No clicks,hum,or buzz.The sound is good and picks up things on the cd's I had not heard on my speakers.I am glad I did not pay listed retail($99.99).I think these are a value at the Amazon price.I received excellent service through J&R electronics.I did not go 5 stars because I had no other brands of equal quality or price to listen to and compare.
