This is NOT a review for this seemingly excellent camera YET..
I hope Amazon doesn't mind and actually should appreciate the following:
I've been in the market for this Camcorder for over a month now and haven't quite decided between the DVC30 or DVC60 - also have been looking at the Canon GL2, but all the reviews warning about the cassette problems keep me away from it.. Both (Panasonics) have almost the same features except for size of the Camera and LCD screen. I am a ret. camera man and would like to have the "shoulder"-version, but then the more compact DVC30 is also tempting.
HOWEVER: I have also researched prices of different bidders on the Web.
BE AWARE: I have contacted (and actually placed orders) with at least three "Super Deal" CAMERA shops, all of them on the US-East-Coast and CLOSED on "SATURDAY's"..!? (I don't want to get in trouble, so I avoid names) Some of them offer the DVC60 f.i., for under $1,600.- and when you call to confirm the order (they require that..!), you talk to a "hasty" guy - and some are really RUDE! - He'll tell you this price is only for the BODY (???) with "SILCH" (his words) - or for a "Japanese" version (go figure) - or just not in stock ... and when you get to the point where you say: "I just want the Camcorder with the BASIC ("What's in the Box")accessories and a lens (which IS FIXED) on it", they have the weirdest explanations (some then call it a "RETAIL" version) and ask for anywhere from $2,200. to $,2400. !!!, which is much more then from a reputable organisation like Amazon with fair prices and a courteous, reliable return policy (just in case).
I must add though, all of these "hudlums" accepted imediate cancellations and have not placed any charges to my already provided CreditCard information ... which WAS a concern..!!!

Great Camera for the money.......2006-01-31

I bought one of these in Oct. of 2005 and have shot various events thus far. If you are looking for a good camera and don't want to spend $5000 or more then consider the AG-DVC60.
It's solidly built and has a wealth of features. The XLR jacks let you use a vast array of pro audio gear and the full size form factor allows for steady shots and screams professionalism. Everyone is impressed when I show up with it. The large viewfinder is quite useful whereas the smaller one on the DVC7 is very frustrating.
It's got both pro features and consumer features such as nightshot which I found significantly better than my Sony 730. The low lux recording ability of this camera is great (I am not talking nightshot). If you are shooting in the black of night, the recorded images are just that - black - and not grainy like consumer models. I recently shot a candlelight wedding and it did marvelous. I could go on and on about the pros of this camera but the features on the site sum it up pretty well. The images are rich and detailed. The only cons I have are it has smaller CCDs than the more expensive cameras although the footage looks as good as my friend's XL1. Also, I would prefer to have both a manual focus ring and iris ring rather than the single multi-use ring it has.
Early models had microphone issues but it seems that has been resolved now as mine works fine though I seldom use the built in mic since I have pro mics. Having worked television for 6 years I have seen some pretty expensive equipment and for the money, this thing can not be beat.

good sound quality, bad electronic skip protection (ESP).......2004-01-22

The overall sound quality is good in all modes tested by me (audio-CD, MP3-CD, FM-radio).

There are some problems, however:

1. The ESP (electronic skip protection) system is bad. The player buffers up to 40 seconds of audio CD data and up to 120 seconds of MP3 (at 128kbps). However, it behaves very badly. While walking (just normal fast walk) with an audio-CD (the ESP is ON) I sometimes (too often :-) get sound "breaks" (this has never happened to me with my old philips player which also has about 40 seconds buffer). The situation gets even worse when using a MP3-CD. The following happens (almost always !) - in the beginning it reads the MP3 data until the buffer is full. Then it switches the cd-spin-engine off and plays the music purely from the buffer. About 10 seconds before the end of the buffer, it switches the cd-spin-engine on and tries to read consecutive MP3 data. If you are walking, it usually happens that it fails at this moment, and the sound "breaks" for many, many seconds (so, let's say ... every 100 seconds of "music" you get 20 seconds of "break" ... is this what you expect from a player ?).

2. In FM-radio mode it is not possible to use EQ function at all (in CD-related-modes there are 6 different settings available: Flat, Rock, Jazz, Super.Bass, Classic, Power.Sound).

3. In FM-radio mode one can preset up to 15 stations (I would need at least 20 in my area :-)

4. The remote control does not have a LCD display (the main unit has one, but not illuminated).

Note that there is no firmware upgrade possible for this model, so all these problems will not go ...
It's up to you ... if you can live with them ...

i ordered these sony ss-mf650h floor speakers because of the reviews on them and when i hooked them up to my harmon kardon 3480 i was blown away by their ability to handle all ranges of volume with no distortion .the first piece i played was the grand canyon suite c/d at very loud volume and the speakers pushed out crystal clear sound. im in love

The MF650H speakers are amazing! It looks at first, as if my purchase would be a disappointment, but you know what they say about looks.

They push lovely warm or punchy bass, and suit my needs for video gaming, music, and movies.

They don't take up much space, and sound good at any volume. A wonderful pair of tower speakers.

Great buy for the money........2007-03-12

Went to high end stereo store listened to 2200.00 French made speakers. The 650's sound close to these, what do you think I bought? I have been playing music for many years, My 20 year old Advent Legacys' finally bit the bullit. If you are concerned about how you spend your hard earned money do not hesitate to buy the Sony. I heard JBL, Joma, Boston A.,Klipsch,Bose etc., granted these speakers all sound good but for the money no way. The Sony is a great bang for your buck. Go out and listen to the various brands and make your choice.

Ok, I'll say more.

If you buy these speakers, follow these steps:

1. Get them home.
2. Unpack them carefully.
3. Connect them to your receiver with decent quality speaker cable (not the stuff that comes with them).
4. Play your favorite track & enjoy.

You will be greeted with crisp highs, full mids & smooth, deep bass that seems like it shouldn't be coming from 6.5" woofers. If at first you find the sound a bit bright, let them burn in for a few hours. All new speakers benefit from various lengths of break-in time. I find these sound better every time I play them.

If you like to tinker (like some of us), you will need to look past the fact that they don't employ a real crossover, and that the front & rear walls are made of particle board (the sides are MDF). Would they sound better if these things were different? Probably a little, but they would also be WAY more expensive.

One thing I would recommend to those comfortable with taking them apart - replace the internal wires with better cable...it makes a big difference.

Bottom Line - at $200 I would give these 4 stars. I paid $120 for the pair. That deserves 5 stars.

Elegance in Sound.......2006-10-26

I was a little skeptical of these speakers being able to create dynamic sound for their reasonable price. When I installed these I was blown away. They bring out the mid and low range with no flaws. These speakers were made to be played loud. For anyone who is intrested in investing a reasonable amount of money on great speakers this is the way to go.
