The Windows- and Mac-compatible Western Digital Passport is designed for toughness, offering maximum protection from data loss with a rugged, protective case and shock-tolerant 2.5-inch hard drive. The elegant, soft-touch case looks great, but it's also designed to allow the drive to run cool and quiet. The design also minimizes power consumption, prolonging laptop battery life (an optional power adapter is available for the few computers that limit bus power). On top of all that, the Passport is safety tested. In fact, it's one of the few external drives with certification to meet all applicable safety requirements.

Installation of the Passport is a snap because you don't really "install" this drive, you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in. The drive is powered by the USB bus, so there's no separate power supply needed. Meanwhile, WD Sync synchronization and encryption software lets you save your critical data, and take it with you. Plug your drive into any PC, edit files, read e-mail, and view photos. Then sync all of your changes back to your home or office computer. Note that this software is only offered for Windows 2000/XP, though.

I have had this for over a year without any problems whatsoever. It fits conveniently into my bag and has saved me a million headaches going from work, to school, to home computers. I always have what I need.

No more backing up files onto endless CDs! One portable little device contains a complete backup of all my important documents. I later bought a second one so that I have an off-site backup, too. Love the small size, large capacity, and simplicity!

Great hard drive with a super short USB cable!.......2007-04-29

The actual drive is great - small and pretty, basically everything you'd want in a portable external.

The USB cable, however, is unusually short (about 7.5 inches). It doesn't reach my USB ports while resting on a nearby flat surface, like the top of the case. I didn't see the cable length anywhere on the packaging, either. I think WD assumed every case has front ports at the bottom of the front panel with a flat surface in front of the computer on which to rest the drive. Maybe I'm just spoiled after using a FireLite for 3 years with a much, much longer cable?

I give it 3 stars for requiring me to buy a new USB cable.

Total waste of money.......2007-03-28

Plugged the drive into my laptop USB port and it took about 10 mins before the drive started beeping and just wouldn't respond. Called up customer service and they said that the drive was dead and I would have to send it back! I guess it was just plain bad luck but it justifies the 1 star rating. Bought a SimpleTech 80GB drive instead. Found that it was smaller, lighter and even though it has taken quite a beating already, it works flawlessly. I'd recommend this one instead.

Mouse Trouble.......2004-07-17

This KVM works as expected except for two problems. Sometimes the mouse will stop working for me as if I was to unplug and the replug the mouse from the machine. I guess there is a slight glitch in the electrical connection when the KVM switches between computers. It's really annoying because when this happens you must reboot the computer to get the mouse functionality back. Also, this KVM beeps a couple of times when you switch between computers. I have not been able to turn this feature off and I would rather just have a silent KVM switch. But, it isn't a complete piece of crap. Most of the time it does it's job ok.

Also note that the KVM does not come with a power supply. Theoretically it can draw all of it's power from the PS/2 keyboard connection of the computers. But, in practice I've found that not all computers are able to deliver enough power. You may have to buy a 5V-9V DC power adapter of your own, I did.

Only $... bucks.......2002-01-10

First, I have read other reviews about this machine breaking and people becoming very mad about it....hello? it is $...!!!! For $... I have used the thing about 10 times already and consider it VERY useful. Yes it is plastic....but now a days what isn't? Once you get the hang of it...2nd time around, it is VERY simple. The results are more sturdy than regular lamination. If you are patient and don't make high volume laminations this is a great product. Again I am having trouoble finding replacement pouches and $... on amizon is a lot more that the discount chains sell it for.

Not nearly that bad!.......2001-03-25

This product MUST be given some credit! Considering the quality of Xerox printers, ink, and especially their customer service, not to mention the affordabilty of it all (c'mon people, it's not like these cartridges cost hundreds of dollars!), I am rather pleased. I don't understand the fuss when we purchased our printers, admittedly "cheap," and are now complaining about ordering the ink for them. I would suggest a few things for all those folks who are grossly displeased with a product I have been quite content with. First, contact the store where you purchased the printer and inquire about getting ink from there. Then when you order (or when you get it online) get enough to hold you over for long enough so you aren't delayed in any of your printing projects. It is always an option to contact Xerox directly, which I have done, and have been VERY satisfied.

Also, I highly recommend that you cut down on how much ink your printer uses at one time. Believe it or not, reducing your print quality to "draft copy" makes very little difference with a newer Xerox ink cartridge. I find the print quality under any circumstance to be good. I have been and expect to continue to be a satisfied Xerox customer, despite some minor "inconveniences" encountered along the way. In comparison to some other ink cartridges that are readily available in every store, I would rather save BIG with a product that I enjoy and a company with a great reputation and customer service to match.

I realize that printers are cheap and that the manufacturers make their profit on the sell of the ink cartridges, but this is terrible. These cartridges are too high priced and very inconvenient. I can't find them on the shelves at the stores, so they have to be ordered. I'm always out of Black Ink.

I bought a cheap Xerox printer, the Docuprint C8, that uses this small black ink cartridge. I am constantly running out of ink. Avoid the printer that uses this cartridge unless you enjoy shopping for office supplies.
