4 out of 5 stars very cool camera.......2001-09-10

This is a very, very fun camera, it takes really cute pictures and looks great also. The pictures are surprisingly good concidering they are only a little bit larger than a stamp. The only complaint I have is that the camera takes a picture of more than what you see through the veiw finder, it takes a little getting used to.

Amazon.com Review

Polaroid's i-zone pocket cameras produce tiny, high-quality Polaroid pictures about the size of a frame of 35mm film (or your average postage stamp). The i-zones use either sticky or nonsticky instant film, so you can put your pictures in a frame or stick them onto your notebook or CD player. While the cameras all have the same funky oblong plastic design, they are available in a variety of interesting color schemes. The silver edition is a solid silvery gray color, while Phat Blue and Fireball Red are neon-like translucent monotones, and most others are two-tone, like the Jade version, which has an aqua green front and bluish back.

Each i-zone set comes complete with camera, instant pocket film (six shots), and two AA alkaline batteries--everything you need to start making pictures. We recommend buying extra film right away, especially if the camera is a gift, because those first six shots tend to go pretty fast. Loading the camera is as easy as dropping the film cartridge into the back of the camera and closing it back up. The trickiest part is remembering to pull the film tab out in one fluid motion, without stopping--exactly like most other Polaroids. When you expose a shot and pull out the film, you get something that looks like a Band-Aid, with an image in the middle and extra paper on both ends. Just clip the extra paper off with a pair of scissors and you have your final product. Be careful not to cut into the actual photo, as you don't want to give the caustic paste inside a chance to seep out and get on your fingers.

There are three exposure settings on the i-zone--indoors (with flash), outdoor/sunny, and outdoor/cloudy. Overall, the camera is probably best for subjects within 2 to 8 feet, although we took pictures of downtown buildings that turned out pretty well. The outdoor/sunny setting requires bright sun directly on the subject for a good exposure. Even if it isn't cloudy, try using the outdoor/cloudy setting if the subject is in shadow or if it is early or late in the day when the sunlight isn't at full strength. The flash seems to work best from about 4 to 5 feet away.

The best part is figuring out what to do with the mini photos once you've created them. The options seem to be limitless, from decorating cell phones to using them as key chains, putting them in mini frames, or making refrigerator magnets. These cameras are affordable, simple to use, and a lot of fun. --Walt Opie

Amazon.com Product Description

Polaroid's new I-Zone instant pocket camera is the latest "go- everywhere, must-have item," which comes in phat blue and will let you express yourself. The camera kit includes Polaroid's latest format of instant camera, six exposures of sticky film, and batteries. It produces postage-stamp-sized photographs, available with either a sticky or nonsticky backing, and offers a selectable built-in flash that automatically shuts off after each shot to conserve batteries. The picture quality is one of Polaroid's best, producing vivid colors and surprisingly excellent detail for such a small image. Loading the Polaroid I-Zone is simple, and using it is even simpler. There is no need to focus, the built-in flash fires automatically, and the camera is small enough to slip into a purse or the small pocket on a backpack. The pocket camera is not just about taking pictures--it's also about what you decide to do with them.

5 out of 5 stars Smile..........2002-02-17

This small camera is ideal for young children to adults. It provides the user with instant pictures. Film for the camera can be purchased with a sticky or nonsticky backing and is easily intalled into the camera. The mediocre flash adds some functionality to the fun camera. The flashy colors and design add a blast of "ah-ha" to the cameras overall appearence. Althought the film is moderately expensive in relation to regular film, the addition of the "neat effect" balance the two. With a relatively low retail price, you will be investing in a camera and a great time!

5 out of 5 stars Fun camera!.......2001-04-11

I've had my i-zone camera since they first came out, and I constantly use it (when I can afford the film, that is!). I've bought a few more for friends as gifts, and everyone seems to enjoy them. The i-zone camera is a fun thing to take small pictures with, and the sticky film is awesome!

1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk........2001-02-17

Picture quality is consistently extremely poor. Very small image. Film is over priced. Camera breaks extremely easily. Images do not scan well even on a high quality scanner. I think the product is mostly just a gimick and a fad which I hope disappears quickly. I recieved one for free as a prize in a contest at a web site. Tried it out, and I think it's completely useless. I would not even purchase as a gift for someone. Reguardless as to how much they want it except to satisfy curiosity. It will most likely end up either collecting dust or being sold at garage sales for a penny. However, if it goes out of production quickly enough maybe they'll become collectables.

4 out of 5 stars Sort of Cheap Fun.......2001-01-31

I often buy this as a gift, especially for the 8-12 year old group. It's easy to use and the pictures aren't bad - they're about 1 X 1 1/2 inches and have the same fuzzy flattering quality of the regular size Polaroids. The film isn't cheap, though, and after the kids run through the measly 5 picture roll that's included, Mom and Dad or older kids with allowances get to shell out close to [price] for another 3-roll pack (12 pictures each). But it is fun and kids of all ages love it.

5 out of 5 stars Polaroid I Zone Camera.......2001-01-23

I love my I Zone camera, but what I don't like about it is that the film isn't very good. What I mean is, it's sharp and everything, but the sticky stuff on the back isn't very durable. Also, it's about 50 cents a shot. I'm 12 years old, so that's a bit expensive for me. Another thing is, I can only find sticky film. The closest place to my house I could find non sticky film was 5 miles away (and I can't even drive yet) But that's not something to judge the camera by.) I would recomend the camera to anyone who's under 15.

3 out of 5 stars Polaroid I-Zone Camara.......2001-08-28

This camara was really fun to use and I had fun with it for a while. But unless you are living in a college dorm or somewhere else where you can use the pictures to do all the great stuff on the commercials,(Would anyone really do that anyway?)it is really no use. My camara also ran out of batteries very often, so all the pictures I took indoors, when the flash did not work, were ruined (plus the film is definetly not cheap). Don't get me wrong the camara is fun to use, but you need the right time to use it, or else you will end up with a pile of stickers sitting on the desk in your room, like me.

Shipper was great to work with and quickly refunded my money, but you can't buy film for this anywhere anymore, as it is not being made any longer!

5 out of 5 stars Love it..........2002-07-09

I bought this camera to take pics of my wedding guests for my guest book....I love it! The film is a little pricey, but that's the cost on instant gratification I suppose. The sticky stuff is nice, not sticky enough to ruin anything, but will stay on a computer monitor, magnet, or in a book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera.......2002-03-11

I just received my camera today, and I already love it. I have taken four pictures, and have tried not to take anymore, because I want my film to last. The pictures turned out remarkably good for such a small camera. Pretty much, this camera is all around adequate, except for a few flaws. The first flaw is that the instruction booklet is very confusing, because it only uses pictures, and there is a release button on the side of the camera, and if anything hits it, it will open up exposing the film. This is hardly a problem; you just have to be careful with it. I recommend this camera to anyone, including people who aren't even interested in photography.

4 out of 5 stars Really great camera, but the film is kinda pricy.......2001-11-28

This is a really durable camera. i've dropped it about a billion times, and it still works as well as ever! The focus isn't all that great, and the pix aren't SUPER high quality, but considering the price... but the pix are absolutely adorable. the size is so cute. i definitely recommend this camera!

Hey, i just got the I-Zone camera in the mail and what a surprise i got! The "kit" itself, comes with a 6 pack of Sticky Film (which is expensive i might add), and the camera. The instructions to put thee film in is at the bottom of the camera and in the booklet you recieve with the camera. Overall the picture quality is excellent for such a small camera! I use it in school, its a good way to give instant photos to your friends, and to take pictures if your leaving on a trip. I gave it 4 stars not 5 because the price for the film-its a bit expensive, but its worth it in the end! Buy It!! You'll Enjoy It~! :o)

5 out of 5 stars Fast Service.......2004-10-08

The customers service and quality of service was excellent. I received the order the same day that it was esimated to be shipped. Previous to my order, I read consumer reports that provided positive reviews about the hardware and negative reports about the software that came with it. I had purchased new software and had no problems.

5 out of 5 stars TDK Supports Their Products.......2004-04-28

I bought the TDK DVD drive and it was not able to recognize DVD+RW media after writing to the media one time. (DVD+R media worked fine.) This problem had existed since I purchased the drive. I "chatted" with tech support and they agreed that it was a hardware problem with the drive. When I called tech support for an RMA number, they informed me that I was past the warranty period (by a couple of months). I requested they cover the repair anyway as a gesture of goodwill, since the drive had never worked properly. THEY AGREED TO REPAIR THE DRIVE! Now that is what I call great support. Had the drive failed after the warranty period expired, it would not be right for anyone to expect TDK to repair the product. As it is, I feel that TDK has shown incredible integrity and gone above and beyond the call of duty. Hat's off to TDK!

The drive is a solid performer and installs easily. I suggest using Nero with this drive rather than the bundled software.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Dvd burner, great if you want nothing but COASTERS!.......2004-02-29

This dvd burner is horrible, I had nothing but problems with it. I bought this thinking it was the best but it fell very short of my expectations after the second burn. Also the software is garbage and you are better off using Dvd shrink (which is free software) and Nero to burn .

Most of the problems being with dvd-r disks. I used the two free dvd+r disk fine but it was downhill after that. I bought a stack of 10 tdk dvd-r (dvd-r runs on all of the dvd players in our house and dvd+r doesn't), it encoded just fine, started to burn for a few minutes and then the burner would freeze up and a error message would pop up on the screen. After a few more coasters, I called TDK and they tried to say it was my computers fault, I informed then my computer was brand new and then they said it was the burner driver that needed to be updated. I updated the driver on their website, yet this still did not fix the problem, I had an even larger stack of coasters by then and said forget it, I will be broke with no movies to speak for it before I get this thing working. I returned it and bought the external 8x Plextor px-708uf and have been happy ever since, and have burned over 50 copies of my movies with no coasters! If you want a burner that gives you nothing but hassle, headaches and a stack of coasters for your drinks by all means waster your money on this. If you want a great dvd burner take a closer look at the Plextor 8x.

4 out of 5 stars Lost a star for bad software.......2003-11-19

This DVD burner comes with Roxio's Easy CD and DVD Creator software. While the software is very easy to follow, the DVDs I produced were choppy and, most importantly, HAD NO SOUND. I checked with Roxio and indeed they have a fix for the sound problem, but it doesn't work (for me at least). While at the Roxio site I saw many, many complaints about this software.

The burner itself has functioned great and set up easily. I think once I find a usable software program to work with it I'll be very happy with the product.

5 out of 5 stars If you've been waiting to buy...you can stop.......2003-10-05

I've been watching the price of external DVD writers for over a year. This particular item has dropped from over $400 to a little more than $200 (with a current $30 TDK rebate and careful comparison shopping --not neccesarily via Amazon) during that time. It has many positive points to recommend it, and only a few minor issues.
Strenghts:
(1) The external option is a blessing if you are not comfortable with --or simply don't want to spend the time-- messing around inside your computer. Even though my currrent desktop is homebuilt and I'm fine with working inside the case, both of my IDE controller "master" settings are already dedicated (one to the hard drive, one to an existing CD-RW. The latter is capability I'll want to retain for a while longer).
(2) The presence of both USB 2.0 and FireWire interfaces adds obvious flexibility to this unit. Since the data transfer rates are nearly the same, this is a matter of personal preference (unless you only have one type available on your computer, of course).
(3) The ability to write in both DVD+RW and DVD-RW formats spares consumers any painful -and possibly regretable-- "vhs vs. beta" type decisions as this market segment matures.
(4) This unit shipped with a surprisingly good printed users manual for both hardware and software operation.
(5) Worked great first time out of the box. Extensive data backups of up to 4.7 GB on a single DVD....how cool is that!
Nitpicks:
(1) The CD drawer operation is a little on the noisy side.
(2) Personal preference issue: The included burning software is Roxio's EZ CD Creator. I prefer Ahead Software's Nero package based on a couple years of experience with both. Your mileage and user experience may vary, of course.
