Since Pioneer has championed the cause of multidisc "combi" players since the species was born, we had high expectations for the DV-C302D.
With this player, you can program (or reprogram) the machine to play specific tracks or DVDs while the show is already in progress; just open the motorized drawer to add one or two titles. All the while, the third disc (out of sight) continues to play. Pioneer's automatic changeover cycles through from one disc's end to the start of the next in an impressive nine seconds.
We found no compromises in picture quality or sound performance, which is reassuring given the fact that multidisc players are more expensive than their single-disc cousins. Audio performance is typical of Pioneer: it's well balanced, with fine 24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters feeding the stereo output jacks. To test the DV-C302D's sonic range, we played an Arnold Schwarzenegger action film. We were blown away by the clarity of the sound--in one spot, the explosions nearly broke through our TV screen!
For improved image quality, we strongly recommend that you utilize this player's cinema mode, which darkens colors to improve contrast; and be sure to use the player's S-video or interlaced component-video outputs if your display is equipped to accept them.
The DV-C302D incorporates a built-in Dolby Digital decoder, so you can tap into a set of six outputs and feed the signals directly to an amplifier. Or if you prefer, feed the digital bit stream out of the player via optical or coaxial connections and into a Dolby Digital or DTS-decoding receiver of your choice.
We tested the DV-C302D's nonstop party entertainment ability with a lively Afro-pop music concert DVD and it offered excellent Dolby Digital surround sound imaging and detail. We relocated the troupe's polyrhythmic percussionists and tribal chanters to the rear channels, which helped suck us into the performance. The player spread the pleasure around our six-speaker system with strength and equanimity. Likewise, high-grade audio CDs of acoustic jazz, electric blues, and classical music were well-tempered and musically revealing.
The DV-C302D incorporates an intriguing blue light on the faceplate that blinks only when a DVD is spinning, but we had mixed feelings about the infrared remote control. The buttons are logically laid out, but in many instances they're small and cramped together. We missed not having a next disc button on the remote. Oddly, there is a next disc button on the player itself, along with individual disc call buttons that light selectively to indicate which of three trays are engaged for play. The front panel also includes a very useful row of buttons (numbered 1 to 10) for instantly summoning up individual tracks or chapters.
The DV-C302D delivers just one fast scan speed (in forward and reverse) that races along at a merry clip but may be a bit too fast when you're searching for a particular segment. The slow-motion function has variable speeds in the forward direction (1/2 to 1/16 normal speed) that result in grainy images.
For home-theater fanatics, the DV-C302D allows you to preset custom playback parameters for up to 15 DVDs and trigger an auto return to the last-played position with up to five titles.
All in all, the DV-C302D is an attractive machine that lives up to our expectations from Pioneer as a leader in multidisc players.

I did a lot of research on DVD players before I bought this unit, being in a wheelchair I wanted a multi-disc player so I didn't have to get out of my recliner everytime I had to change a disc. I read some bad things about multi-disc players though and I really was tempted to buy a 5 disc player, but this one seemed to be the very best having the best mixture of both quality and durability. I must say this has been one great DVD player, I've had it for more than 6 years now and it still works as great as it did the day I got it. It has some of the minor flaws others have stated such as occassional popping between scenes, noisy disc changer, etc. but all-in-all this has been a great unit. It plays everything you can throw at it too. I cannot understand some of the problems others are stating regarding disc playback, but they must either have extremely scratched discs, faulty discs, or just don't bother to clean or fix them when needed. I occassionally get the urge to look for something new but I just cannot find any excuse to buy another one. I've used the S-video out and Optical audio since I purchased this player and let me say the picture quality and sound are both fantastic. I've had this hooked up to a medium range Sherwood AV receiver since I got this and its performance has been just great despite the Sherwood's not being a high-end receiver (but was the best before you move up to the New Castles). One of my channels blew and so now I have a THX certified Pioneer Elite VSX 24TX (see reviews on this web site) on the way. I just can't wait until I hear what THX and DTS will sound like hooked up to this thing!! If you find one of these in good shape get it!!

All around great player, a crowd pleaser that may last a very long time.

This was the first and(aside from a playstation 2) the only DVD player I have purchesed so I can not make any comperisons to other DVD player systems, but I can say that this is a very good quality DVD player system that I highly suggest you buy, unless what your looking for is a DVD player with the compasity to hold more than just three disks.
I made one mistake after bought this DVD player and that was trying to hook this up to a T.V. a little over ten years old. If you have a T.V. about that old don't try to hook this DVD player up to it, because the sound won't work right.
A Disappointing End.......2001-08-09
Pioneer has outdone itself in the audio arena, as this unit flawlessly plays CD and CD-R discs (even with blemishes) better than any CD or laserdisc player I've owned. Frankly, the 3-disk tray has only been used for music since I made the purchase 10 months ago. Unfortunately, the DVD player's abilities do not rate as highly with regard to video. First is the loud, obnoxious POP! and black screen that occurs during layer switching on the DVD. Second, rented DVD's have never played "clean" from start to finish, often being interrupted with what looks like old-fashioned vertical hold problems. At first I thought this was typical, but friends do not have the same problems. Even on newly purchased DVD's the player can produce a loud POP! and skip a few frames when a new chapter switches in. Outstanding features, but a disappointing end to a promising, diverse player.
One[heck of a] piece of hardware.......2000-11-07
Forget your CD player! This DVD machine is the ticket! I have the DVD player 3 disc with karaoke option. What a great tool to add to any home theatre system. I sold my stereo on ... and replaced it with this unit. Crystal clear pictures, excellent sound quality, easy to use remote and a handsome setup. Very productive, extremely easy to use and a great price. You won't be disappointed with this one! Buy it now!

Nowadays, more and more computer companies are producing computers with the video editing and production functions. Sony, Dell, Compaq and iMac AVs are examples of these machines that come with video editing components and a CD burner for you to burn your own movie, or, Video CD on a CD. However, unlike people in China or Japan, where video cd players are more popular than DVD players, people in the US will soon find that their home DVD players are not able to play video CDs. Some of the units will be able to play Video CDs encoded using the version 1 standards, but not able to play VCD version 2 or 3 standards. Other DVD units simply do not accept Video CDs recorded on a CD-R. This Pioneer is one of the Pioneer DVD families that fully accept a "home-made" video cd. This makes sharing your vocation CD with your grandma's family on her big screen TV and home theater possible. Another beautiful function of this unit is that you may stop at anytime while you're watching a movie. When you come back, it will start right from where you stopped. Most DVD units require that you either use fast forward or scene selection to jump to where you left, which requires more steps on your remote.

Can't complain.......2006-05-29
I got the base unit for about $30 when it was on sale at FRY'S + 2 more handsets for $10 each. I had no problem at all registering hand sets with the base at all. It work right away at a first try. I was looking for 5.8GHz unit as I was trying to avoid interference with my wireless network at home. Got the phones for about 7 months now and all units work well and I can even go out of the house to the mailbox and not loose reception.
Inferior Product Support.......2005-11-26
At Fry's Electronics I bought the GH5850 phone and 3 GH58 additional satellite handsets to wirelessly tether off it. I wound up at Amazon hoping I would find some clue as to how to get the satellite handsets to register with the base phone. I followed the procedure in the handbooks, but the satellite phones didn't recognize the base phone. There was nothing relevant in the troubleshooting section of the handbook. When I went to SWB's website, the *.pdf version of the handbook was "temporarily" unavailable. When I called there product support line, I found that they were not open according to the hours listed in the handbook. I will have to wait 2 days to talk to anyone. I have never found a phone of this type as inexpensively priced. Perhaps I am getting what I paid for?!?!

For the not so businessey men - this notebook's for you!.......2004-07-13
Owning the local Circuit City at Columbus. Ohio, I have had a hands-on experience with a lot of laptops, and this one was another above average performer.
To begin with, IBM has packed in a powerful PC into this tiny baby. Looks, of course, are not our main issue, but they'll satisfy most of us. The Intel Celeron processor is the slight drawback faced by this product; and Averatec model that costs 799 bucks gives you and AMD Apthlon XP processor which is WAY better...
A 20GB harddisk and the 128 MB RAM is also average. But still, I'd go hands'down for the Averatec 3150HD, which is this IBM's competitor. I happen to own the 3150HD myself. Don't check the product's page for a review there; I'll give it to you in a single word - EXCELLENT!
So if this is jus' for a student who is tech savvy, this IBM ought to tidy up the job. But for the office going adult or cyber junkie college mate, Avaratec will find you in a happier place whith the 3150HD.
