First off, why in the heck would you want to run at those lower resolutions with a 19? I bought mine so i can take advantage of the higher res.

Here is some common sense logic for you, if you want to run those lower res, why dont you buy a Packard Bell 15 inch and save $$???

I have performed an exhaustive search for the ultimate 19" computer monitor. Being a perfectionist, I wanted the best monitor available at a reasonable price that included style, high quality color picture, sharp focus and brightness, complete and easy-to-use picture adjustments, totally flat screen and minimal cabinetry surrounding the cathode ray picture tube to give the appearance of a larger screen without the annoying distraction of an oversized cabinet. Since, it seemed that all of the monitors examined had at least some flaws noted in the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that they were minor and basically unfounded in this particular NEC monitor. I am totally satisfied with it's performance and it's exceptional style. I already had the NEC Multisync FE700 17" monitor which I equally treasure. There is no other like NEC!

Great Monitor.......2001-10-14

This is a great monitor. The lines are sharp and text is very clear. The screen controls are outstanding - supporting a number of adjustments to ensure the display is positioned and sized correctly at various resolutions. Glare is much less than it was with my older Dell 17" Trinitron monitor (it being a flat screen with anti-glare coating as well). The cabinet is stylish and compact - fitting in about the same space as the Dell 17" Trinitron monitor it replaced.

Large monitors are designed to give you greater desktop real estate yet display images and text at about the same size as you would typically see on a smaller monitor running at lower resolutions (640x480, 800x600). Just as smaller monitors (15 and 17") are not optimized for higher resolutions (1152x864 and up), larger monitors are not optimized to run at lower resolutions. This isn't isolated to NEC monitors. I've used large monitors from many vendors and they all struggle to display lower resolutions as clearly as they do at resolutions they were design for. However, I wouldn't say it's so bad that you cannot bear to run at the lower resolutions.

If you intend to run at the lower resolutions with a 19 or 21 inch monitor, I would suggest you go test drive a few large monitors at your local retailer just to make sure the clarity is what you expected.

NEC always makes it!.......2001-02-13

Firstly, I must state that I think the same with Smiff Desine. The idea of seeing blur letters is completely a rubbish, that monitor is designed especially for CAD\CAM users. Everybody should be knowing this! So you won't work in lower resolutions like 800x600 in any case, by the way let me remind that's a 19" monitor! That NEC FP950 really rocks when you set it to 1024x768 or over. Sharp colours, fast horizontal and vertical refresh, a tube using GRILLPITCH technology, being able to absorb %90 of light etc. and also being a NEC makes this beast THE BEST selection! - especially for people studying engineering like me in my opinion - . Trust me, it's not a waste of money and the technical support is well enough at least to take care of you. Why thinking still?

NEC FP950 19" CRT Monitor.......2001-01-12

Before we go anyfurther, ignore the last review concerning blurred letters -just take any picture on your computer and enlarge it to 200% and you'll get the idea. Anyway, as an engineering design professional I've found this monitor a delight, it will display higher resolutions at a higher refresh rate than any other 19" monitor, the first thing you'll notice how vibrantly it displays colours and if you set your display to an appropriate resolution ie. not <1280x960 (you don't run a monitor of this size @800x600) you'll be rewarded with incredibly sharp and detailed images. The FP950 also has a suprisingly small footprint considering it's got the flatest display I've ever seen. As far as customer service in the US goes I can't comment, as I bought this monitor in the UK but the 3 year OS warranty certainly provides peace of mind. So if your after a 19" monitor and you're applications demand such performance, it's money well spent.

Good LCD.......2006-09-19

I bought this LCD for use at my job, because they wouldn't buy one for me. I used it about 3 months and had a good work area with it's big screen and it's resolution. It's multiple inputs were helpful when workin on secondary systems like a mac mini.

After leaving the company I worked for I used the rca video input making the monitor a secondary tv monitor during a house gathering which was cool. Of course, this monitor being LCD showed a better pciture than the TV some people were watching.

The display initially looked decent, but the power supply died immediately after the one-year warranty expired. Really cheap components. I would avoid this LCD if you're looking for lasting quality.

Terrible monitor, horrible service & tech support.......2005-12-13

This monitor worked correctly for about a month. After that it began displaying incorrect colors and odd patterns. After returning it to Sceptre in CA twice it still does not work properly. Sceptre Customer Service and Technical Support are extremely incompetent, disorganized and rude.

We would never purchase a Sceptre product again. Spend a few extra dollars to get a better name brand.

Great monitors, but............2005-09-10

I have two of these monitors. They're great.... until I had a power outage. Then they won't come back on. I have to play with the power plug on one for about twenty minutes (not a short, just plugging it in, checking to see if it's back on, and unplugging it if it isn't) and the other I've already had to send back for repair for this problem once. It came back, we had a power outage and... yep, no workie. I haven't heard many other bad reviews, may this be the only one.

Excellent Monitor! .......2005-09-02

Super Monitor! I replaced my CRT 17" with this unit after the 9 yr old Dell unit died. I like to use higher resolution settings, and had been using the normal 17" settings of 1024x768. Now, I'm running at 1600x1200 at 32 bit/60 hz (the max spec for this unit) and it is beautiful! I would prefer to be able to give you absolute numerical sorts of ratings, but it is a visual thing and I am very pleased. Any other monitor of this size was a LOT more money, so far, so good. The DVI, S-video, built-in speakers, PIP, and tilt base are great.

Nice sound, bad buttons.......2007-08-15

The first guy wasn't fooling when he said that the sound on this thing is great. I was skeptical, but Beethoven's 9th sounded better on it than it did on my JVC stereo.

The eject button is the worst. It's relatively easy to switch, but almost impossible to do without holding down the top. I still haven't figured out an easy way to do it. The other buttons are easy to push, but hard to read. They are dark purple (some might call it blue) with impressions, but the impressions are very faint.

Also, it does a weird thing with spinning the CD. It looks like it stops spinning the CD periodically, and then starts up again. I guess it must read 60 seconds worth of data and then halt the CD while playing back. It doesn't affect the sound at all, though. I only noticed it because I was looking at it while listening and writing this review.

A whole lot of sound for very little money.......2006-05-27

I have to disagree with the reviewer who gave this machine a 1 - geeze...what do you want for -$20.00? I think the headphones supplied are... ummmmmmm well to be blunt - they suck! I have other headphones so I use those with the player. I think the volume resetting to zero at the shut-off is a safety feature for people - prevents them from blowing his/her head off when powering up to listen at a later time. I do have an MP3 player (128 MB) and I love it, but I wanted more capability in a player and did not want to spend the moola for more flash memory. I get 700 MB of music on a cdr good deal for me. The feature set on this player is quite good for my needs - POP, Rock, Surround or vanilla! Sure, I'd love to be able to set all the bands - but again it's a $20.00 machine! The batteries last 20 hrs (I have not verified this yet - this is according to RCA). I know there are better machines available, but they cost more too. I am very satisfied with my purchase. RCA backs this player with a ONE Year warranty! Geeze, my Mp3 player only gave me 90 days! I challenge anyone to find a better player for $20.00! I sincerely believe this is as good as it gets for that kind of money. I give it a 5 because I am impressed with this machine. Give it a listen - I think you'll agree - it's a stone cold bargain!

Annoying!.......2005-11-17

The most annoying thing is the volume -- it comes on at the same volume, regardless of the volume you were listening at the last time you used it. You then need to adjust it each time. And even more annoying, the volume up and down are two separate, and hard to find buttons, which make it louder or quieter in preset increments. It gives you very little control, and even the lowest volume is quite loud, so I can't get it as quiet as I want it.

When Tamron made the AF28-200mm f3.8-f5.6 Super II macro lens, it had the shortest minimum focusing distance in its class. Tamron AF28-200 f/3.8-5.6 Super II Macro.......2000-12-04

This is a very good all-purpose lens. The only problems that i have encountered have been a slight distortion around the edges at about 150mm and up. The focusing is relatively fast, and pictures are generally sharp. The lens is heavy, but to me it is better than lugging around multiple lenses. Its maximum aperture range is good for such a wide range of zooms, and the included lens hood is very useful for the outdoors. All in all a very good zoom lens, with a few minor drawbacks. Great for any photographer looking for quality and simplicity.

An Lense with Altitude.......2000-11-04

For a recent climbing trip to Nepal, I had specific requirements for a camera/lense combination. The final two choices for lenses were the Sigma 28/200 and the Tamron 28/200.

I required one lense to cover as much range as possible to save weight and bulk on the climb. I wanted the option of auto or manual focus. The lense gearing had to be able to deal with extreme cold. I did not want a lense a sucked all the juice out of the batteries. And the lense had to be user friendly with a gloves and mitts.

I chose the Tamron, in the store, over the Sigma because it had raised ribs on the cover which made it easier to manually focus with large down mitts on my hands. Once on the trail it performed very well. I never had a problem with the gearing becoming sluggish (we had a couple of -40 days). I only had two sets of batteries for the whole trip, and I took many rolls. The 28 gave me some amazing panoramic style shots and I was able to use the 200 part to do some route finding. Everything in between was gravy.

And the final proof was when I returned home and had the film developed. I have done several slide presentations for a host of different groups and they have all been happy with the photography. A couple of professional photographers were interested in what lense I had used.

So it is safe to say that I HIGHLY recommend the Tamron 28/200.
