The SuperScript 870 monochrome laser printer from NEC Technologies is a home or small office printer for PC systems. With print output up to eight pages per minute, and 600 dpi resolution, the 870 has the print speed and clarity to service both business and home print job requirements. I'm glad that I didn't read the reviews stating that the 870 wouldn't work with XP. If I had, I might have been concerned when I bought my new computer. As it was, I just started printing after loading the NEC provided CD.

In fact, to complicate things, I'm printing through my home LAN via an Ethernet-to-Parallel print server (about $30, if I remember correctly). My HP inkjet is also on the server. No problems with either.

How to make this printer work with Windows XP.......2005-08-06

Ok, this was a super printer. I would have given it 5 stars -- worked for years, printed many many drafts of my dissertation -- but then NEC stopped supporting the driver. Everyone still using this has had problems because it definitely doesn't work with XP, and some people have problems with Windows 2000. NEC no longer supports it; they blame Adobe for not updating the PrintGear software they depend on, and Adobe (perhaps not surprisingly) blames NEC.

Regardless, I have just discovered a way around this. While I would NOT recommend that anyone buy this printer from a reseller even though it is cheap, if you already have this and want to keep it working, I suggest using the driver for the HP LaserJet IIP. To do this, use your control panel, select "Printers" (or whatever), "add a printer" and then you will have to manually select the driver. You should be able to pick out this driver out of the list of what came preloaded with XP. Select HP as the company, and then choose between the printer driver options.

I don't know whether this will clear up all the problems for everyone, and let you use all the features that were available with this printer when the NEC driver worked (watermark, booklet printing, etc.), but I do know that I wasn't able to print at all before, and I can print all my basics now. Best laser printer I have ever owned!!!

Go to the Hewlett Packard website and download the Windows XP updated driver for an HP IIP Laserjet. Works like a charm!!!!!

NEC Abandons Customers.......2004-08-16

This printer works wonderfully ... quick and reliable prints... no problems until Windows XP. NEC refuses to make a driver for Windows XP, thus leaving me with a useless piece of trash.

Based on this experience I would guess NEC has no problem treating its customers poorly and would expect the same on their "current" products. I'll not buy another product from NEC.

NEC Abandoned Current Owners of the NEC 870.......2003-12-24

The NEC Superscript 870 is a great printer. I've used it now for three years and it's a workhorse that never jams and continues to spew out fantastic looking text, graphics, etc. I love this printer!

However, I HATE NEC! NEC refuses to issue an updated driver for this printer so that it can be used with the Windows XP operating system. If you have XP or want to upgrade to XP (like I want to) this printer will suddenly become a large paper weight! This means that I spent $400 three years ago for a terrific printer that still works like a charm and shows no signs of ever stopping BUT when I upgrade to Windows XP I have to buy another printer.

Simply do a search on the net for "NEC Superscript 870 XP Driver" for evidence of widespread frustration regarding this printer and the terrible way NEC has handled this problem.

I will never again buy ANY product from NEC.

The ePods-1 is highly recommended as a versatile device. While it comes dedicated to the ePods service, it should be noted that as a WindowsCE device, it is also capable of much more (including the playing of WindowsCE games). You can surf the net and download some WindowsCE games into it. To save on its limited amount of memory, you can buy a CompactFlash card... and store your programs in that, thus freeing the ePods-1 from one of its several memory limitations. All in all, this is a fine little unit that is easy to hold and easy to carry. Its built-in holder for the stylus is very convenient. A special feature is the on-screen keyboard. Press the keyboard button once, and you have the as-expected little tiny keyboard that you poke with the stylus. But press it again and the screen halfway fills up with a large keyboard that you can actually use two fingers to poke at. If you are a touch-typist, it takes very little time before you are using both index fingers to touch type even those longer missives you love to send to your significant other. It's the fastest, easiest PDA on-screen keyboard I've ever used! The USB ports (there are 2) support use of MS-compatible keyboards right away; I took the unit to a computer store and started plugging in various USB keyboards (they worked!) without the need to load any drivers or fool with anything. As soon as I started typing on the external USB keybard, the letters started appearing on the ePods-1 screen. Very nice! Part PDA-part computer, the ePods EP1 is as close to a space-age Etch-A-Sketch as you can get; and the price is right. Supports plenty of standard USB and PCMCIA add-ons and can be easily made to work with internet providers other than the ePods service. Also runs plenty of WindowsCE applications that you can download online. Hope they get more of these in stock soon!

I have been searching for a device like this for some time now. The Palm is great but serves as merely an organizer. The websurfing on my Palm 7 is minimal and I can't stand the text-based experience. Although the ePods product is tethered to the wall, the ability to surf the web from any room in my home is remarkable. I never thought I'd be able to browse my recipes from my kitchen.......even while cutting carrots. In a nutshell, this is a must buy!

This product is great for using the internet while sitting on the sofa. It only works with ePods ISP...It has a touch screen and you type on a pop-up keyboard using a stylus or your fingers. The LCD seduces you at first with a decent display, but components are cheap. The monitor died just when the one-year warranty expired. Sceptre has a growing reputation for marketing unreliable products. I would NOT recommend this product and will not buy Sceptre again.

A Good Value.......2004-11-03

Hard to beat the price for a monitor with this size and specs. But I wouldn't use it for games or graphics. 1280x1024 maximum resolution and .29 dpi is on the low end, although a contrast ratio of 700:1 is most impressive. The monitor is also very bright, even at its lowest setting. There's only a 1-yr. warranty on it, so there's a chance you might need to replace it after a year or buy an extended warranty from your retailer if available, the cost for which will then have to be weighed against the value of this monitor.

I was praying for a boombox for my birthday, and this one is truly awesome. It's a little slow reading CDs, but the looks and easy-use make up for it. It's inexpensive, but contains great quality. This is a perfect item for people new to getting their own personal music device.

This yo-180 is quite good, the screen is a 5*18 lines, the keyboard is smooth and responsive... For that price, it's a good deal. I'm happy with it...

Except one thing, Sharp announces a PC-Link. In fact this is just a backup utility with no possibilities to update or upload massives data from your PC (one by one only).

They need to improve this Pc-Link software...

Yes, the PC interface cable and (slow) backup and address entry software comes with the unit!

The To Do list nicely sorts entries by alphanumeric priority, so you can organize by categories like B for Buy or M for Movies, as well as use priority levels 1 thru 9.

Fits nicely in your pocket, with a keyboard which is quite usable for typical short entries.

The calendar's monthly display shows morning and afternoon appointments at a glance.

I'm completing software to speed up the slow backup and to allow importing and exporting entries. Email me if you would like to test and comment on the utility.

YO-180 New Electronic Organizer Does a Good Job.......1999-10-01

This is a great Electronic Organizer. Size just right for coat or shirt pocket. Good memory size for most users. Very Light in weight. Has good size fonts easy to read. The note function is great, pleanty of lines to put a lot of information. Only down side is software that comes with product is sub-standard can only backup data. Can not update calendar or lookup phone numbers on your PC from information downloaded from this unit to your PC. Upside this is a new product and hopefully software is in the wings.
